  • 최근에 서로 다른 생장추세를 나타내고 있는 남(南)애리조나산(産) 침엽수 4수종(樹種)(Pseudotsuga menziesii, Pinus ponderosa, Pinus strobiformis, Abies concolor)의 연륜폭 연대기(年代記)로 부터 반응함수를 구하기 위하여, 표준화 방법을 면밀히 검토하였으며 시계열모델에 의한 사전(事前) 여과화(濾過化)(prewhitening)로 전생장량(前生長量)을 배제하는 것이 효과적인 것인지도 조사하였다. 전통적으로 사용되던 지수(指數) 또는 질선(直線)방정식에 의한 표준화가 대부분 성공적으로 적용되었으나 최근생장이 급격히 감소된 경우는 스플라인함수를 이용하는 것이 효과적이었다. 계절(季節)모델이 적용된 Pinus ponderosa의 경우를 제외하곤 사전여과화 전후(前後)의 반응함수간(間)에 뚜렷한 차이를 발견할 수 없었다.

  • In this paper we propose new nonparametric estimators of the survival function using spline function under the progressively random censoring scheme. This sampling scheme is applied in many practical situations such as clinical trials or the life testing problems. We also investigate the behaviors for some estimators in the proposed class and the performance of progressively random censoring scheme through the numerical examples and Monte Carlo simulation.

  • This paper presents a more stable method of multiresolution editing for a triangular mesh. The basic idea of our paper is to embed an editing area of a mesh onto a 2D region and to produce 3D surfaces which interpolate the editing-information. In this paper, we adopt the extended convex combination approach based on the shape-preserving parameterization for the embedding, which guarantees no self-intersection on the 2D embedded mesh. That is, the result of the embedding is stable. Moreover, we adopt the multi-level B-spline approach to generate the surface containing all of 3D editing-information, which can make us control the editing area in several levels. Hence, this method supports interactive editing and thus can produce intuitive editing results.

  • One of the most frequently used spline scheme in CAD and graphics package is Bezier curve. Although simple and easy to implement, it supports diverse kinds of curves and surfaces. In view of the design convenience, the main advantage of the Bezier curves is that they observe user-specified slope conditions at both endpoints while maintaining smoothness. This paper expands the advantage by deriving equations for generalized Bezier curves, and applying the equation to observe additional slope condition at midpoint. This is possible by decomposing and analyzing the user-specified midpoint slope, and reflecting the result back into the Bezier basis matrix in parametric form. Consequently, users can control the curve shapes not only by the endpoint slope handles but also at the midpoint slope handle, which helps them to be able to apply more accurate control over the conventional Bezier curve shapes.

The Study on Relation between Six Sigma Implemented Period and Financial Performance: Using Smoothing Spline Function (식스 시그마 도입기간이 기업의 재무적 성과에 미치는 영향 연구: 평활 스플라인 함수를 이용하여)

  • Purpose: In this paper, we investigate whether the endeavors for Six Sigma quality management by a firm have positive effects on its financial performance and the length of Six Sigma implemented period affects its financial status. We find a relationship between Six Sigma implemented period and several financial performance index using a smoothing spline function. Methods: A smoothing spline function is used in order to analyze the relationship between efforts for quality management and financial performance. Specifically, the return on assets, return on equity, sales cost and business fee are investigated as dependent variables and the efforts for quality management as independent variable. Results: As a result of the analysis, the indication is that companies that put effects into the Six Sigma quality management have a positive result in its financial status. In detail, the efforts for Six Sigma quality management have positive effects on total asset turnover ratio and Six Sigma implemented period on net income to net sales ratio. Additionally, companies with longer (shorter) period of Six Sigma program have more (less) improvement in its financial status. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the company's efforts for quality management positively influence financial performance.

Human Limbs Modeling from 3D Scan Data (3차원 스캔 데이터로부터의 인체 팔, 다리 형상 복원)

  • This paper presents a new approach for modeling human limbs shape from 3D scan data. Based on the cylindrical structure of limbs, the overall shape is approximated with a set of ellipsoids through ellipsoid fitting and interpolation of fit-ellipsoids. Then, the smooth domain surface representing the coarse shape is generated as the envelope surface of ellipsoidal sweep, and the fine details are reconstructed by constructing parametric displacement function on the domain surface. For fast calculation, the envelope surface is approximated with ellipse sweep surface, and points on the reconstructed surface are mapped onto the corresponding ellipsoid. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach for skeleton-driven body deformation.

  • This paper proposes the scattered data interpolation as an efficient method that is designed for free-form surface. Data interpolation is an essential method of designing for various objects. For the generating free-form surface of complexity construction, the existing method had problems to represent flat area and sharp corner edge, in presenting objects with computing the weight of control points. For solving this problem, we proposes the generating method of new approximation surfaces, using scattered data interpolation. This method obtains B-Spline basis function which calculates main curvature, having optimized value in variable area, on given control points and changed objects, and then computes the changing rate the approximating data, using it's value. We also present this method that generates smoother free-form surface, using the scattered data interpolation with minimum weight.

  • This paper is concerned with the generation of an optimal forward hull form by a nonlinear programming method. A Rankine source panel method based on the inviscid and potential flow approximation is employed to calculate the wave-making resistance and SQP method is also used for the optimization. The hull form is represented by a spline function. The forward hull form of a minimum wave resistance with the given design constraints is generated. In addition, the forward hull form of a minimum total resistance by considering the frictional resistance together with an empirical form factor is produced and compared with the former result.

Object Contour Tracking Using an Improved Snake Algorithm (개선된 스네이크 알고리즘을 이용한 객체 윤곽 추적)

  • The snake algorithm is widely adopted to track objects by extracting the active contour of the object from background. However, it fails to track the target converging to the background if there exists background whose gradient is greater than that of the pixels on the contour. Also, the contour may shrink when the target moves fast and the snake algorithm misses the boundary of the object in its searching window. To alleviate these problems, we propose an improved algorithm that can track object contour more robustly. Firstly, we propose two external energy functions, the edge energy and the contrast energy. One is designed to give more weight to the gradient on the boundary and the other to reflect the contrast difference between the object and background. Secondly, by computing the motion vector of the contour from the difference of the two consecutive frames, we can move the snake pointers of the previous frame near the region where the object boundary is probable at the current frame. Computer experiments show that the proposed method is more robust to the complicated background than the previously known methods and can track the object with fast movement.

  • 능동 시각 시스템은 카메라 시선 방향을 조정할 수 있는 장치로, 기존의 고정식 스테레오 카메라가 가질 수 없는 여러 가지 장점으로 인해 최근 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 능동 시각 시스템을 이용하여 움직이는 물체를 추적하는 경우, 목표 위치가 제어 주기마다 바뀌게 되는데 이 때 시스템의 현재 속도를 고려하지 않는다면, 급격한 속도의 변화로 인해 저크(jerk)가 크게 발생하게 된다. 저크는 물체 추적 성능에도 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 전원단의 잡음 발생을 유발시켜 제어기의 동작을 방해하며, 시스템에 기계적인 손상을 주기도 한다. 이러한 문제점을 해소하기 위해 기존의 방법들은 스플라인이나 고차 다항식의 계산 방법을 사용하였으나 계산량의 복잡도로 인해 다축 제어가 필요한 능동 시각 시스템에서 구현하기가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 삼각 함수를 이용한 종(bell) 모양의 속도 프로파일을 이용해서 저크 탄생을 억제할 수 있는 제어기 구조를 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 간단한 계산량으로 저가의 마이크로프로세서에서도 실시간으로 동작이 가능하며 임의의 시점에 임의의 속도로 움직이고 있는 시스템에 저크를 최소화할 수 있는 지령 속도를 만들어 낼 수 있다. 제안된 방법은 시뮬레이션과 실제 시스템에 적용하여 그 유용성을 검증하였다.
