Measurements of Thermal Expansion Coefficients in GRP Pipe (GRP 복합관의 열팽창계수 측정)

  • This study was focused on the measurement of thermal expansion coefficients for GRP pipe through strain gage circuits. First of all, thermal expansion coefficients of aluminum beam were measured to examine the validity of the suggested method by using various types of strain gage circuits. Thermal expansion coefficients of GRP pipes along axial and hoop directions were measured to investigate the effect of the location of strain gages, number of repeated measurements, and strain gage types with different thermal expansion coefficients on the thermal strains and the repeatability of measured results. According to the results, thermal expansion coefficients of GRP pipes along hoop direction were lower than those along axial direction due to the constraint effect of reinforced glass fibers on thermal strains along hoop direction. As measurements were repeated, thermal expansion coefficients of GRP pipes were slightly increased, but the degree of increase became smaller. Finally, the same thermal expansion coefficients were obtained irrespective of different types of strain gages with different thermal expansion coefficients if thermal strains of strain gages were compensated by using reference compensation specimen.

  • In heavy industries forces which are exceeding the range of available force standard machines have to be measured. Force measuring system using build-up procedure can be applied to measure large forces efficiently. In this study strain gage type force sensors are designed and fabricated, and the build-up force measuring system with 4.5 MN capacity using the developed force sensors is 0.03% or less over the range of 600 kN .approx. 1.5 MN and the force measuring system is less than 0.06% or less over the range of 500 kN .approx. 4.5 MN.

  • The study was performed on the development of system in which the bead width can be controlled. In order to control the bead width, we designed the automatic seam tracking device by attaching the probe type strain gauge sensor, motor driving slide and encoder to check the moving distance, and interface card connected MCU(80Cl96KC) upside the speed controllable carriage. Seam tracking experiments were done by changing the bead width. We compared and analyzed the sampling data which were obtained by output voltage of strain gauge sensor and rotary encoder pulse every 50ms.

Effect of Fabric Sensor Type and Measurement Location on Respiratory Detection Performance (직물센서의 종류와 측정 위치가 호흡 신호 검출 성능에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the type and measurement location of a fabric strain gauge sensor on the detection performance for respiratory signals. We implemented two types of sensors to measure the respiratory signal and attached them to a band to detect the respiratory signal. Eight healthy males in their 20s were the subject of this study. They were asked to wear two respiratory bands in turns. While the subjects were measured for 30 seconds standing comfortably, the respiratory was given at 15 breaths per minute were synchronized, and then a 10-second break; subsequently, the entire measurement was repeated. Measurement locations were at the chest and abdomen. In addition, to verify the performance of respiratory measurement in the movement state, the subjects were asked to walk in place at a speed of 80 strides per minute(SPM), and the respiratory was measured using the same method mentioned earlier. Meanwhile, to acquire a reference signal, the SS5LB of BIOPAC Systems, Inc., was worn by the subjects simultaneously with the experimental sensor. The Kruskal-Wallis test and Bonferroni post hoc tests were performed using SPSS 24.0 to verify the difference in measurement performances among the group of eight combinations of sensor types, measurement locations, and movement states. In addition, the Wilcoxon test was conducted to examine whether there are differences according to sensor type, measurement location, and movement state. The results showed that the respiratory signal detection performance was the best when the respiratory was measured in the chest using the CNT-coated fabric sensor regardless of the movement state. Based on the results of this study, we will develop a chest belt-type wearable platform that can monitor the various vital signal in real time without disturbing the movements in an outdoor environment or in daily activities.

  • Static tests and low-cycle fatigue tests were conducted to analyze the characteristics of the bellows for LNG vessels according to the forming methods. The cycle life of bellows was tested based on the specified cyclic life, 80000 cycles, to analyze the difference in characteristics between pre-and post-test data by measuring the strain and stress of each convolution of formed bellows. The low-cycle fatigue test was conducted using a strain gauge that was attached to the convolution of bellows. Formed bellows were placed on the structural test device which was equipped with a hydraulic system and was capable of moving in the x-y direction. Data was measured and processed by a multi recorder. Through the static test and low-cycle fatigue tests results, the difference between the cycle life of bellows formed by mechanical methods and of those formed by hydraulic methods was investigated. Moreover, the cause of difference in cyclic life according to forming methods was performed.

Method of Walking Surface Identification Technique for Automatic Change of Walking Mode of Intelligent Bionic Leg (지능형 의족의 보행모드 자동변경을 위한 보행노면 판별 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a gait pattern recognition method for intelligent prosthesis that enables walking in various environments of femoral amputees. The proposed gait mode changing method is a single sensor based algorithm which can discriminate gait surface and gait phase using only strain gauges sensor, and it is designed to simplify the algorithm based on multiple sensors of existing intelligent prosthesis and to reduce cost of prosthesis system. For the recognition algorithm, we analyzed characteristics of the ground reaction force generated during gait of normal person and defined gait step segmentation and gait detection condition, A gait analyzer was constructed for the gait experiment in the environment similar to the femoral amputee. The validity of the paper was verified through the defined detection conditions and fabricated instruments. The accuracy of the algorithm based on the single sensor was 95%. Based on the proposed single sensor-based algorithm, it is considered that the intelligent prosthesis system can be made inexpensive, and the user can directly grasp the state of the walking surface and shift the walking mode. It is confirmed that it is possible to change the automatic walking mode to switch the walking mode that is suitable for the walking mode.
