Development of Data Acquisition System for Strain Gauge Sensor (스트레인게이지 센서용 데이터획득시스템의 개발)

  • This research suggested a development of a Data Acquisition System for strain gauge sensor which enables the usage of portable device in the various engineering field that includes, a strain indicator which is frequently used in civil and mechanical engineering, and a GUI function of data acquisition device. The developed system can record 16 channels of strain gauges at a time and its resolution is over 16 bits which can be used effectively in the actual field.

Analysis of Strain Gauge Data Onboard the IBRV ARAON during Icebreaking Voyage in the Antarctic Sea Ice (쇄빙연구선 ARAON호의 남극해 쇄빙운항 중 계측된 스트레인게이지 데이터 분석)

  • Estimation of correct ice load under various operating conditions is important during the design and the operation stages of an icebreaker. Normal operating conditions are expected from the official field ice trials and also from general ice transit action. In this paper ice load for the Korean icebreaking research vessel, ARAON, under normal operating condition, is discussed. Published ice load data from full-scale sea trials of six icebreakers were analysed to derive an empirical ice load prediction formula. The IBRV ARAON had sea ice trials during 2010 and 2012 summer season. Strain gauge signal were recorded during her icebreaking voyage and the measured strain data were converted to the equivalent hull stress values. The effect of ARAON's speed in ice and the hull stresses are investigated. By comparing the empirical formula and ice load calculation based von measured data, it is recommended to use the empirical ice load estimation formula for the initial design stage.

  • This paper focuses on the estimation of local ice loads exerted from ship-ice interaction processes. The Korean IBRV ARAON was used to perform field ice trials during her 2015 Arctic voyage. During ARAON's general ice transit, a total of 72 channels of data from both strain gauges on the inner hull plates and those installed on the transverse frames of the ARAON's bow section structures were analyzed to calculate the local ice loads. The local ice loads estimated from the analysis of the shear strain data measured on the side frames were compared to those from the hull plate pressures.

  • In airframe structural tests, a control system which has many control channels and a data acquisition system which has many data acquisition channels are used. The more it is used many channels in airframe structural test, the more hardware resources are added in test system. Before test load is applied in test article, test engineer must check test system and components. Therefore, many problems which be likely to happen to system can be minimized. The checking method of test system and components is calibration verification. In this paper, it is described that calibration verification concept and method in relation to airframe structural test controller components.(MTS Aero90 Multifunction Input Output Processor and 497.22 Dual DC Conditioner)

  • Static tests and low-cycle fatigue tests were conducted to analyze the characteristics of the bellows for LNG vessels according to the forming methods. The cycle life of bellows was tested based on the specified cyclic life, 80000 cycles, to analyze the difference in characteristics between pre-and post-test data by measuring the strain and stress of each convolution of formed bellows. The low-cycle fatigue test was conducted using a strain gauge that was attached to the convolution of bellows. Formed bellows were placed on the structural test device which was equipped with a hydraulic system and was capable of moving in the x-y direction. Data was measured and processed by a multi recorder. Through the static test and low-cycle fatigue tests results, the difference between the cycle life of bellows formed by mechanical methods and of those formed by hydraulic methods was investigated. Moreover, the cause of difference in cyclic life according to forming methods was performed.
