  • The aims of this study are to analyse how smartphone affects (1)self-control and (2)self-directed learning ability of middle-school students, and also affect (3)self-directed learning ability by mediation of self-control. For these aims, this study used Seoul Educational Longitudinal Study panel data which was conducted in 2015, and conducted multi-group comparisons using structural equation modeling analyses. In analysis of smartphone effects, the use of smartphone of students was divided into 'for entertainment' and 'for learning', and also their first time of smartphone use was considered(elementary vs. middle school). Results indicated that while 'smarphone use for entertainment' was related negatively with self-control and self-directed learning ability of students, 'smarphone use for learning' was related positively, regardless of when smartphone was first used. Also, while 'smarphone use for entertainment' was related negatively with self-directed learning ability by mediation of self-control, 'smarphone use for learning' was related positively.

  • The interactions between a professor and students are very important in humanities classes A professor could not exchange opinions with students especially in large-scale classes. We have developed a smart phone app. in order to overcome the lirnit of interaction between a professor and students in large-scale classes. The app we have developed in this paper have exploited smart phone's data processing and wireless communication ability. In this paper, we showed that smart phone could be an useful tool for increasing the education effect of large-scale classes.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze relationship between community participation and smartphone usage level. The study was conducted for 100 people aged 55 or older. We conduct a task-based questionnaire to evaluate smartphone usage level. The levels of smartphone use were reclassified as 0~3 points C level, 4~7 points B level, and 8 points or more A level based on task-based survey score. For data processing, SAS 9.4 was used. As a result, a total of 97 data were included in the result analysis, and 85 smartphone users(87.6%). There was a significant correlation between smartphone usage level and community participation(r=0.22). As a result of using ANOVA, the smartphone usage level and community participation scores showed a significant difference(p=0.04). This study confirmed that there is a difference in community participation by smartphone usage level. Most elderly people showed high smartphone education demand. It is considered necessary to develop educational programs and educational tools to improve educational satisfaction and smartphone usage.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of perceived father's rearing attitudes on the relationship between self-efficacy and smartphone addiction in adolescents. A survey was conducted using a convenient sample drawn from 570 students from eleven junior high school in Seoul. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program. The results show that 22.4% of students was in the risk of smatphone addiction. High risk of smartphone addiction group use smartphone longer for communication and had more trouble with their parents because of smartphone use. Smartphone addiction showed negative relationship with self-efficacy and affection-rational explanation of perceived father's rearing attitude but had positive relationship with inconsistency-intrusiveness of perceived father's rearing attitude. Furthermore, the result showed the moderating effects of perceived father's rearing attitude on the relationship between self-efficacy and smartphone addiction. Therefore, to prevent smartphone addiction in adolescent, we should try to increase self-efficacy in adolescent as well as to develop educational program to assist parent to understand their children.

  • This study aims to offer a wide range of practical implications for Smartphone addiction prevention by verifying the effect of mind health as a factor that is influenced by Smartphone addiction, and testing the relationships between Smartphone addiction and mind health with school life adaptation as a mediation effect. For this research, a survey was conducted of 250 elementary school students who use Smartphones. The relationships between Smartphone addiction, mind health and school life adaptation were set as the structural equation model, and they were verified by the mediation effect of school life adaptation. The results showed that school life adaptation turned out to be an entirely mediating variable on the relationship between mind health and Smartphone addiction. The statistical significance of the effect on school life adaptation was verified by the Sobel test. The mediation effect resulted in mind health reducing the occurrence of negative emotion of school life adaptation, and also reinforced decreased Smartphone use.
