  • By actively adopting technologies from the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the port industry is trending toward new types of ports, such as automated and smart ports. However, behind the development of these ports, there is an increasing risk of cyber security incidents and threats within ports and container terminals, including information leakage through cargo handling equipment and ransomware attacks leading to disruptions in terminal operations. Despite the necessity of research to enhance cyber security within ports, there is a lack of such studies in the domestic context. This study focuses on Busan Port, a representative port in South Korea that actively incorporates technology from the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in order to discover variables for improving cyber security in container terminals. The research results categorized factors for enhancing cyber security in Busan Port's container terminals into network construction and policy support, standardization of education and personnel training, and legal and regulatory factors. Subsequently, multiple regression analysis was conducted based on these factors, leading to the identification of detailed factors for securing and enhancing safety, reliability, performance, and satisfaction in Busan Port's container terminals. The significance of this study lies in providing direction for enhancing cyber security in Busan Port's container terminals and addressing the increasing incidents of cyber security attacks within ports and container terminals.

  • It can be replaced with a smart work service centering on tasks that do not require on-site work among container terminal tasks. Here, the cloud service is helpful for small and medium-sized stevedoring companies as it reduces the cost and time required for initial system construction, and allows you to pay usage fees as needed. This study introduces a case study on the development of web services that comply with industry standards so that advanced ICT can be used in connection with the terminal operation system.

  • The port industry has been actively adopting Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, leading to transformations in port infrastructure, such as automated and smart ports. While these changes have improved port efficiency, they have also increased the potential for Cyber Security incidents, including data leaks and disruptions in terminal operations due to ransomware attacks. Recognizing the need to prioritize Cyber Security measures, a study was conducted, focusing on Busan Port's rapidly automating container terminal in South Korea. The results of the Eisenhower Matrix analysis identified legal and regulatory factors as a top priority in the first quadrant, with educational systems, workforce development, network infrastructure, and policy support in the third quadrant. Subsequently, a Borich Needs Analysis revealed that the highest priority was given to legal improvements in security management systems, while the development of Cyber Security professionals ranked lowest. This study provides foundational research for enhancing Cyber Security in domestic container terminals and offers valuable insights into their future direction.

  • Recently, as the Windows system supports the Windows subsystem for Linux (WSL), various researchers have studied to apply a docker container on various systems such as server systems, workstation system and so on. However, in various existing researchers, there is a lack of performance-related indicators to apply the system to each operating system (linux system and windows system). In this paper, we compared a performance comparison and analysis of container-based host operating systems. We configured experimental environments of operating systems for microsoft windows systems and linux systems based on a docker container support. In experimental results, the containers of linux systems reduced the average data latency of dataset 1-6 by 3.9%, 62.16%, 1552.38%, 7.27%, 60.83%, and 1567.2%, compared to the containers on microsoft windows systems.

  • The mobile house of this article is provided with stand-alone power system that uses photovoltaic energy and enables sensing and environmental monitoring. Excess power generated is stored in lithium batteries, which enable smooth operation of the mobile house even in environment in which solar energy cannot be used. The house has been designed that its systems can be operated continuously by diesel power generation even when photovoltaic energy cannot be generated due to long rainy season or heavy snow. BMS (batter management system) has been constructed for photovoltaic and power management, and monitors the charge/discharge and usage amount of photovoltaic energy. Various sensing data are recorded and transmitted automatically, and the design allows for wireless monitoring by means of computer and smartphone app. The container house proposed in this study enables efficient energy management by performing optimal energy operation in remote areas, parks, event venues, and construction sites where there is no system power source.

  • As the 4th Industrial Revolution progresses, the shipping logistics sector is becoming smarter by utilizing various core technologies such as AI, IoT, and Bigdata. In particular, the collected marine Bigdata plays a significant role in providing various services like vessel operation monitoring analysis and greenhouse gas emission evaluation, and it is also essential in shipping logistics. Although this maritime Bigdata is collected during actual vessel operations, there are instances where data is lost due to temporal and environmental factors. While It is important to identify and address the fundamental cause of such losses, it is also necessary to generate data through the utilization and analysis of the collected data. This paper develops an Emulator that repeatedly generates new location data, speed values, etc., using maritime transport data collected through empirical tests. The location data is generated by calculating the standard deviation from the collected position information, and the speed values are extracted from the generated location data. The generated data is accumulated by being inserted into the database in real-time. To demonstrate the performance of the Emulator, evperiments were conducted using 5 routes, providing its excellence.

  • The changes caused by the 4th industrial revolution are accelerating the convergence of technologies due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. As a result, rapid changes are expected in various fields of society and industry. The shipping and logistics industry is also in urgent need of smartization due to changes in environment and technology. However, in the case of Korea, the smartization of shipping and logistics technology is insufficient compared to that of advanced countries. For smartization for complex business processing with many related entities, smooth communication and visual confirmation using the latest technologies are becoming important. Such visualization and communication will become more important in smart shipping and logistics This study intends to present an integrated communication tool between self-driving ships and container terminals for the realization of smart shipping and logistics. In particular, a study was conducted on the development of a digital twin-based communication tool that satisfies the requirements of ship berthing and loading/unloading operations in which various actors participate and process complex tasks.
