Sprouting and Sprout Growth of four Quercus Species -At Natural Stands of Querucs mongolica, Q. variabilis, Q. acutissima and Q. dentata Growing at Kwangju-Gun, Kyonggi-Do- (참나무류 4개 수종의 맹아발생력 및 맹아생장량 -경기도 광주지방 신갈나무, 굴참나무, 상수리나무, 떡갈나무 천연임분을 대상으로-)

  • This study was carried ou to compare sprouting and sprout growth after the stumps of four Quercus species(Q. mongolica, Q. variabilis, Q. acutissima and Q. dentata) were cut at 20cm from the soil surface in 1996 and 2000 at Mt. Taehwa, Kwangju-Gun, Kyounggi-Do, Korea. The results obtained were as follows: ⑴ Q. mongolica showed most vigorous sprouting, followed by Q. variabilis, Q. dentata, and Q. acutissima. ⑵ The sprouting ability was more vigorous when cut in winter to earl spring than that in summer. ⑶ The initial diameter growth of the sprouts for 2 year after cutting was the highest in Q. acutissima, followed by Q. dentata, Q. mongolica and Q.variabilis, but the growth for 5years after cutting was Q. variabilis > Q. mongolica > Q. dentata > Q. acutissima. ⑷ The height growth of sprouts for 2 years after cutting was the highest in Q. acutissima and followed by Q. mongolica, Q. dentata and Q. variabilis, but the growth for 5 years after cutting was Q. variabilis > Q. mongolica > Q. dentata > Q. acutissima. ⑸ Tending is needed for the stands of Q. variabilis and Q. acutissima to be regenerated successully by sprouting. ⑹ The sprouting ability of Quercus species decreased with incerasing stump diameter, while its diameter growth seemed to increase.

  • To evaluate the effects of transportation system operation, usually measures of effectiveness(MOE) such as travel time, space mean speed, stop/delay ratio have been used. But, energy consumption as well as the existing MOE in transportation receives more attention as an alternative MOE in transportation operation. The purpose of this study is a development of procedure, which could measure the relative energy consumption for each alternative and compare the results. A mesoscopic simulator called INTEGRATION is used to evaluate the operation of high occupancy vehicle lane, signal optimization, lane expansion, and the application of ITS. Among those, the application of ITS shows the greatest effectiveness in energy reduction, and then lane expansion, signal optimization, and the operation of high occupancy vehicle lane in the order named. Because we don't consider the characteristics of vehicle class, Potential demand and the simulation time is just for an hour. it is recommended that a procedure for precise economic analysis and an improvement in methodology are needed in the future for the expanded application of this study.

Energy Budget for Larval Development of Pandalus hypsinotus BRANDT (도화새우, Pandalus hypsinotus의 유생발생)

  • Zoeal stage's larvae of pandalid shrimp Pandalus hypsinotus, is distributed off the East sea and esteemed as a valuable shrimp resource in Korea, were reared in $10^{\circ}C$ temperature-controlled chambers and inverstigated the energy budget. The total energy intake per larva of zoea I to VI stages fed on Artemia nauplii was 140.88 J. The energy loss by respiration, molting, and excretion were 16.22 J, 1.19 J, and 106,40 J, respectively. The amount of energy used by growth was 17.07 J. Pandalid larvae assimilated $24.47\%$ of the ingested food. The gross efficiency ($K_1$) calculated by the equation of (growth+exuviae)/ingestion $rate{\times}100$ was $12.96\%$, and the net growth rate ($K_2$) calculated by the equation of (growth rate + exuviae)/(growth rate+ exuviae+ respiration rate)${\times}100$ was $52.96\%$. The percentage used for somatic growth and maintenance among the assimilated energy were $49.51\%$ and $47.04\%$ respectively.

EFFICIENCY OF ENERGY TRANSFER BY A POPULATION OF THE FARMED PACIFIC OYSTER, CRASSOSTREA GIGAS IN GEOJE-HANSAN BAY (거제${\cdot}$한산만 양식굴 Crassostrea gigas의 에너지 전환 효율)

  • The efficiency of energy transfer by a population of the farmed pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas was studied during culture period of 10 months July 1979-April 1980, in Geoje-Hansan Bay near Chungmu City. Energy use by the farmed oyster population was calculated from estimates of half-a-month unit age specific natural mortality rate and data on growth, gonad output, shell organic matter production and respiration. Total mortality during the culture period was estimated approximate $36\%$ from data on survivor individual number per cluster. Growth may be dual consisted of a curved line during the first half culture period (July-November) and a linear line in the later half period (December-April). The first half growth was approximated by the von Bertalanffy growth model; shell height, $SH=6.33\;(1-e^{0.2421(t+0.54)})$, where t is age in half-a-month unit. In the later half growth period shell height was related to t by SH=4.44+0.14t. Dry meat weight (DW) was related to shell height by log $DW=-2.2907+2.589{\cdot}log\;SH,\;(2, and/or log $DW=-5.8153+7.208{\cdot}log\;SH,\;(5. Size specific gonad output (G) as calculated by condition index of before and after the spawning season, was related to shell height by $G=0.0145+(3.95\times10^{-3}{\times}SH^{2.9861})$. Shell organic matter production (SO) was related to shell height by log $SO=-3.1884+2.527{\cdot}1og\;SH$. Size and temperature specific respiration rate (R) as determined in biotron system with controlled temperature, was related to dry meat weight and temperature (T) by log $R=(0.386T-0.5381)+(0.6409-0.0083T){\cdot}log\;DW$. The energy used in metabolism was calculated from size, temperature specific respiration and data on body composition. The calorie contents of oyster meat were estimated by bomb calorimetry based on nitrogen correction. The assimilation efficiency of the oyster estimated directly by a insoluble crude silicate method gave $55.5\%$. From the information presently available by other workers, the assimilation efficiency ranges between $40\%\;and\;70\%$. Twenty seven point four percent of the filtered food material expressed by energy value for oyster population was estimated to have been rejected as pseudofaeces : $17.2\%$ was passed as faeces; $35.04\%$ was respired and lost as heat; $0.38\%$ was bounded up in shell organics; $2.74\%$ was released as gonad output, $2.06\%$ was fell as meat reducing by mortality. The remaining $15.28\%$ was used as meat production. The net efficiency of energy transfer from assimilation to meat production (yield/assimilation) of a farm population of the oyster was estimated to be $28\%$ during culture period July 1979-April 1980. The gross efficiency of energy transfer from ingestion to meat production (yield/food filtered) is probably between $11\%\;and\;20\%$.

  • 무선 센서 네트워크에서 이동하는 물체를 에너지 효율적으로 추적하기 위하여 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그 중 대표적인 것은 물체의 이동에 따라 동적으로 클러스터링을 구성해 나가는 방법이다. 물체의 이동에 따라 클러스터를 구성한 후 클러스터 내부에서는 모든 센서 노드들이 연속적으로 물체를 모니터링하거나 혹은 일반적인 스케줄링 기법을 사용하여 에너지 소모를 분산시킨다. 이런 스케줄링 기법들은 환경 모니터링 등 일반적인 센서 네트워크를 대상으로 개발되고 있기 때문에 이동하는 물체를 추적하는 응용에서는 적합하지 않다. 본 논문에서는 물체의 이동경로를 따른 동적 클러스터링 환경에서 물체의 이동 정보를 고려한 클러스터 내부에서의 스케줄링 기법을 제안함으로써 이동하는 물체에 대한 missing-rate를 최소화하는 동시에 에너지 소모를 최대한 줄임으로써 전체 센서 네트워크의 생명주기를 연장시키고자 한다. 시뮬레이션 결과가 증명하는 바와 같이 제안한 방안은 보다 낮은 에너지 소모와 missing-rate를 달성하였다.

Study on Comparison of Global Biofuels Mandates Policy in Transport Sector (해외 주요국 수송용 바이오연료의 혼합의무 정책비교 분석 연구)

  • Biofuls are considered as an option to reduce greenhouse gases emission, increase energy supply diversity and security of supply, as well as an opportunity for job creation and rural development. First of all, biofuls technologies have been promoted as a means for reducing the carbon intensity of the transport sector. Hence, in the last decade biofuels production has been driven by governmental policies. The key instruments widely adopted to foster production and increase consumption have been mandatory blending targets, tax exemptions and sibsidies. As one of the most powerful instruments, biofuel mandates require fuel producers to produce a pre-defined amount (or share) of biofuels and blend them with petroleum fuel. National biofuels mandates are in place 35 countries and partially in place in 6 countries. In this study, we reviewed status of global biofuels policies to reduce greenhouse gases in the European Union, United States and other countires worldwide. Especially, we discussed representative biofuels mandates policies same as Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS, US), Renewable Transport Fules Obligation (RTFO, UK) in transport sector.

  • Recently, as the needs for eco-friendly aero propulsion system increase gradually, many study works have been conducted to develop the hybrid propulsion system for High Altitude Long Endurance(HALE) UAV. In this study, we analyzed both suitable energy distribution and management methodology among the total energy collected from solar cell and the total required energy of aerial vehicle and required energy of the regenerative fuel cell(RFC) for driving in the night time and optimized the energy balance mechanism based on the ascribed mission profile.

  • In order to analyze the status of development of solar thermal technology in Korea, importance and characteristics of solar thermal technology is considered. That is, solar collector, solar hot water heater, solar industrial system and solar buildings is analyzed in the view of worldwide technology, And then, domestic insolation sources and sale amounts of solar system is introduced. In this paper, it Is presented long-term objective in the basic plan of development new & rowable energy in Korea. As a result of analysis, the status of solar thermal technology in Korea is pactical use state in the field of low temperature use and application state in the field of mid-temperature use.

  • The objective of this paper is to provide a review on the latest development on the main initiative and approaches for the sustainability criteria for biofuels. A large number of national and international initiative lately experienced rapid development in the review of the biofuels targets announced in the European Union (EU), United States (US) and other countries worldwide. The global biofuel targets are likely to have a strong impact on land use and agricultural markets. Although biofuels production provides new options for using agricultural crops, there are environmental, social and economic concerns associated with biofuel production. The diversity of feedstock, large number of biofuels pathway an their complexity lead to a high uncertainty over the greenhouse gas (GHG) performances of biofuels, in terms of GHG emission reductions compared to the fossil fuels, expecially if land use change is involved. This paper describes an overview of current status of ongoing certification initiative in Europe and worldwide for biofuels sustainability. It also provides mandatory requirements as part of an sustainability scheme in EU, United Kingdom, US and international approaches and should be reviewed to introduce based on global trends in Korea.

An Energy Efficient Uni-Scheduling based on S-MAC in Wireless Sensor Network (무선 센서 네트워크에서 S-MAC기반의 에너지 효율적인 스케줄 일원화 방안)

  • S-MAC은 전송 지연을 희생하고 전체 센서 노드의 동작 수영을 연장하기 위한 무선 센서 네트워크에 특화된 MAC(Medium Access Control) 프로토콜이다. IEEE 802.11을 수정하여 만들어진 S-MAC은 주기적인 Listen and Sleep 스케줄방식을 사용하여 무선 센서 네트워크에서 발생하는 에너지 소모를 줄였다. S-MAC을 사용하는 무선 센서 네트워크에서 초기에 수행하는 것이 자신의 동작 주기를 결정하고 알리는 것이다. 이 과정에서 무작위(randomization)로 선택된 시간을 사용하여 스케줄한 결과 다원화된 스케줄이 발생된다. 결국 서로 다른 스케줄 클러스터가 만들어지고 이 클러스터 경계에 있는 노드는 어긋난 Listen시간으로 인해 서로 통신을 하지 못한다. S-MAC 에서는 서로 다른 스케줄을 수용하는 경계 노드(border node)를 두어 해결하고 있다. 하지만, 경계 노드는 다른 노드에 비해 에너지 소모가 높고 브로드캐스트 형식의 데이터 전송 효율이 떨어진다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 S-MAC의 다원화된 스케줄 방식의 문제점을 해결하는 H-SYNC(Heartbeat-SYNC) 스케줄 일원화 방안을 제안하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 성능비교 및 평가를 실시한 결과 낮은 에너지 소모를 달성하였다.
