  • Circulating fluidized bed system consists of SEWGS reactor - lower loop seal - regeneration reactor - riser - cyclone - upper loop seal has been used for solid circulation between the SEWGS reactor and the regeneration reactor in a SEWGS system for pre-combustion $CO_2$ capture. A vertical type lower loop seal has been used in current system but this lower loop seal requires high gas flow rate through the lower loop seal for fluidization and smooth solid circulation, and consequently, causes slugging behavior sometimes. To overcome these disadvantages, inclined type lower loop seal was proposed by this study. Solid circulation characteristics with change of lower loop seal geometry were measured and compared in a bubbling - bubbling - riser type circulating fluidized bed using $CO_2$ absorbent (P-78) as bed material at ambient temperature and pressure. We could conclude that the inclined lower loop seal is better than the vertical type lower loop seal from the viewpoints of minimum flow rate requirement for stable solid circulation and solid height change during solid circulation.

  • Cryogenic propellant rockets utilize a natural circulation loop of cryogenic fluid to cool the engine inlet temperature before launch. The geometric information about the circulation system, such as length and diameter of the pipes and the heat input to the system, defines the mass flow rate of the natural circulation loop. We performed experiments to verify the natural circulation mass flow rate and compared the results with the analytical results. The comparison of the mass flow rate between experiments and numerical simulations showed a 12% offset. We also included a prediction of the natural circulation flow rate in the low-gravity section and in the acceleration section in the upper stage of the launch vehicle. The oxygen tank should have 100 kPa(a) of pressure in the acceleration section to maintain a high flow rate for the natural circulation loop. In the low-gravity section, there should be an optimal tank pressure that leads to the maximum natural circulation flow rate.

  • A large-scale hot water production system using a natural circulation loop was developed. A computer simulation program was developed to design and evaluate thermal performance of the natural circulation system for hot water production. An experimental apparatus was set up and was tested against various conditions to exhibit a stable operating region of the natural circulation loop. When the system was a stable state for heating rate (695 ㎾) and feed water was circulated at 0.3 $\ell$/s constantly. A unstable state was checked by experiment and that time flow rate was oscillated with 0.4∼0.6 $\ell$/s. The result showed that the program can predict the thermal performance of the large-scale hot water system using the natural circulation loop and can be utilized to design the system.

  • A mathematical model for predicting the liquid circulation velocity in an airlift reactor was developed based on the mechanical energy balance of the fluid circulation loop. The model considered the energy loss due to a 90° turn, the energy loss due to friction, and the energy loss due to the change in cross-sectional area at each part of the reactor. The model that separately considered the loss coefficients related to friction, direction change, and cross-sectional area change was able to predict the liquid circulation velocity better than the previous model using lumped parameters. The liquid circulation velocity was measured by the tracer pulse method. Most of our experimental results obtained in external-loop airlift reactors, which had the top and bottom connecting pipes, as well as other investigators' results obtained in various types of airlift reactors, were well predicted by the developed model with an error within 20%. Useful empirical equations for the loss coefficient related to the 90° turn of the circulating fluid were obtained in external and internal-loop airlift reactors and used to predict the liquid circulation velocity.

  • A simplified fast-running system code is developed to simulate loop transients such as pump coastdown, loop failures and natural circulation. Special emphasis is put on the numerical investigation of the natural circulation system with multiloop. For this purpose, 5 governing equations are derived, and they are discretized by the space-time integration technique. The developed computer program is applied to three sample problems; transition from 2-loop to 1-loop operation, transition from 1-loop to 2-loop operation, and the transient behavior with decay power in the case of 2-loop operation.

  • An experimental study is performed to investigate the thermal and flow characteristics of subcooled liquid nitrogen in a natural circulation loop. Experimental apparatus is designed and constructed such that a closed loop is cooled at the top by a cryocooler and heated nearly at the bottom by cartridge heaters. Steady state is obtained by controlling the heating power to the cartridge heaters and a thin-film heater to reduce the cooling power of the cryocooler. Temperature is measured at several locations of the loop and the mass flow rate through the loop is estimated from the energy balance in terms of the measured temperatures. Experiment is repeated for various values of the vertical height between the cooling and heating parts. The results show that the heat transfer capability of the loop has a maximum at a certain value of height. The optimal height to maximize the heat transfer is in a good agreement with analytical prediction to take into account the buoyancy and viscous forces in the loop.

  • The objective of this work is to investigate the effects of diminished primary coolant inventory and the presence of noncondensible gas during single- and two-phase natural circulation in a PWR loop model. The test model was composed of two loops with a U-tube heat exchanger in each loop. Through a series of tests, it has been confirmed that the two-phase natural circulation flow rates were greatly dependent on primary coolant inventory as previous investigators observed. The primary coolant inventory limit to maintain two-phase natural circulation was found to be the amount of the coolant necessary to keep the waterline of the coolant nozzle hole center in this model. The presence of noncondensible gas impede the single-phase natural circulation, but it did not affect the two-phase natural circulation significantly.

  • This study aimed to identify characteristics of Generation MZ's consumer purchase decision journey to develop the new fashion CDJ model. The initial stage was affected by habit, online community, social media, aesthetics, circumstantial need, and proxy. In the search and consideration stage, mobile channels were used actively. In the active search and evaluation stage, online media, experiential data, and personal information were employed. In the purchase stage, zoomers took plenty of time in search and evaluation before spending, contrary to millennials who made their purchases more quickly. In the post-purchase experience stage, zoomers actively displayed follow-up behaviors depending on their satisfaction, such as retaining or deleting the app. While, millennials did not turn away from the store or brand, but followed up on their purchases even when they had an unsatisfactory experience. Based on the characteristics of CDJ, iterative cycle CDJ models were developed. Zoomers CDJ model was presented as a search loop that consists of the search and evaluation process, in which information accumulates, and a purchase loop in which the actual purchase occurs. The iterative cycle CDJ model was presented connected to the loyalty loop as the main section, which is accelerated in millennials' CDJ model.

  • To remove heat generated during a burn-up test of nuclear fuels, the heat generation rate of nuclear fuels should be calculated accurately, and a coolant should be circulated in the test loop at an adequate flow rate. HANARO is an open pool-type reactor with an independent test loop for the burn-up test of nuclear fuels. A test rig is installed in the test loop, and a coolant is circulated through the test loop to maintain the temperature of the nuclear fuel rods within a desired temperature during an irradiation test. The components and sensors in the test rig can be broken or malfunction owing to the flow-induced vibration. In this study, a coolant flow simulation system was developed to verify and confirm the soundness of components and sensors assembled in the test rig with a high flow rate of the coolant.
