통일시대의 문학은 다시 좌.우문학, 즉 문학의 정치성.이념성을 주장하는 사회주의 계급문학과 문학의 자율성.예술성을 강조하는 자본주의 순수문학이 갈등을 겪을 수밖에 없을 것이다. 실상 분단의 비극은 이러한 삶의 두 속성, 문학의 근본이치가 정당하게 구현되지 못한 데서 오는 온갖 모순과 불합리를 의미한다.

일본적 세계, 일본적 사상을 탁월하게 그려낸 다니자키 준이치로, 시가 나오야, 가와바타 야스나리, 그리고 오에 겐자부로에 이르기까지 수많은 순수 문학작품이 한국에서 폭넓게 읽히지 않았던 것은 출판사 탓도 일본문학계의 탓도 아니다.

자신의 분야에서 일정한 문학적 성가를 올리고 있는 시인 소설가들이 최근들어 동화나 동시 창작에 뛰어들고 있다. 아동문화작가들에 의한 아동문학의 고집스런 벽을 허무는 이같은 시도들은, 그동안 어린이독자들에게 거의 외면당해온 순수창작물의 새로운 가능성을 열어보인다는 점에서 일단은 긍정적으로 평가된다.

분단 이후 반세기 세월이 흐르는 동안 과학기술 분야에도 이질적인 문제가 산재해 있다. 남한이 응용과학을 토대로 삼고 있는데 비해 북한은 순수과학을 중시한다는 점, 북한이 발표했던 연구실적에 대한 진위 여부, 북한 과학자들과의 처우 문제 등은 통일 이후 논란이 될 수 있는 부분이다. 그러나 이런 예상되는 쟁점은 인문.사회과학 분야에 비하면 거의 없는 것이라 해도 과언이 아니다.

'혹한의 동토에는 봄은 오는가' 올 한해 독자 곁으로 찾아갈 책의 운명을 생각하면 가장 먼저 떠오르는 질문이다. 아직도 그 파괴력이 고갈되지 않은 IMF의 위기는 출판인들의 머리에서 떠나지 않는 망령이다. 하지만 이제 출판계는 내성의 시간을 지나 조용히 전열을 가다듬고 있다. 각 출판사들의 기획안을 살펴보면 해동의 기미가 뚜렷이 느껴진다. 우선 몇몇 출판사의 대형 기획물이 출판시장에 모닥불을 피울 것으로 보인다. 한국의 전통문화에 대한 탐구가 심화되고 인문학에서 정신분석학의 활약이 눈부실 전망이다. 대중문학이 여전히 득세할 것이지만 순수문학계도 중견작가들의 저력이 돋보일 것이다. 새로운 천년의 갈림길에 선 한국사회에서 소장파 지식인들의 준엄한 반성과 성찰이 우리 사회에 날카로운 메스를 가한다.

This study analyzes the animal symbolism shown in the novella by Hyoseok Lee and seeks to shed light on the consciousness of the author expressed through such symbolism. Lee used animal symbolism since 1933 which was a literary turning point for him. Animal symbolism in his novels are more than an analogical theme but is used as a core meaning and image. This has a clear intention of the author underneath. Novella which is seen as the starting point of pure literature for Lee, uses the animal pig as a key symbol. The pig serves as a symbol of the capital for poor farmers, while also serving as an amplifier for the desires of the protagonist. The death of the pig that appears at the closing of the novella stands for the tragic reality of the farmers of the time who could not seek growth in their capital or realization of their desires. As such, has characteristics of pure literature but also represents the consciousness of the author who brings attention to the tragic reality of farmers. That is, is a work that realized the unique writing style of Lee and his animal symbolism to bring to life a middle way appraoch to realism and romanticism.

대한출판문화협회(회장 권병일)가 선정하는 '이 달의 청소년도서' 91년 8-9월분으로 다음 11종(11책)의 도서가 선정됐다. 분야별로는 철학(2종) 문학(3종) 역사(2종) 사회과학(2종) 순수과학(3종). 재단법인 한국출판금고(이사장 정진숙)는 총 1200여만원의 예산을 들여 선정도서 1종당 300부씩을 구입, 전국 각 지방의 공공도서관 81곳을 비롯, 청소년 선도기관.소년원.지방문화원 등 300곳에 기증했다. This study compares the history of modern Korean literature written in China with the history of South Korean literature, the history of North Korean literature and the history of national literature, explores aspects of narrative and therefore examines transcultural practice presented in such texts. There have hitherto been approximately 25 works on the history of Korean literature written in China, and 16 of 25 works are on the history of modern Korean literature. Regarding their purpose, the number of pedagogical works outstandingly exceeds the number of research works. In terms of perspective and contents, it can be divided into three categories; one that only embraces the history of South Korean literature, another embracing the history of North Korean literature only and the other embracing the history of South Korean and North Korean literature. This study has selected representative texts from each category and compared recognition and narrative aspects to that of the history of South Korean literature, the history of North Korean literature and the history of Chinese literature. It further examines loci of definitions' transfer and formation as well. As a result, this study reveals valuable understanding of recognition and narration of the history of Korean literature. First, this study offers an introspective attitude, as the history of modern Korean literature accentuates influence of only Western literature, overlooking influence of Chinese literature. Second, this study proposes a new narrative perspective on the history of Unified Korean literature through independent and objective identification of the history of North Korean literature. Last, it emphasizes popularization of literature - aside from pure literary-centrism - and expands possibilities of embracing distinct works relevant to multimedia.
