  • In recent years, the terminology "High-Performance Concrete(HPC)" has been introduced into the construction industry. Most high-performance concretes have a high cementitious content and a low water-cementitious material ratio. The proportions of the individual constituents vary depending on local preferences and local materials. Therefore, many trial batches are usually necessary before a successful mix is developed. The objective of this experiments is to investigate the fundamental properties of high performance concrete based binary cimentitious materials such as ordinary portland cement and ground granulated blast furnace slag. The results from the study will be utilized as the basic data and guideline in making standard mixproportions and the manufacture, construction work and quality control of HPC

  • In this study, early-age properties of mortar containing calcium chloride as an accelerator was investigated. The time of setting of the mortar by ultrasonic tester and penetrometer was assessed to prove its acceleration effect on hydration and the compressive strength was also measured to examine the effect of calcium chloride on the early-age strength.

  • It is time-consuming to estimate chloride diffusivity of concrete by concentration difference test. For the reason chloride diffusivity of concrete is mainly tested by electrically accelerated method, which is accelerating the movement of chloride ion by potential difference. In this study, portland cement concrete and concrete containing with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (40 and 60% of cement by weight) with water-cementitious material ratio 40, 45, 50 and 60% were manufactured. To compare with chloride diffusivity calculated from the electrically accelerated test and immersed test in artifical seawater, chloride diffusivity tests were conducted. From the results of regression analysis, regression equation between accelerated chloride diffusivity and immersed chloride diffusivity was linear function. And the determinant coefficient was 0.96 for linear equation.

  • To develope chemical heat pump using available energy sources such as solar heat and many kinds of waste thermal energy we have studied the enhancement effect of inserted fins in cylindical packed bed reactor. Two dimensionnal(radial and circumferential) partial differential eqaetions, concerning heat and masstransfer in CaO packed bad, are solved numerically to describe the characteristics of the reaction of fins inserted reactor and heat transfer. The results obtained by numerical analysis about two dimensional profiles of temperature and conversion in the reactant in the packed bed and exothermic heat amount released from the reactor are follows; -. The insertion of fins in reactor can redue the reaction completion time by half. -. The rate of thermochemical reaction depends of the temperature and concentration and it is also governed by the boundary conditions and heat transfer rate in the particle packed bed.

  • In order to investigate the inhibitory index (I) and the effects of hot water extraction treatments and addition of accelerators on the index in hardening of Korean lignocellulosics, portland cement (Type I) and water system, hydration tests were carried out on 8 Korean lignocellulosics, namely, Pinus densiflora, Pinus rigida, Pinus koraiensis, Abies holophylla, Larix leptoiepis, Populus alba-glandulosa, rice husk and rice stalk with or without hot water extraction or chemical additives. The inhibitory index of Pinus densiflora and Pinus rigida found to be suitable under limited conditions for composite without any treatment. With hot water treatment rice husk, Pinus koraiensis, Larix leptolepis, and A hies holophylla were reclassified from not suitable to suitable under limited conditions. Combining hot water extraction with chemical addition of accelerator, calcium chloride of magnesium chloride, Populus alba-glandulosa, Larix leptolepis, and Pinus rigida became highly suitable.

  • The influence of liquid shotcrete accelerators(alkali aluminate, two types of alkali-free) was investigated. Comparing to the existing alkali aluminate accelerator, new alkali-free accelerator, AF2, shortened initial and final setting of cement system, and after curing for 1 day compressive strength was analogous with others. On the other hand, compressive strength of specimen cured for 12 hour was the highest by the addition of alkali aluminate accelerator, but final strength was the lowest by that. But compressive strengths of AF1, AF2 were similar to Plain up to 28day. Further from XRD(X-Ray Diffractometer) and DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimeter) analyses, we confirmed that setting promoted by alkali aluminate was mainly because of Ca(OH)2(calcium hydroxide), but the accelerating behavior of alkali-free was influenced by the needle-like ettringite$(6CaO{\cdot}Al_2O_3{\cdot}3SO_3{\cdot}32H_2O)$ crystal.

  • It is well known that cracks in concrete decrease permeability and durability of concrete because cracks enhance the penetration of water or corrosive chemicals like as chlorides, carbon dioxides, sulfates and some others. But some of cracks in hardened cements may be sealed in case of contacting water. This phenomenon is called "self healing" and it has a close relation to hydration products newly formed on surfaces of cracks. Many studies on self healing in concretes commonly showed that CSH gel has been observed on crack surfaces. And some studies have reported that calcium hydroxides and ettringite were observed as well as CSH gel on crack surfaces. This study was carried out to investigate hydration products formed by self healing process and also examine the influence of waterproof admixture for concretes on self healing of cement. As a result of XRD, DSC, SEM and EDX analysis of crack surfaces, it was found that self healing of cement was related to CSH gel, calcium hydroxides and ettringite. And waterproof admixture increased fibrous (needle-like) hydration products which were in network form. It is estimated that such fibrous products are effective for self healing process of cement system.

  • In this study, performance of hardening accelerator types which promote setting and hardening of cement has been reviewed in order to develop early age strength of concrete with compressive strength of 21~27 MPa after examination of strength development of the concrete at early age according to curing temperature and unit cement(binder) content. As results, soluble mineral salt showed better hardening acceleration effect than organic salt in the scope of this study. Also, hydration reaction accelerating effect of $C_3S$ by Soluble mineral salt is effective on development of early age compressive strength and it was shown that the Pt's hydration reaction accelerating effect was the best. Construction duration reduction can be expected by securing compressive strength for prevention of early aged freezing damage in 25hour-curing time under curing temperature at $15^{\circ}C$. Also, it was shown that compressive strength of specimen cured at $5^{\circ}C$ was similar with plain specimen cured at $10^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it is expected that fuel costs and carbon dioxide can be reduced when the same construction duration is considered.

  • This study has been performed to test the flowability and filling ability of high flowing concrete as well as distribution of aggregate and pore of core specimen, heat of hydration, compressive strength and core strength of concrete. In addition, the resistance to chloride ion penetration and chemical solutionof concrete was tested in order to evaluate the resistance to sea water of concrete and its application of high flowing concrete using blended low heat cement in the field of Seohae Grand Bridge. The properties of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement were compared with ordinary 25-240-15 concrete using Type V cement. As the results of this study, the flowability and filling ability of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement is satisfied without vibration. Though the cement content of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement was 400kg/m$^2$, the rising temperature of it was relatively lower than that of the ordinary 25-240-15 concrete with Type V cement. Also, the compressive of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement is similar to that of the ordinary 25-240-15 concrete with Type V cement.

  • In this study, the development of concrete preventing initial frost damage and durability about that were evaluated by using anti-aging agent and admixture(reduced slag). As a result of experiment, initial hydration heat was increased by $C_{12}A_7$ of reduced slag components but it was not effective to development of strength. Also fluidity decreased with increasing replacement of reduced slag. This suggested that fluidity was low by rapid setting due to absent of gypsum in reduced slag components. In case of CR2G specimen that added 4% gypsum, the flow ability was higher than plain. It is considered that concrete developed using reduced slag should use $SO_3$. Result of durability experiments, the durability decreased with increasing replacement amount of reduced slag.
