Tree Form and Biomass Allocation of Quercus species, Larix leptolepis (Sieb. et Zucc.) Gordon and Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc. in Kwangju-Gun, Kyunggi-Do (경기도(京畿道) 광주지방(廣州地方)에서 자라는 참나무류, 낙엽송(落葉松) 및 잣나무의 수형특성(樹形特性)과 물질분배(物質分配))

  • Tree form characteristics and biomass distribution and volume increment for Quercus spp., Larix leptolepis and Pinus koraiensis growing in Kwangju-Gun, Kyunggi-Do were investigated. P. koraiensis showed higher crown percentage than L. leptolepis, indicating that P. koraiensis maybe shade-tolerant species. Biomass allocation by tree height showed significant difference among three species. Stem biomass distributed more dimminishing along tree height with Quercus spp. and P. koraiensis than L. leptolepis. The allometric pattern of leaf-and branch biomass appeared as normal distribution. Present biomass was highest in L. leptolepis showing 171.1tons/ha and followed by P. koraiensis and Quercus spp, with 75.3tons/ha and 61.6tons/ha, respectively.

A Comparative Study on the Relationship between Tree Form and Volume in Stands of Pinus koraiensis and Larix leptolepis (잣나무의 낙엽송림(落葉松林)에 있어서 수형(樹型)과 재적간(材積間)의 관계(關係) 비교(比較))

  • Noticed that large number of the Korean white pine (Pinus koraiensis S. et Z.) has lost its typical excurrent tree from by removal of apical shoot in the process of cone harvesting, the investigation and analysis for the species were made on the basis of the relationship among DBH, total height, merchantable height, and merchantable volume, compared with normally grown Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis Gordon). One hundred sample trees for each species were selected in the same aged stands for the study. Results have indicated that the pine has shown abnormal height growth pattern mainly by the disturbance of external artificial force. The pine's forked and/or crooked stems by the reason lave led the result of less merchantable volume in the same DBH classes. Consequently, the pine would have undesirable tree form in terms of timber production, unless free from apical shoot disturbances. Considered to the merit of the Korean white pine that can produce timber and pine nuts, management alternatives for the pine stand were suggested to achieve maximum rate of return for the silvicultural investment.

  • Nowadays the rapid change in construction environment getting more globalized and complicated has caused lots of unexpected risks from inside and out of the country, so more sophisticated construction management strategies are being strongly needed. This paper suggests a risk management model with which we can estimate the appropriate contingency by quantifying the amount of probable risks immanent in large construction projects, which have a high degree of uncertainty in the anticipation of the total construction cost. To develop the model, the risk factors that make cost variations are elicited based on the real data of the contingencies assigned to the past projects. Furthermore, the influential relationship of risk factors is structured by applying the CRM(Cost Risk Model) which is the synthetic model of Monte Carlo Simulation, Influence Diagram and Decision Tree. The ultimate outcome of this research can by validated by tile case study with a large construction project performed.

  • This paper presents stress distribution around a central crack tip in a tensile plate using phase-shifting photoelasticity and a power series stress function. Isochromatic data along the straight lines far from the crack tip were obtained by phase shifting photoelasticity and were used as input data of the hybrid experimental analysis. By using the complex-type power series stress equations, the photoelastic stress distribution fields in the vicinity of the crack and the mode I stress intensity factor were obtained. With the help of image processing software, accuracy and reliability was enhanced by twice multiplying and sharpening the measured isochromatics. Actual and reconstructed fringes were compared qualitatively. For quantitative comparison, percentage errors and standard deviations of the percentage errors were calculated for all measured input data by varying the number of terms in the stress function. The experimental results agreed with those predicted by finite element analysis and empirical equation within 2 percent error.

A Study on the Release Characteristics of VOCs from Heat Recovery Ventilation System (폐열회수형 환기장치의 휘발성유기화함물 배출 특성에 관한 연구)

  • VOCs from the heat recovery ventilation system (total heat exchanger) are measured in this study. Two different types of element (L and M type) from heat recovery ventilating system are tested to study the intial release characteristics of VOCs under KS cooling and heating standard conditions. VOCs are measured for the various flow rates and different operating times. Considering errors in the test method and the measuring instrument, the tested heat recovery ventilating systems was found to release 6 major VOCs, such as acetic acid, 2-butanone (MEK), 2-(methylthio )ethylamine, toluene, styrene, and x-acids (Ion 57). The concentrations of released VOCs are not quite much affected by operating conditions. The results show much larger VOCs concentrations in the cooling mode than in the heating mode, due to the high operating temperatures.
