  • Determination of VLBI IVP (Very Long Baseline Interferometry Invariant Point) position with high accuracy is required to compute local tie vectors between the space geodetic techniques. In general, reflective targets are attached on VLBI antenna and slant distances, horizontal and vertical angles are measured from the pillars. Then, adjustment computation is performed by using the mathematical model which connects measurements and unknown parameters. This indicates that the accuracy of the estimated solutions is affected by the accuracy of the measurements. One of issues in local tie surveying, however, is that the reflective targets are not in favorable condition, that is, the reflective sheet target cannot be perfectly aligned to the instrument perpendicularly. Deviation from the line of sight of an instrument may cause different type of measurement errors. This inherent limitation may lead to incorrect stochastic modeling for the measurements in adjustment computation procedures. In this study, error characteristics by measurement types and pillars are analyzed, respectively. The analysis on the studentized residuals is performed after adjustment computation. The normality of the residuals is tested and then equal variance test between the measurement types are performed. The results show that there are differences in variance according to the measurement types. Differences in variance between distances and angle measurements are observed when F-test is performed for the measurements from each pillar. Therefore, more detailed stochastic modeling is required for optimal solutions, especially in local tie survey.

  • Compartment models, a type of mathematical model, have been widely applied to characterize the changes in a dynamic system with sequential events or processes, such as the spread of an epidemic disease. A compartment model comprises compartments, and the relations between compartments are depicted as boxes and arrows. This principle is similar to that of the system dynamics (SD) approach to constructing a simulation model with stocks and flows. In addition, both models are structured using differential equations. With this mutual and translatable principle, this study, in terms of SD, translates a reference SEIR model, which was developed in a recent study to characterize the transmission of the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in South Korea. Compared to the replicated result of the reference SEIR model (Model 1), the translated SEIR model (Model 2) demonstrates the same simulation result (error=0). The results of this study provide insight into the application of SD relative to constructing an epidemic compartment model using schematization and differential equations. The translated SD artifact can be used as a reference model for other epidemic diseases.

  • Control input's saturation of active control devices for large structures under large external disturbances are often occurred. It is more difficult to obtain the exact values of mass and stiffness as structures are higher. The modelling errors between mathematical models and real structures must be also included as parameter uncertainties. Therefore, in active vibration control of civil engineering structures like buildings and bridges, the robust saturation controller design method considering both control input's saturation and parameter uncertainties of system is needed. In this paper, stabilities of linear optimal controller LQR, modified bang-bang controller, saturated sliding mode controller, and robust saturation controller among various controllers which have been studied and applied to active vibration control of buildings are investigated. Especially, unstable phenomena of the LQR, the modified bang-bang controller and the saturated sliding mode controller when the control input is saturated or parameter uncertainties exist are presented to show the necessity of the robust saturation controller. The robust stability of the robust saturation controller are shown through a numerical example of a 2DOF linear vibrating system and an experimental test of the two-story structure with an active mass damper (AMD).

  • The thermal decomposition of waste energetic materials such as TNT, RDX and composition B in a commercial rotary kiln has previously been carried out. As part of the demilitarization process, the thermal decomposition of homogeneous double base propellant (DB) used in M8 and consisting predominantly of nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine is examined with respect to a number of operating conditions. A single condensed phase reaction with 4 species and 365 gas phase reactions and 59 species are considered. Simulation results show the sensitivity of the thermal decomposition of DB with temperature and velocity. At relatively low velocity with constant inlet hot air temperature, temperature in the rotary kiln was found to be highest, 953 K and 1300 K for cases 3 and 6 respectively. Illustrating that optimum operating temperature can be achieved by controlling the inlet velocity without additional cooling systems.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study of the vehicle lamp manufacturing system composing ultrasonic waves connection process. Making lamp assembly plant, it was produced in the separate process as the injection molding, ultrasonic waves bonding, annealing in the constant temperature, lamp assembling and packing. But the improvement method producing the lamp was added with one-step process by one automation technique. As a result, welding with ultrasonic waves process, the method decreased the energy consumption and noise during ultrasonic waves welding. Therefore, this method used the mathematics modeling for checking validity, it selected the stability and suitable controller using transfer function of plant and bode chart. In this study, the $180^{\circ}$ revolution control system to turn injection part upside down was $M_{eq}\;lcos{\theta}(t)$ because of gravity influence. It effected to unstable condition a system. For solving this problem, it aimed the linearization and stabilization of system by elimination $M_{eq}\;lcos{\theta}(t)$ as applying Free-forward control technique.

  • It was intended in this study to investigate the effects of various parameters on the chemical reaction or mass transfer yield in a tubular-type nuclear waste treatment equipment. Since such equipments, as a tubular reactor, multistage solvent extractor, and adsorption column, accompany chemical reaction or mass transfer along the fluid-flowing direction, mathematical modeling for each equipment was carried out first. Then their behaviors of the chemical reaction or mass transfer were predicted through computer simulations. The inherent major parameters for each equipment were chosen and their sensitivities. affecting the reaction or mass transfer yield were analyzed. For the tubular reactor, the effects of axial diffusion coefficient and reaction rate constant on the reaction yield were investigated. As for the multistage solvent extractor, the backmixing of continuous phase and the distribution coefficient between fluid and solvent were considered as the major parameters affecting the extraction yield as well as concentration profiles throughout the axial direction of the extractor. For the adsorption column, the equilibrium constant between fluid and adsorbent surface, and the overall mass transfer coefficient between the two phases were taken as the major factors that affect the adsorption rate.

  • When voice is transmitted through packet switching network, there needs a overload control, that is, a control for the congestion which lasts short periods and occurrs in local extents. In this thesis, we analyzed the performance of the statistical packet voice multiplexer using the overload control strategy by bit dropping. We assume that the voice is coded accordng to (4,2) embedded ADPCM and that the voice packet is generated and transmitted according to the procedures in the CCITT recomendation G. 764. For the performance analysis, we must model the superposed packet arrival process to the multiplexer as exactly as possible. It is well known that interarrival times of the packets are highly correlated and for this reason MMPP is more suited for the modelling in the viewpoint of accuracy. Hence the packet arrival process in modeled as MMPP and the matrix geometric method is used for the performance analysis. Performance analysis is similar to the MMPP IG II queueing system. But the overload control makes the service time distribution G dependent on system status or queue length in the multiplexer. Through the performance analysis we derived the probability generating function for the queue length and using this we derived the mean and standard deviation of the queue length and waiting time. The numerical results are verified through the simulation and the results show that the values embedded in the departure times and that in the arbitrary times are almost the same. Results also show bit dropping reduces the mean and the variation of the queue length and those of the waiting time.

  • Being aware of growing needs for wireless communication led to the development of UWB systems, this study proposed an impulse for single band UWB systems which does not count a carrier; analyzed the characteristics and the problems of pulses suggested by the existing poise of the Un system; finally, proposed TDMG(Time Delay Multiple Gaussian) pulse that generates signals of UWB without attenuation of pulse width. The hardware structure of the TDMC pulse for the single band UWB system was modelled after describing the pulse in a mathematical method in an attempt to compare with performances of the existing pulses through computer simulation. The outcome of the test unveiled the fact that each center frequency of the TDMG pulse rose approximately 1GHz, and also each l0dB fractional bandwidth of the TDMG pulse was widened over 1GHz. In the case of derivative, center frequencies of the TDMG pulse rose over 1GHz each. As a consequence, the TDMG pulse appeared to have better quality frequency, satisfying the characteristics of spectrum and the band of frequency recommended by the FCC and decreasing interference with other wireless communication systems.

  • In this paper, an efficient Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE) packet transmission scheme for railroad communication is proposed. WAVE communication is a wireless local area network (WLAN) based communication and it is developed to be suitable for vehicular communication. There has been a lot of study on WAVE's applicability to Intelligent Transport System (ITS). As one of main transportation methods, by using WAVE, quality of railroad communication including WLAN based Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) can be enhanced and variety of railroad communication systems can be integrated into WAVE. However, there are technical challenges to adopt WAVE in railroad communications. For the simplest single-PHY WAVE, time division alternation of 50ms between Control Channel (CCH) and Service Channel (SCH) is required. Since there are delay sensitive railroad traffic types, alternation operation of CCH and SCH may cause performance degradation. In this paper, after identifying a couple of problems based on detailed analysis, a novel packet transmission scheme under railroad environment is proposed. In order to verify if the proposed scheme meets the requirement of railroad communication, WAVE transmission is mathematically modeled.
