Effect of Repeated Immersion on Material Properties of Asphalt Mixtures (반복적인 수침이 아스팔트 혼합물의 재료물성에 미치는 영향)

  • Moisture damage of asphalt mixtures can occur because of a loss of bond between the asphalt binder and the fine and coarse aggregates. Therefore, moisture damage on asphalt pavements is the main cause of potholes, which is one of the main distress type of asphalt pavement. The purpose of this study is to evaluation effect moisture damage on material properties of asphalt mixtures through the laboratory performance test. The existing Modified Lottman test procedure was improved and the number of times that thermal cyclic conditioning can be added until the asphalt mixtures is damaged, was tested in order to exhibit the changes of the material properties because of moisture damage by immersion. Through the above experiments, it was found that the material properties of asphalt mixtures on room-temperature were rapidly decreased with loss of about 50% at initial stage of moisture damage caused by the amount of repeated immersion. Also, it was found that the property damage ratio using material properties of failure energy and $DCSE_f$ by test temperature $25^{\circ}C$ were showed a high relationship to moisture damage of the asphalt mixtures caused by the amount of repeated immersion.

A Study on the Interface Shear Strength of HDPE Textured Geomembrane (HDPE 표면처리 지오멤브레인의 경계면 전단강도에 관한 연구)

  • This paper evaluates the interface shear strength of HDPE textured geomembrane. The interface shear strength between textured geomembrane and marl, and textured geomembrane and woven geotextile were measured; and the smooth geomembrane was used to evaluate the effect of "texture" on the interface shear strength. The interface shear strength was measured using a large direct shear testing device under several conditions including the presence of water, and the normal stresses that were 12, 24, 45, 100, 500, and 1,000 kPa. From testing results, it was found that there was meaningful reduction in the interface shear strength in the presence of water, but the effect of normal stress was not clear. The interface shear strength was measured to be significantly different for smooth geomembrane, whose strength was measured to be as small as half that of the textured geomembrane.

A Study on the Shape and Cone Resistance of Dredged Fill in Geotextile Tube under Water and Drained Conditions (준설토의 퇴적형상과 수침조건에 따른 토목섬유 튜브 내 준설토의 콘 저항치에 관한 연구)

  • A series of tests were conducted to examine the filled tube shape with respect to the filling module type used and to investigate cone resistance properties of a dredged-soil-filled geotextile tube under water and drained conditions. Results based on the filling observation showed that the distribution of the accumulated fills inside the acrylic cell and vinyl tubes differs with respect to the type of filling modules. A crater formation around the inlet area was found during the test using I-type filling module and a horizontal sediment distribution was found during the test using inverse T-Type filling module. The dredged fill material was obtained from the Saemangeum area. The geotextile tube deformation of each filling stage was almost converged when the tube was fully drained. The cone resistance of the dredged fill in the geotextile tube under drained condition is large and is approximately 2~6 times that of the tube under water condition.

The Characteristics of Shear Strength on Weathered Residual Soils for the Effect of Soaking and Disturbance (수침 및 교란 효과에 따른 풍화잔적토의 전단강도 특성)

  • It is difficult to evaluate the shear strength of weathered residual soils because of the difficulties of undisturbed sampling. In this study, a sampling device, direct shear box with shoe, was developed in order to get undisturbed samples easily for direct shear tests, and undisturbed samples could be successfully obtained. Through direct shear tests on undisturbed samples, the shear strength was evaluated with the variation of saturated conditions. In order to consider the effect of disturbance on the shear strength, a static compaction device was developed, and then it was found that undisturbed samples show greater shear strengths than the disturbed ones under natural water contents and similar strengths to the ones under soaked conditions. Further, the shear strength evaluated from direct shear tests was compared with the result of triaxial tests on undisturbed samples, and soaked strengths of the former were similar to the latter. As the result of stability analyses on an actual failed slope, it was found that the shear strength can be evaluated reasonably using direct shear box with shoe.

효소처리에 의한 변형 찹쌀가루의 유과제조 가능성에 대한 연구

  • 유과의 제조과정중 찹쌀의 장기간 수침시 미생물적 효소 작용에 의해 자연적으로 찹쌀 성분이 변화됨으로써 이들 변화가 유과의 독특한 질감 특성에 기여함이라는 사실에 기초하여, 본 연구에서는 효소 처리 및 미생물 접종에 의한 인위적인 방법을 통해 단시간 내에 이들과 유사한 성분 변화를 나타낼 수 있는 변형 찹쌀가루를 개발하여 유과 제조 가능성을 알아봄으로써 유과의 제조공정을 단축시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 1. 각 처리시료에 따른 유과의 팽화도골 비교한 결과, 효소 처리군중 pH6.5$\longrightarrow$3.5, 35$^{\circ}C$(T1) 과 45$^{\circ}C$(T2) 처리군에서 28일간 수침시켜 제조한 유과와 비교될 만한 유사한 팽화도를 나타내었다. 2. 유과의 경도는 효소처리 시킬 경우 pH7.5$\longrightarrow$3.5와 $65^{\circ}C$처리군을 제외하고는 28일간 수침시켜 제조한 유과보다 부드러웠으나 peak 수에 있어서는 pH6.5$\longrightarrow$3.5처리군을 제외하고는 모든 처리군에서 감소하여 아삭아삭한 정도는 다소 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 3. 팽화도와 결도 결과와 유사하게 유과의 외관과 미세구조 역시 pH6.5$\longrightarrow$13.5(P1), 35$^{\circ}C$(T2)와 45$^{\circ}C$ (T3) 처리군에서 바람직한 유과의 외관을 나타내었고 미세하고 균일한 기공이 관찰되었다. 4. 유과의 관능검사 결과에서도, volume(용적 증가율), cell uniformity(기포의 균일한 정도)와 overall desirability(전체적으로 바람직한 정도)의 경우 효소처리시킨 시료중 pH6.5$\longrightarrow$3.5, 35$^{\circ}C$(T1)과 45$^{\circ}C$(T3)처리군이 28일간 수침시켜 제조한 유과와 비교될 만한 높은 점수를 보여 이를 처리군에서 바람직한 특성을 지닌 유과 제조가 가능한 것으로 나타났다.

  • This study is aimed for the implementation of ultrasonic method to assess the reliability of turbine bearings. A modified ultrasonic immersion technique was carried out in both laboratory experiment and field application. From the laboratory results, we confirmed that the condition of interface layer between the babbitt and base metal be monitored by the C-Scan. The C-scan image by the ultrasonic immersion test can be used successfully to observe the condition of interface layer. The testing with a focused transducer provides a promising approach for estimating the extent of the damaged region and observing the interface layer effectively. The difference of the ultrasonic reflection ratio between the bonding and debonding area at the interface layer is one of the key parameters for assessing the extent of the damaged area; additionally, the reflection amplitude exhibits a favorable correlation with the overall damage level. The technique developed in this study was applied to the inspection of the turbine bearings at several power plants in Korea whereby the applicability in the field can be ascertained.

  • Experiments were conducted to determine effects of whole and processed corns on in situ disappearance rates of nutrients in the rumen and in vitro degradability of dry matter by rumen microorganisms. Whole corn(WC) was processed into four different types; ground corn(GC), cracked corn(CC), flaked corn(FC), and soaked corn(SC). In the in situ experiment, the rate of ruminal DM disappearance after 48 hour incubation was highest in GC(76.1%) and lowest in WC and SC(12% ; P<0.01). The rate of ruminal CP disappearance after 48 hour incubation was highest in GC and CC(48 and 38%, respectively; P<0.01). The rate of ruminal OM disappearance after 48 hour incubation was highest in GC(76.14%) and lowest in WC and SC(11.82 and 12.26%, respectively; P<0.01). In the in vitro experiment, the two-stage incubation technique was used to measure digestibilities of whole and processed corns. The digestibility of DM was higher in GC, CC and FC(86.95, 85.84 and 82.29%, respectively) than in WC(15.36%; P<0.01).

The Effect of Korean Soysauce and Soypaste Making on Soybean Protein Quality Part I. Chemical Changes During Meju Making (재래식 간장 및 된장 제조가 대두 단백질의 영양가에 미치는 영향 제1보 재래식 메주 제조의 성분변화)

  • Fermented soybean Mejus were prepared in the laboratory with varying lengths of fermentation and the changes in the Chemical composition during the Meju making were determined. The moisture of cooked soybean was gradually evaporated during the Meju fermentation, and after 2 months of fermentation the water level reached to the level of the raw soybean. The concentrations of crude fat, crude protein and ash of the dry matter of soybean did not change considerably during soaking, cooking and Meju fermentation of up to 3 months, whereas carbohyrates decreased significantly during soaking and Meju fermentation. The percentage retention of the nutrients were 58% for carbohydrates and 93% for crude fat and crude protein. The nitrogen solubility of soybean decreased drastically during cooking, from 79% to 21%, while Meju fermentation increased it to approximately 30% in the first week and this level remained constant for the duration of the fermentation. The concentration of free amino nitrogen in total nitrogen of soybean decreased during cooking, from 7% to 3%, but fermentation of Meju liberated it to the level of raw soybean. The concentration of free amino-nitrogen in the total-N of soybean was increased by cooking and further increased during Meju fermentation. The amino acid pattern of soybean did not change significantly during soaking, cooking and the Meju fermentation up to 3 months. Serine and the basic amino acids, lysine, arginine and histidine, decreased to the range $81{\sim}87%$ of the raw soybean during the first month of Meju fermentation and thereafter remained almost constant. The total amino acid per 16g nitrogen was 99 g incooked soybean and 93 g in 1 month Meju, indicating a 6% reduction.

Changes of Characteristic in the Roots of Paeonia lactiflora Pallas with Different Process of Drying and Cutting (작약(芍藥)의 건조(乾燥) 및 절제방법(切制方法)에 따른 근(根) 특성(特性) 변화(變化))

  • The appropriate drying method in medicinal compounds and color of peony root was that predrying at briquet fire $(40{\sim}60^{\circ}C)$ for 6 hours or more, and then hot air drying at $40^{\circ}C$ during 60 hours. But this method needs too much time in drying. And the method that drying at $40^{\sim}C$ with hot air drying has bad result in color. In case Peony was seld by cutting product, before cutting, the Peony root was retted for 30 min. and sealed for 12 hrs. is good for drying time, Peoniflorin content and commodity.
