Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) Modal Analysis to Avoid Resonance of Cylinder Type Vertical Pump at Power Plant (원통형 수직 펌프의 공진회피를 위한 접수진동해석)

  • Resonance phenomena occurs at large vertical pump which is operating to cool down the hot steam using sea water in the power plant. To avoid the resonance, the natural frequency needs to be isolated about 20% from motor operating speed. Yet, excessive vibration occurs especially at low tide. At first, natural frequency of the whole pump system and each part is calculated using ANSYS. As it is revealed in the previous journal papers that only circular pipe part is related to resonance, the FSI technique is applied for free vibration analysis. The natural frequency is reduced to 60% (compared to that) of the frequency measured in air as it is similar to other published results. And the frequency obtained by finite element analysis is almost same to that obtained from modal test. Based on the accurate finite element model and analysis, design change is tried to avoid the resonance by changing the thickness of pipe and base supporting plate. In stead of doing optimization process, design sensitivity is computed and used to find such designs to avoid resonance.

Rotordynamic Transient Analysis of Vertical Sea Water Lift Pump for FPSO Deep Well (FPSO 심정용 수직 해수펌프의 로터다이나믹 과도해석)

  • This paper deals with the detail rotordynamic analysis for the vertical rotor system as development of vertical sea water lift pump for FPSO deep well. In a vertical rotor system, since linearized stiffness and damping coefficients of fluid film bearing are no longer be valid, hence the transient response analysis considering a fluid film force for every journal position in the bearing needs to be required. In this study, the transient response analysis of the proposed vertical pump rotor system was carried out in dry-run and wet-run conditions, respectively. The results show that orbital vibration responses of the rotor system remain stable at rated speed and thereby operating reliability of the vertical rotor system is confirmed. To overcome complexity of calculation pr ocedure and time consuming calculation of transient analysis, the calculating technique of steady-state response analysis is also proposed. The results of steady-state response obtained by applying the proposed technique to the rotor system are good agreement with the reference results, that is, transient responses.

  • As an effective means to convey crushed materials from seabed to onboard ship, air-lift pump provides a reliable mechanism due to its simple configuration and easy-to-operate principle. The present study is focused on fundamental investigation of related performance through analysis program based on the gas-liquid two-phase flow in circular pipes. It is summarized as important result that an optimum air mass flow rate exists for the maximum lifted liquid mass flow rate in terms of a given submergence rates.

  • 산불 발생 시 진화를 위해 사용되는 주력 지상 진화장비 중 동력펌프 2종과 진화 차량을 대상으로 수원지로부터 발화 지점까지 진화거리에 따른 주요 성능을 측정하였다. 성능 측정은 분당 토출량, 토출 최대압력, 수평 분사거리, 수직 분사거리의 4개 항목이었으며, 노즐의 종류에 따른 영향을 동시에 고려하였다. 산불 진화 시 적정 거리를 측정한 결과 소형펌프의 경우 600m, 중형펌프의 경우 800~1000m 정도인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 분당 토출량은 3가지 펌프 모두 50m에서 1000m로 연결할 경우 52~62% 감소가 일어나며, 최대 토출압력은 26~30% 상승되어 부하 발생시 고압호스의 파손 우려도 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 실험을 통해 소형펌프의 경우는 주 산불진화에 적합하지 않으며, 중형펌프의 경우 고압호스의 성능에 따라서 1000m이상의 거리에서도 사용이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

Secondly, in order to decrese the high vibration of pump and piping system, some practical Friction damper with high damping have been developed and its effectiveness is investigated as installing it at piping system practically.

  • In this paper, Firstly, it is shown that the bending mode vibration source of vertical pump system is comparatively large because resonance. Secondly in order to the bending mode vibration of vertical pump some practical dynamic absorber have been developed and its effectiveness is investigated as installing it at the vertical pump system practically.

  • The paper presents the possibilities of a wide practical application of the modal analysis methods in dynamic testing of vertical pump. A pneumatic impact of testing vertical pumps submerged under deep water was developed and successfully applied. The problem with the enviroment is the it causes significants changes in modal parameters, compared with those in the airenviroment.

  • A detailed investigation of a reed resonance for a vertical pump design has been conducted. The structural features of this class of pump lead to typical dynamic characteristics. Of particular importance is the fact that the pump assembly is suspended on a high column above the floor with a heavy motor on the top. Considerable amount of mass forces is involved and the vibration can cause damage to the pumps or to the foundation. It is shown that the reed resonance of the pump-motor system plays important role for design and troubleshooting purposes.
