A Study on Numerical Simulation for Predicting of Unmanned Undersea Vehicle's Manoeuvrability (수중운동체의 조종성능 예측을 위한 수치시뮬레이션에 대한 연구)

  • The Purpose of this paper was to carry out basic study on development of real-time submarine-hnadling simulator. The author adopt the Unmanned Undersea vehicle(UUV), which has taken the shape of manta[1]. They call here it Unmanned Undersea Vehicle(UUV). UUV is based on the same design concept as UUV called Manta Test Vehicle, which was originally built by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, USA[1]. The present study deals with prediction of manoeuvring motion of UUV at general drift angles and large drift angles. The dynamic mathematical model with six degrees of freedom is revised and supplemented in order to describe accurately motion of UUV. The hydrodynamic derivatives related to motion are obtained from previous work[2].

DFT-spread OFDM Communication System for the Power Efficiency and Nonlinear Distortion in Underwater Communication (수중통신에서 비선형 왜곡과 전력효율을 위한 DFT-spread OFDM 통신 시스템)

  • Recently, the necessity of underwater communication and demand for transmitting and receiving various data such as voice or high resolution image data are increasing as well. The performance of underwater acoustic communication system is influenced by characteristics of the underwater communication channels. Especially, ISI(inter symbol interference) occurs because of delay spread according to multi-path and communication performance is degraded. In this paper, we study the OFDM technique to overcome the delay spread in underwater channel and by using CP, we compensate for delay spread. But PAPR which OFDM system has problem is very high. Therefore, we use DFT-spread OFDM method to avoid nonlinear distortion by high PAPR and to improve efficiency of amplifier. DFT-spread OFDM technique obtains high PAPR reduction effect because of each parallel data loads to all subcarrier by DFT spread processing before IFFT. In this paper, we show performance about delay spread through OFDM system and verify method that DFT spread OFDM is more suitable than OFDM for underwater communication. And we analyze performance according to two subcarrier mapping methods(Interleaved, Localized). Through the simulation results, performance of DFT spread OFDM is better about 5~6dB at $10^{-4}$ than OFDM. When compared to BER according to subcarrier mapping, Interleaved method is better about 3.5dB at $10^{-4}$ than Localized method.

Development of Underwater Hull Search Time Prediction Model with Discrete Event Simulation (이산사건 시뮬레이션을 이용한 수중 선체 탐색 시간 예측 모델 개발)

  • In the event of a maritime accident, search plans have traditionally been planned using experiential methods. However, these approaches cannot guarantee safety when the scale of a maritime accident increases. Therefore, this study proposes a model utilizing discrete event simulation (DES) to predict the diving time for compartment searches of a ship located on the seabed. The discrete event simulation model was created by applying the DEVS formalism. The M/V Sewol sinking was used as an example to simulate how to effectively navigate compartments of different sizes. The simulation results showed the optimal dive time with the number of decompression chambers needed to navigate the compartment as a variable. Based on this, we propose a methodology for efficient navigation planning while ensuring diver safety.

  • Underwater sensor network has attracted more and more attention from the networking research community recently. Most of traditional studies focus on the topology with a single gateway. Underwater sensor network consists of a variable number of sensors and multi-gateway to ensure the reliability of the network. In this paper, we propose a new MAC protocol that can reduce collisions among sensor nodes and improve QoS(Quality of Service) for underwater sensor network with multi-gateway. We evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme through simulation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing MAC protocol.

  • 본 논문에서는 수중통신용 Parametric Array Transducer를 구동하기 위한 고효율 전력증폭기를 제안한다. 수중전력증폭기는 증폭부와 전원부로 나뉘며 증폭부는 Class B push-pull type의 전력증폭기를 사용하며 전력증폭기 구동을 위한 전원부는 기존의 일정전압이 아닌 가변전압을 얻는 Phase-shifted PWM AC/DC 컨버터를 사용하여 고효율로 동작한다. 증폭부는 Class B push-pull type 증폭기를 사용함으로써 뛰어난 선형성이 보장되며 전원 또한 ET(Envelope Tracking)기술을 적용한 가변전압 AC/DC컨버터를 사용하여 고효율로 동작한다. 본 논문에서는 고 효율 수중전력증폭기와 가변전압 AC/DC컨버터의 전력회로를 제시하고 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통하여 특성을 확인하였으며, 수중음향센서를 위한 전력증폭기로 유용하게 사용 될 것을 예상한다.

Optimum Turbo Equalization Method based on Layered Space Time Codes in Underwater Communications (MIMO 수중통신에서 최적의 터보 등화 기법)

  • The performance of underwater acoustic(UWA) communication system is sensitive to the Inter-Symbol Interference(ISI) due to delay spread develop of multipath signal propagation. And due to limited frequency using acoustic wave, UWA is a low transmission rate. Thus, it is necessary technique of Space-time code, equalizer and channel code to improve transmission speed and eliminate ISI. In this paper, UWA communication system were analyzed by simulation using these techniques. In the result of simulation, the proposed Turbo Equalization method based on layered Space Time Codes has improved performance compared to conventional UWA communication.

  • To obtain the system requirement specification in the beginning of the precision guidance system development, the effectiveness and reliability analysis for the system are necessary. The main purpose of this research is to obtain the system requirement specification for the high speed unmanned underwater vehicles by carrying out the effectiveness analysis using the modeling and simulation scheme. The effectiveness is position error for target position. Reaching accuracy is expected to be affected by the navigation sensor parameter. Assume that the navigation sensors that is consist of inertial navigation system(INS) and doppler velocity log(DVL) is the parameter. To analyze the effectiveness of each parameter, Monte-Carlo numerical simulation is performed in this research. The effectiveness analysis is carried out using circular error probability(CEP) and variance analyze scheme. Considering the cost function, the specification of the navigation sensor is provided. The cost function is consist of the INS and DVL specification and the price of those sensors.

A Hierarchical Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network Architecture Utilizing AUVs' Optimal Trajectory Movements (수중 무인기의 최적 궤도 이동을 활용하는 계층적 수중 음향 센서 네트워크 구조)

  • Compared to terrestrial RF communications, underwater acoustic communications have several limitations such as limited bandwidth, high level of fading effects, and a large underwater propagation delay. In this paper, in order to tackle those limitations of underwater communications and to make it possible to form a large underwater monitoring systems, we propose a hierarchical underwater network architecture, which consists of underwater sensors, clusterheads, underwater/surface sink nodes, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). In the proposed architecture, for the maximization of packet delivery ratio and the minimization of underwater sensor's energy consumption, a hybrid routing protocol is used. More specifically, cluster members use Tree based routing to transmit sensing data to clusterheads. AUVs on optimal trajectory movements collect the aggregated data from clusterhead and finally forward the data to the sink node. Also, in order to minimize the maximum travel distance of AUVs, an Integer Linear Programming based algorithm is employed. Performance analysis through simulations shows that the proposed architecture can achieve a higher data delivery ratio and lower energy consumption than existing routing schemes such as gradient based routing and geographical forwarding.   • The paper deals with the performance of contention-based medium access control (MAC) protocols for underwater sensor networks. We extensively analyze the number of received-packets and the end-to-end delay of ALOHA, CSMA, CSMA-RTS-CTS and CSMA-RTS-CTS-ACK protocols using a Qualnet underwater network simulator which accommodates diverse underwater acoustic channel environments. Using simulation results, we support an engineering table to determine an adequate contention-based MAC protocol for underwater sensor networks.
