  • This paper describes an accuracy analysis of newly developed gravimetric geoid and an improvement of developed geoid using GPS/Levelling data. We developed the KGEOID05 model corrected with the correction term. The correction term is modelled using the difference between GPS/Levelling derived geoidal heights and gravimetric geoidal heights. The stochastic model used in the calculation of correction term is the least squares collocation technique based on second-order Markov covariance function. 373 GPS stations were used to model the correction term. The standard deviation of KGEOID05 is about 11 cm and it indicates that we can be determined accurate heights ($2{\sim}3\;cm$) when we made precise modelling using KGEOID05 and a few GPS measurements for the local area.

  • The global gravitational model is essential for precision geoid model construction. Also, it would be used as basic scientific data in geophysical and oceanographic fields. In Korea, EGM2008 has been used from the late 2000s. After publishing EGM2008, new gravitational models such as GOCO02S, GOCO03S, EIGEN-6C, EIGEN-6C2 based on GOCE data were developed. Therefore, we need to verify recent models to select optimal one for geoid computation in Korea. In this study, we compared new models generated based on the GOCE data to EGM2008 and verified the precision of models by comparing with NGII(National Geographic Information Institute) GPS/Leveling data. When comparing EIGEN models to EGM2008, the difference is about 8cm. On the other h and, about 70cm of difference between GOCO models and EGM2008 has been calculated. The reason for this is because GOCO models have been developed using only satellite data while EGM2008 has been used gravity and altimeter data as well as satellite data. When comparing global gravitational model to GPS/Leveling data, EGM2008 showed the best precision of 6.1cm over whole Korean peninsula. The new global gravitational model using additional GOCE data will be published consistently, so the precision verification of new model should be continued.

  • In geoid modelling field, it is very important the GPS/leveling data because it could be check-out the accuracy of gravimetric geoid and computed the hybrid geoid. In this study, GPS surveying was accomplished in the test area including mountainous area to improve the GPS/leveling data density in Korea. And the geometric geoidal heights was calculated using the GPS/leveling data in the test area and the accuracy of the geoidal heights was analyzed. For this study, GPS surveying was accomplished on the 211 1st and 2nd order benchmarks in Gyeongbuk province and 198 GPS/leveling data were achieved after both baseline analysis and network adjustment. Geometric geoidal heights were calculated using these 198 GPS/leveling data and the accuracy analysis was done by comparison with the geoidal heights from EGM2008 geopotential model. The results showed that the bias and standard deviation computed from 190 GPS/leveling data after gross removal was -0.185$\pm$0.079m. And also, the accuracy analyses according to the benchmark order, baseline length, and altitude were accomplished.

  • In this study, we suggested the period of tide observations is proper to calculate the mean sea level(MSL) precisely on Incheon tide station using wavelet analysis, and newly determined then the vertical reference surface of Korea using the calculated MSL. In order to calculate the height difference between the calculated MSL and specific ground station (ICGP) near the Incheon tide stations, we performed the laser measurements directly to the sea surface where located below ICGP. The orthometric-height of ICGP was determined that corrected the height difference to the calculated MSL using linear interpolation method. Finally, we connected the orthometric-height of ICGP with the original benchmark (ORBM) using GPS leveling methods for determining the new orthometric-height of ORBM. As the results, there is a variation amount of 0.026m between the new MSL was calculated in this study and old MSL was calculated in 1910's. Also, there is a difference of 0.035m between the new and old orthometric-heights of ORBM. The connection (or leveling) error of 0.009m was revealed in new orthometric height of ORBM with consideration of MSL variation which may caused by the error of GPS ellipsoid height and/or geoid model. In this study, we could be determined precisely the orthometric-height of ORBM based on the new MSL of Incheon Bay using only GPS leveling method, not a spirit leveling method. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the vertical datum strictly using long-term and continuously tide observations more than 19 years and to use the GPS leveling method widely in the height leveling work for the effective changeover from the orthonormal to the orthometric in national height system.

  • Real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS surveying which allows centimeter level accuracy of three-dimensional coordinates without post-processing has become recognized as a major advance in GPS technology. Employing On-The-Fly initialization technique, the RTK system can escape from cycle slip problems that have affected as a main obstacle factor in traditional kinematic and static approaches. The objective of this research was to evaluate accuracy and effectiveness of the RTK-GPS surveying. First, the continuous RTK observation of a base line was conducted for the purpose of finding out the repeatability of the RTK surveying and the results which were then compared against results from static surveying showed RMS errors of $\pm{3mm}\;and\;\pm{13mm}$ for their respective horizontal and vertical components. On a test network of 30 stations covering the small area, the results of RTK testing were compared against those from not only post-processing kinematic and rapid-static surveyings but conventional surveyings and also the efficiency of RTK were analyzed. In addition, geoid heights which were derived by combination of GPS and spirit leveling about all of the points within the network were compared against those derived by the PNU95 and EGM96 models respectively.
