Simultaneous Determination of Mercury and Arsenic by Reductive Vapor Generation-ICP-AES (환원 증기 발생법-유도결합 플라즈마 원자방출 분광계를 이용한 수은과 비소의 동시 분석법)

  • Simultaneous determination of mercury and arsenic has been studied by reductive vapor generation-ICP-AES. Samples were digested with a microwave digestion system and extracted with acids. Reductive vapor generation was carried out with 6N HCI and 2% $NaBH_4$. Detection limit of Hg and As are found to be 0.06 ppb and 0.08 ppb, respectively. Measured values of Hg and As in inorganic samples agree well with reference value of SRMs, but the recovery of As from organic samples is obtained approximately 80% of the reference values.

  • In this study, the use of purge & trap GC-MS technique for determination of methylmercury in sediment samples was described. The method detection limit of the method was determined as 0.06 ng/g and the recovery of the method was $102{\pm}11.4%$, with precisions better than 11.2%. The method was validated by analysis of CRMs such as ERM CC580 (estuarine sediment) and IAEA 405 (sediment). Additionally, the performance of the method was tested on river sediment samples and the analytical results were compared with those of the GC-CVAFS, which has been widely used for methylmercury analysis.

  • The protective effect of sodium selenite($Na_2SeO_3$) against the cytogenetic toxicity of heavy metals was investigated on human whole-blood cultures in relation to induction of sister chromatid exchange (SCE) in secondary metaphase chromosome. Methylmercury chloride($CH_3HgCl$), cadmium chloride($CdCl_2$), potassium dichromate($K_2Cr_2O_7$), and sodium selenite caused to the typically dose-dependent increase in sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) by the concentrations ranging from $0.3{\mu}M\;to\;10{mu}M$. However, the inductions of sister chromatid exchanges by methylmercury chloride or cadmium chloride were inhibited by the simultaneous addition of sodium selenite $1.2{mu}M$. The frequencies of SCE were decreased to the level of control in the molar ratios as 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, and 1:4 of selenium selenite vs. methylmercury chloride, and as 1:1 and 1:2 of selenium selenite vs. cadmium chloride, while the frequencies of SCE induced by potassium dichromate were not changed by the addition of sodium selenite in culture condition. Mitotic indices were decreased in the higher concentrations of chemicals and not significantly changed by the simultaneous addition of sodium selenite to the culture condition containing each chemicals.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between amalgam restorations and urinary mercury levels in children for 1 year. Amalgam restoration has been widely used for over 200 years. But released mercury from amalgam can increase the concentration of mercury in the body. Methods : The subjects were 463 elementary school children. Oral examination, urine sampling, and questionnaire survey were performed at baseline and after 1 year. Results : Amalgam restoration increased the urinary mercury level to $0.55{\pm}0.13{\mu}g/g$ creatinine. In the regression analysis, variation of urinary mercury excretion were positively associated with amalgam surfaces and fish consumption. Conclusions : Small amount of mercury release from amalgam restoration was closely associated with increasing urinary mercury level.

  • 중금속이 양서류의 발생에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 Xenopus embryo 2 할구기부터 카드뮴, 수은, 납. 구리, 아연 등을 여러 농도로 지속적으로 처리한 후 치사율과 이상 발생율을 조사하였다 그 결과 수은, 카드뮴. 구리, 납. 아연의 순으로 독성이 강함을 알 수 있다. 중금속 중 카드뮴 처리시 나타나는 현상으로는 창자, 눈, 체축. 지느러미, 십장 등의 이상과 수포 등을 들 수 있다. FETAX (frog Embryo Teratogenesis Assay : Xenopus)의 분석 결과 LC$_{100}$ 은 1.5 ppm, EC$_{100}$은 1PPm 이었고 기형 유발지수(TI)가 2. 8 인 점으로 보아 카드뮴을 Xenopus embryo에 있어서 기형유발원으로 분류할 수 있다.

  • This study was carried out for the purpose of evaluating the blood mercury concentration of dentists in Korea. Samples of blood were collected from 35 dentists during daily practice in November, 1984. The mercury level in the blood was measured by mercury analyses system (Sugiyama-Gen Environmental Science Co. LTD) The result obtained from this study ws the mean of total blood mercury level of dentists was 41.62 μg/100ml and the range 17.3μg/100ml~133.3μg/100ml.

  • The typical sea-weeds such as laver, Sea tangle, tangle have been artificially polluted to measure the contents of mercury through the cooking methods of washing and immersion in acetic acid. The content of mercury of non-mercury treated laver sold in the market is $0.052{\pm}0.002\;ppm$, sea tangle, $0.048{\pm}0.005\;ppm$, and tangle, $0.078{\pm}0.010ppm$. Tangle showed the highest degree of pollution after 24 hours immersion in the 1ppm mercury solution, to be followed by sea tangle and laver. The effect of solution and dehydration in economic sense is in the order of Sea tangle, tangle and laver. In case of initial immersion in 1ppm $HgCl_2$ solution to be reimmersed in 1%, 3%, and 5% of HAC solution the residue mercury does not show much effect in density in laver, sea tangle and tangle.

  • For the management of mercury-containing products, the products were selected to do material flow analysis in preference of not having selected in previous studies. Domestically mercury have been added to pigment for prevention of bacterial growth. So, in this study paint containing pigment was selected as a target. 71 samples of paint products collected in 2014 and data of 38 samples of wastes (dust, sludge, paint) analyzed in 2010 were used in material flow analysis. The result shows that mercury was 0~0.25 mg/kg in products and 0.23~0.69 mg/kg in the wastes. In the material flow analysis, the amount of flow in the process of distribution was 10.06 kg/year, but the amount of flow in disposal like a landfill, incineration and recycling was much than distribution as 25.27 kg/year. It was caused by different sampling period between collecting products and data of wastes. Therefore, It could be possible to be affected from regulation by RoHS like decreasing usage of mercury in paint products or eradicated in the industry. Mercury contents in current paint products are very low to affect discharging to the environment.

  • 미국을 중심으로 HAPs(Hazardous Air Pollutants: 특정대기유해물질)의 유해성이 확인되면서 TRI(Toxics Release Inventory: 유해화학물질 배출공개제도)를 제도화하여 배출 원 관리를 통해 간접적으로 배출량을 줄이는 한편, 직접적으로는 규제 기준을 마련하여 저감 기술개발을 유도하고 있다. 특히 HAPs에 포함된 물질들 가운데 수은은 환경에서 메칠수은으로 변하여 유독성이 한층 높아지고, 먹이 연쇄과정을 통해 농축되어 가장 관리가 시급히 요구되는 물질로 대두되었다. 이에 따라 미국에서는 의회를 중심으로 배출 규제에 대한 일정을 확정하고, 적정한 규제농도가 정해지는 대로 이를 시행할 예정으로 있다.
