  • Vascular plants of Oruem in region of Jeju-City were investigated 454 taxa totally; 116 families, 301 genera, 359 species, 3 subspecies, 78 varieties and 14 forms. In the studied Oruems in region of Jeju-City within altitude 800m, evergreen tree forests does not range and a lot of Pines thunbergii forest and Cryptomeria japonica and Chamaecyparis obtusa plantation forest were. The endemic species of Oruem in region of Jeju-City were 14 taxa such as Asarum maculatum, Hepatica insularis, Cardamine glechomifolia etc. The floristics degree categorized by the specific distribution of plant species were total 116 Taxa, that is, V grade species Magnolia kobus, Aconitum japonicum subsp. napiforme, Ligularia taquetii etc, 6 kinds be, IV grade species Rubus ribisoideus, Ligustrum salicinum, Carex macrandrolepis etc, 16 kinds be, III grade species Illicium anisatum, Hydrangea petiolaris, Rubus schizostylus etc, 37 kinds be, II grade species Pseudostellaria coreana, potentilla dickinsii, Euonymus pauciflorus etc, 6 kinds and I grade species Sphenomeris chinensis, Pteris multifida, Machilus thunbergii etc, be. 51 kinds were confirmed. Rare and Endemic Plant Species of Korea Forest Service were 11 taxa such as Asarum maculatum, Aconitum japonicum subsp. napiforme and Magnolia kobus etc. Naturalized plant were confirmed 31 taxons with Rumex acetosella, Hypochaeris radicata and Sisyrinchium atlanticum etc.

  • In order to investigate the enhancement effects of low dose radiation on biological activation, this study applied low dose X-ray to the whole body of male rats to find out whether hormesis is induced in male germ cells. Total 36 Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats as experimental animal were subdivided into 6 groups(in 6 rats per group) such as control, 10 mGy, 20 mGy, 50 mGy, 100 mGy and 200 mGy radiation group All the groups showed slightly increasing number of sperms per 0.1g semen ($14.216{\times}10^6,\;13.901{\times}10^6,\;14.153{\times}10^6,\;13.831{\times}10^6,\;14.137{\times}10^6,\;14.677{\times}10^6$ respectively), and the motility of sperms amounted to 50.9%, 49.5%, 55.1%, 54.3%, 48.0% and 52.2% respectively. Particularly, compared to the control, the other 5 groups showed higher male hormone level, and the microscopic observations of testicle tissues showed no vacuolization in seminiferous tubules and testis cells. In the results of this experiment, no harmful effect was observed on Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats for which the dose of radiation was controlled as regulated legally by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health and Welfare. However, as these results were obtained from a limited number of animals, we cannot maintain that the same effect will be observed in the human body. Therefore, there should be further research on the effect on other animals and ultimately on the human body.

  • The study on vascular plants of Gayasan National Park was conducted in 2016 over a period of 34 days from March to October 2016. As the study, a total of 768 taxa were recorded, including 118 families, 396 genera, 691 species, 15 subspecies, 51 varieties, and 11 forms. In the vascular plants, four endangered wild plants were recorded, Ponerorchis cucullata (L.) X.H.Jin, Trientalis europaea var. arctica (Fisch.) Ledeb., Cypripedium macranthos Sw., and Pedicularis hallaisanensis Hurus. Taxa of Least Concern (LC) or higher level on National Red List published by the Ministry of Environment of Korea were 21 taxa for example Tricyrtis macropoda Miq., and Lilium cernuum Kom. A total of 37 Korean endemic plants were investigated for example Abies koreana E.H.Wilson and Impatiens atrosanguinea (Nakai) B.U.Oh & Y.P.Hong. A total of 162 taxa of floristic regional indicators (3rd to 5th degree) were investigated including 9 taxa of V, 15 taxa of IV, 38 taxa of III, 45 taxa of II, and 53 taxa of I. Naturalized plants were recorded a total of 46 taxa with a Naturalization Index of 6.0%, the Urbanization Index was calculated to be 14.3% and 5 taxa of ecosystem disturbance plants were investigated such as Sicyos angulatus L., Rumex acetosella L., and Humulus scandens (Lour.) Merr. As the result of comparison with previous studies, in this study a total of 206 taxa were newly identified including 62 families, 144 genera, 184 species, 2 subspecies, 15 varieties, and 5 forms.
