Anode materials advance in solid oxide fuel cells (고체산화물연료전지 애노드의 재료개발동향)

  • Solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs) directly convert the fuel gases to electric energy through electrochemical reactions. The advantage of SOFCs is that they easily operate with diversified fuels such as natural gases owing to their high temperature operation. However, high temperature operation also incurs the challenge in enhancing long term reliability and durability of SOFCs. The most commonly used anode material is Ni/YSZ. This has, however, some drawbacks in terms of long-term reliability at high temperatures, hydrocarbon fuel usages, and so on, therefore the need to develop the new anode materials increases. This article summarizes the trend of the novel anode materials development of SOFCs.

Safety Assessment of By-product Gas Piping after Design Change (부생가스 연료배관의 설계변경에 따른 안전성 평가)

  • Various process piping usually carries out high flammable and explosible gas under high pressure and high temperature. Due to frequent change of design and structure it becomes more complicated and compactly located. The safety management level is relatively low since it is considered as simply designed component. In this study a safety assessment procedure is proposed for complicated piping system around a mixing drum in which natural gas and by-product gases were mixed. According to ASME code, pipe stress analysis was conducted for determining design margin at some key locations of the piping. These high stress locations can be used as major inspection points for managing the pipe integrity. Sensitivity analysis with outside temperature of the pipe and support constraint condition. Possible effect of hydroen gas to the pipe steel during the previous use of the by-product gas was also discussed.

Experimental Study on Dilution Effect of Exhaust Gas in SNG Combustion on a Model Gas Turbine (가스터빈에서 SNG 연료 조성에 대한 희석제의 배기배출물 저감효과에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper describes experimental results about emission and NOx reduction of dilution effect (Nitrogen and carbon dioxide) about various fuel compositions of synthetic natural gas (SNG). Combustion experiment was performed to investigate the combustion characteristics for SNG with various hydrogen ratio in SNG, heat input and equivalence ratio in a partially premixed model gas turbine combustor. NOx emission was similar to each hydrogen ratio and flame characteristics was investigated from OH chemiluminescence images. There was a singularity of CO emission in stoichiometric condition and it can be identified using OH chemiluminescence intensity. In addition, dilution effect was studied in using nitrogen and carbon dioxide as diluent to reduce the NOx emission. Carbon dioxide diluent was more effective to NOx reduction than nitrogen diluent because of its high diluent specific heat and its heat capacity.

  • This is conceptual study of vitiated air heater(VAH), the necessary ground test facility, for characteristics studies of scramjet combustion and development of scramjet engines. The VAH is one of various types which provided hot air to an intake or a combustion chamber of scramjet and it must use suitable fuel to get hot combustion gas and more similar mixture gas(vitiated air) to real air. In the study, foreign VAHs being capable of providing very high temperature were researched, and injectors for VAH using LNG(CH4) or hydrogen were designed conceptually to develop scramjet vehicle.

Fuel Consumption and CO2 Characteristics of HCNG Bus (HCNG 버스의 연비와 CO2 배출특성)

  • For the HCNG bus using fuel which is the mixture gas of hydrogen and natural gas, the fuel efficiency and $CO_2$ emission characteristics were analyzed based on the WHVC test results and compared with that of the CNG and diesel buses. $CO_2$ emission characteristics were also analyzed by contribution effects such as carbon emission factor and fuel consumption. As a result, the fuel economy of HCNG bus was evaluated to be 11.5% improvement compared to CNG bus, and it was also showed equivalent to diesel bus. In addition, the $CO_2$ emission of HCNG bus was reduced 20.4% and 34.5% compared to CNG bus and diesel bus respectively. It was concluded that the $CO_2$ emission characteristics were influenced by the carbon emission factor depending on fuel composition and the fuel consumption according to the engine performance.

An Analytical Study of Geologic Characteristics and Production- Related Problems of Beep Natural Gas Resources (심부 천연가스의 지질학절 부존 환경 특성과 생산관련 현안 문제점 분석 연구)

  • Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases and impurities such as nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide and a clean energy producing no pollution materials for combustion. Currently, the demand of the natural gas is rapidly increasing due to worldwide environmental problems. According to Hubbert's study in the past, the natural gas was predicted as rapidly depleted resources, and then the results led to high gas price and limitation of usage during 1980s. Afterward, the study of natural gas resources based on geology identified the additional natural gas resources that were not considered in Hubbert's study. They are unconventional gas, additional resources in the existed reservoirs, and natural gas in deep subsurface areas. Such additional resouces made the future of natural gas bright and pormised low and stable gas price in the future. Deep natural gas is defined as the gas existing at or below 15,000ft$(4,752{\cal}m)$ in depth from the surface. According to the study from the U.S. Geological Survey(USGS) in 1995, 1,412 TCF of technically recoverable natural gas was remained to be discovered or developed in the onshore of United States. A significant part of that resource base, 114 TCF, exists at deep sedimentary basins, and it shows wide distribution with various geological environments. In 1995, the deep gas contributed to $6.7\% of total supply amount of natural gas in the United States and is expected to be $18.7\% by 201.5. However, the development of the deep gas is a high risky business due to expensive investment and high portion of dry holes, although it is developed. Thus, for developing the deep gas economically, it is necessary to overcome many technical challenges. In this paper, for increasing success rate of the deep gas, 1) geologic and compositional characteristics, and production cost have been analyzed according to depth, 2) technical problems related to deep gas production have been summarized, and 3) finally future study areas for increasing application of the deep gas have been suggested. For reference, this paper was written based on the study results from USGS and Gas Research Institute(GRI), for the United States is doing the most active R&D in the deep gas area, and thus, has many reliable data.

Emission Characteristics of HCNG Engine with Compression Ratio Change (압축비 변화에 따른 HCNG 엔진의 배기 특성)

  • Compression ratio is an important factor affecting engine performance and emission characteristics since thermal efficiency of spark ignition engine can be theoretically improved by increasing compression ratio. In order to evaluate the effect of compression ratio change in HCNG engine, natural gas engine was employed using HCNG30 (CNG 70 vol%, hydrogen 30 vol%). Combustion and emission characteristics of CNG and HCNG fuel was analyzed with respect to the change of compression ratio at each operating condition. The results showed that thermal efficiency improved and $CH_4$, $CO_2$ emission decreased with the increase in compression ratio while $NO_x$ emissions were decreased at a certain excess air ratio condition. Higher thermal efficiency and further reduction of exhaust emissions can be achieved by the increase of compression ratio and the retard of spark timing.

  • CNG buses has contributed to improve air quality in cities. But it is difficult to meet the next emission regulations such as EURO-VI without the help of additional post-processing device. Hydorgen has higher flame speed and lower combustion temperature that make it thermal efficiency increase with leaner operation. Using hydrogen natural gas blend (HCNG) fuel is promising technology which can reduce $NO_x$ and $CO_2$ emissions for a natural gas vehicle. However, fuel flow rate of HCNG should be increased since hydrogen's energy density per volume is much smaller than natural gas. In the present study, the characteristics of fuel supply system and its applicability were evaluated in a heavy duty natural gas engine. The results showed that the potential of fuel pressure regulator and fuel metering valve had enough capacity with HCNG. Employed mixer did not affect the distribution characteristics of mixture.

  • 2020년까지 전 세계 수송에너지의 수요가 현재의 2배까지 증가할 것으로 예상되면서 석유 자원의 안정적 공급이 어려워지기 이전에 이를 대체할 수 있는 에너지원 개발이 시급하다. 이러한 노력의 일환으로 최근 들어 대두되고 있는 가스화용융 기술은 석탄 폐기물 등으로부터 합성가스를 생산하는 고청정 고효율 기술이다. 여기에서 생산되는 합성가스는 천연가스를 대체하여 전기 및 화학원료를 생산하기 위한 원료로 이용 가능하다. 폐기물로부터 가스화용융기술을 통하여 생산되는 합성가스로부터 DME(dimethyl ether)를 생산할 수 있다. 가스화용융기술로부터 생산되는 합성가스는 자체의 일산화탄소와 수소의 조성비가 DME를 합성하는데 적당하다고 알려져 있다. DME는 에너지원의 다원화와 대기오염 물질의 저감, 지구온난화 대응 등과 아울러 제 4세대 수송 연료로 부각되고 있다. DME를 합성하는 방법은 합성가스로부터 메탄올의 합성 단계를 거친 후 DME를 합성하는 간접법과 단일단계의 반응에서 합성가스로부터 직접적으로 DME를 합성하는 직접법이 있다. 현재는 화학 평형적 측면 경제적 측면에서 이점을 가지고 있는 직접법에 관한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. DME 직접합성법에서는 메탄올 합성 촉매와 메탄올 탈수촉매의 물리적 혼합에 의한 혼성촉매가 주로 이용되고 있는 것으로 알려져 있다 본 연구에서는 일산화탄소와 수소로 이루어진 합성 가스로부터 직접 DME를 생산할 수 있는 직접 합성 공정에 적용 가능한 고효율 촉매 기술을 개발하기 위해 상용촉매의 스크린 테스트를 수행하였다. 상용촉매로는 sud-chemi사에서 메탄을 합성 촉매와 탈수촉매를 각각 구입하였으며, 이들 촉매를 원하는 조성비로 물리적으로 혼합한 다음 반응온도 ($250-290^{\circ}C$) 압력 (30-50 atm), $H_2$/CO 몰비 (0.5-2.0) 등의 다양한 반응조건 하에서 스크린 테스트를 수행하였다.대장조영영상을 얻을 수 있어 대장암의 위치에 관한 정보를 삼차원적으로 제공하므로 대장암의 성상을 정확히 알 수 있는데 도움을 주었다.요인은 없는 것으로 사료된다. 이 중 2예의 CT에서 선상 혹은망상형의 음영을 보였다. 결론: 유방암 환자의 방사선 치료 후 CT 소견은 방사선 치료의 방법에 따라 폐첨부 혹은 폐의전면 흉막하 부위에 선상 혹은 망상형의 음영으로서 방사선 폐렴 혹은 섬유화 소견이다. CT는 단순 흉부 촬영보다 이상 소견의 발견이 쉽다.이러한 소견은 후에 합병될 수 있는 다른 폐질환의 감별 진단에 도움이 될 것으로 보인다.moembolization via the radial artery approach were involved in this study.   • 용융탄산염 연료전지(MCFC)는 $650^{\circ}C$에서 작동하는 고온형 연료전지 시스템이다. 이 시스템은 천연가스 등을 개질하여 생산된 수소를 바로 전기로 생산할 수 있는 시스템으로 열효율이 높으며, 현재 대체 발전시스템으로 각광을 받고 있다. MCFC는 개질방식에 따라 내부개질 방식과 외부개질 방식이 있다. 내부개질 방식은 수소를 생산하는 개질기가 스택내부에 장착된 형식으로 천연가스를 스택내부에서 개질하여 바로 전기를 생산하는 방식이다. 이 내부개질반응에 사용되는 촉매로는 알루미나에 담지된 니켈(Ni) 계열촉매이 주로 쓰이고 있다. 또한 내부개질촉매의 형태는 작은 원주형의 촉매형태로 성형되어 사용된다. 이 성형된 촉매의 크기가 바로 내부개질 스택의 크기를 결정하는 중요한 요소이다. 그래서 촉매의 크기는 되도록이면 작게 성형하는 것이 중요하다. 그러나 촉매의 크기가 너무 작으면 촉매를 성형하는데 큰 어려움이 생기게 된다. 본 연구에서는 니켈 촉매를 공침법이 아닌 균일용액침전법을 이용하여 제조하였으며, 이 촉매를 이용하여 지름이 약 2 mm 이하로 촉매를 압출성형하는 방법을 연구하였다. 먼저 요소(urea)를 이용한 균일용액침전법으로 촉매를 제조하였다. 최적의 촉매 합성조건을 살펴보기 위해서, 반응 온도를 80, 85, 90, 95, $100^{\circ}C$로 변화 시키면서 제조된 촉매의 특성을 살펴보았다. 그리고 촉매의 적절한 니켈 양을 알아보기 위해서 니켈의 양을 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 wt%로 변화 시켰으며, 조촉매로 사용되는 MgO 양을 5, 10, 15, 20 wt%로 변화 시켜서 제조된 촉매의 특성을 살펴보았다. 물성을 비교하기 위해서, X-선 회절분석(XRD) 및 TPR, 물리화학흡착을 하였다. 그 결과 침전반응온도가 $80^{\circ}C$에서 촉매가 가장 좋은 물성을 보였으며, 우수한 개질성능을 보였다. 그리고 촉매 활성물질인 니켈의 함량은 50 wt% 정도가 가장 적절한 함량이었으며, MgO의 함량이 15 wt%일 때 가장 우수한 물성과 개질 성능을 보여주었다. 이 촉매들은 공침법으로 제조된 상용촉매와 비교하였을 때, 보다 우수한 물성과 개질성능 보였다. 그래서 이 촉매를 균일침전법을 이용하여 대량으로 제조한 다음 압출성형 방법을 이용하여 촉매를 원주형으로 제조하였다. 먼저 제조된 촉매는 별도의 분쇄작업(볼밀 혹은 제트밀)을 거치지 않아도 입자사이즈가 약 $4{\mu}m$ 수준이 나오도록 촉매 제조조건을 조절 하였다. 그리고 소량의 Methyl cellulose(MC) 바이더와 물만 사용하여 촉매를 혼합한 다음 스크류 압출기를 이용하여 촉매를 성형하였다. 이 촉매는 지름이 약 2 mm 이하로 제조할 수 있었으며, 기계적 강도는 타정기로 성형한 상용촉매보다 우수하였다. 그리고 촉매 성능 또한 상용촉매와 비교하였을 때, 우수한 성능 보였다. MCFC용 내부개질 촉매로 균일용액침전법을 사용한 촉매가 적합하다고 판단되며, 압출성형에도 적합하다고 판단되었다.
