  • The catalytic combustor has the advantage of stable combustion under very lean conditions with low emissions of $NO_x$, CO and unburned hydrocarbon(UHC). Notwithstanding these advantages, the commercial application of the catalytic combustion has been delayed due to the complicated reaction process. For the stable operation of catalytic combustor, study on the combustion characteristics of the catalytic combustor is needed. So, in this study, numerical study on the propane combustion characteristics of the catalytic combustor with Pd-based catalyst is performed.

  • An experimental study of the combustion characteristics according to the equivalence ratio of hydrocarbon fuel/air premixture excited by ultrasonic standing wave are presented. The image of the propagating flame was acquired using a high-speed camera, and the combustion characteristics of each fuel were closely observed through image processing. it was conformed that ultrasonic standing wave has been found to stimulate the combustion reaction in the stoichiometric ratio.

  • In this study, we performed a numerical study of hydrogen/air combustion in the combustion chamber of an ultra micro gas turbine. The supply flow rate and equivalence ratio are used as variables, and the commercial computational fluid dynamic program (STAR-CCM) is used for the numerical study of the combustion. The flow rate significantly affects the flame position, flame temperature, and pressure ratio between the inlet and the outlet. The flame position is close to the outlet in the combustion chamber, and the flame temperature and pressure ratio monotonously increases with the supply flow rate. The change in the equivalence ratio does not affect the flame position. The maximum flame temperature occurs under stoichiometric conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is to search the temperature-rise time conditions for adequate reforming temperature region of hydrogen generation system. And we measured theexhaust gas at the exit of that system in order to know the combustion state of hydrogen generation system's combustor. We found the optimum condition of heat supply and temperature-rise time at well burned state. And the results were nearly same when the reactants were entered to each reactors. We will further consider the effects of temperature change near the exothermic reactors and find out hydrogen yield through reforming experiment.

  • Natural gas is one of the most promising alternatives to gasoline and diesel fuels because of its high thermal efficiency and lower harmful emissions, including $CO_2$. However, the possibility of partial burn and misfire makes the benefits of natural gas fueled engine worse under lean burn operation condition, Hydrogen addition can promote the combustion characteristics while reduces emissions extremely. In this study, the effect of hydrogen addition on an engine performance was investigated. The results showed that thermal efficiency was increased due to the expansion of lean operation range under stable operation. NOx emission can be significantly reduced with the small increase in HC or CO emissions.

  • 환경문제와 석유자원의 고갈이 많은 연구자들을 기존 탄화수소연료를 대체할수 있는 재생 가능한 연료를 구하는데 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 수소연료는 유해배기물질이 없는 연소와 또한 연소후에 재생 가능한 물성분만 배출하는 속성으로 미래의 청정에너지로 각광을 받고 있다. 이러한 이유로 수소연료는 수송기계의 연료로도 주목을 받고 있다. 따라서 수소연료기관 개발은 21세기에도 지속적으로 진행될 것이다. 이에대한 초기연구로 기체 LPG 연료가 아닌 액체 LPG 연료를 흡기관에 분사하여 기화된 LPG 연료를 엔진으로 흡입하는 LPi엔진에 수소연료를 과급하여 엔진에 성능을 연구하고자 하였다.

  • As an effective utilization of biomass, organic wastes and coal, attention has been made to use syngas to a reciprocating engine to generate power. However, significant component variation of syngas depending upon origin and gasification conditions, and its lower heating value than that of LPG and CNG can create difficulties in stable engine operation. Thus it is necessary to address these issues in order to successfully develop power generation engines. As a primary step to resolve these problems, effects of H2 content variation in syngas on engine performance and emission characteristics were discussed in this study. The results show that as H2 % in syngas increases, more stable combustion was achieved with retarded MBT spark timing and engine efficiency becomes maximum with syngas of 10% H2. In addition, NOx emission increased while THC emission decreased as H2 % rises in the syngas.

  • Operation conditions for the generation of an HF laser driven by fluorine-hydrogen combustion were discussed by mc:asuring the intensities of excited HF* molecules. Optimum injection quantities of fluorine gas for the generation of fluorine atoms was two times the injection mole number of hydrogen fuel. Slit nozzles with two dimensional configuration were used for the production of excited HF* molecules. When the injection mole number of secondary hydrogen gas is 1.3 times the injection mole number of fluorine gas, the fluorescence intensities of excited HF* molecules show maximum values. alues.
