Joints on concrete road prevent failure and crack securing the moderate space when concrete slab expands and contracts as a function of varying temperature throughout all seasons. Filling joint sealants in joints can prevent the interruption of slab movement and failure due to the infiltration of alien substances, and also can prevent crack caused by freezing and thawing and Dowel bar corrosion resulted from water - rainfall and snowfall infiltration through the inside the pavement. They lead to the improvement of the commonality of road. This paper evaluates physical strength, weatherability and deicer resistance of a two-year aged sample from joint on concrete road and its virgin sample. It was found that there are significant differences in aspects of weatherability and adhesive force between the tested sample and silicon materials.

Reinforcement corrosion is generally prohibited under normal condition by the alkalinity of the pore water in the concrete. However, concrete structures in marine environment are subjected to chloride attack due to the high salinity of the sea water. Thus the probability of steel corrosion becomes higher when the chloride ions are introduced into the concrete. Steel corrosion is a decisive factor for the determination of service life of the marine concrete structure because chloride ions are abundant in the sea, and piers are the typical construction elements in concrete structures in marine environment. Hence, it is of great importance to evaluate the service life of the piers. In this paper, chloride penetration analysis for the rectangular pier in the marine environment is performed considering the diffusion and convection movement of chlorides. Result reveals that the service life of the reinforcement with drying-wetting cycles is much shorter than that of the reinforcement with saturated condition. This may be due to the fact that moisture movement is much faster that chloride diffusion.
Finite element analysis was undertaken to investigate the effect of freezing force of water unexpectedly penetrated into inserts used in railway sleeper on pullout capacity of anchor bolts for fixing base-plate onto concrete sleeper. Based on the in-situ investigation and measurement of geometry of railway sleeper and rail-fastener, the railway sleeper was modeled by 3D solid elements. Nonlinear and fracture properties for the finite element model were assumed according to CEB-FIP 1990 model code. And the pullout maximum load of anchor bolt obtained from the model developed was compared with experimental pullout maximum load presented by KRRI for verification of the model. Using this model, the effect of position of anchor bolt, amount of fastening force applied to the anchor bolt, and compressive strength of concrete on pull-out capacity of anchor bolts installed in railway sleeper was investigated. As a result, it is found that concrete railway sleepers could be damaged by the pressure due to freezing of water penetrated into inserts. And the pullout capacity of anchor bolt close to center of railway is slightly greater than that of the others.

본 연구에서는 HSPF(Hydrological Simulation Program: FORTRAN) 모형을 이용하여 LID 시설 내에서의 저류현상을 구현하고 수문요소에 대한 영향을 분석하고자 한다.

Developed is a chloride penetration analysis program in which changes of environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity and external chloride concentration, and the diffusion, convection and binding of chlorides are considered. In order to consider the changes of environmental conditions, analyses for temperature and moisture distribution are implemented simultaneously, and variation of diffusion coefficients due to temperature, humidity and age is also considered. By comparing the calculated total chloride contents with some experimental data, it has been confirmed that the proposed analysis program can trace measured chloride distribution well. Also, through some example analyses, the mechanism of accumulation of chlorides at near surface and acceleration of corrosion of steel reinforcement in case that the moisture distribution changes according to repeated drying and wetting cycles have been verified.
Geophysical survey for establishing a wide site for the distribution of water content, wetting front infiltration due to the rainfall, and distribution of groundwater level has been performed by using 8round penetration radar (GPR) method, electrical resistivity method, and so on. On the other hand, a narrow area survey was performed to use a permittivity method such as time domain reflectometry, frequency domain reflectometry, and amplitude domain reflectometry methods for estimating volumetric water content, soil density, and concentration of contaminant in surface and subsurface. The permittivity methods establish more corrective physical parameters than different found survey technologies mentioned above. In this study for establishment of infiltration behaviors for wetting front in the unsaturated soil caused by an artificial rainfall, soil physical parameters for volumetric water content, pore water pressure, and pore air pressure were measured by FDR measurement device and pore water pressure meter which are installed in the unsaturated weathered granite soil with different depths. Consequently, the authors were proposed to a new establishment method for analyzing the variations of volumetric water content and wetting front infiltration from the responses of infiltrating pore water in the unsaturated soil.
For the propose of increasing the value added, zeolite powder was granulated by adding Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) as cementing material. The optimal concentration of PVA for granulation and the physical properties of the prepared granule were investigated. Four percent PVA stock solution was made by adding distilled water at $90^{\circ}C$ water bath and incorporated with zeolite. The contents of water stable granule above 2.0mm in diameter was 98.0% in the case of 0.3% PVA addition and almost 100% in the case of 0.6% PVA addition. Increasing PVA concentration of granules increased the hardness and decreased the infiltration rate and the maximum water holding capacity of granules, However, the drying method hardly affected the physical properties of granules. With the increase in the mixing ratios of kaolinite or bentonite to zeolite, the hardness of granules increased but high water contents of granules resulted in rapid decrease in the hardness of granules. However, when smectite or perlite was mixed with zeolite, the increase in mixing ratios to zeolite resulted in the decrease in hardness, the increase in the infilteration rate and maximum water holding capacity of granules.
As a part of durability improvement of concrete-structure, penetrating water repellency of liquid type is applied to concrete surface. Besides, a related standard is made recently, but the standard has been prescribe for initial settlement state of penetrating water repellency of liquid type, to the exclusion of performance variation depending time and outdoor environment factor. For measurement of performance variation, we measured the weight of outdoor exposure specimen every regular intervals and check a measured value against a measured value of different condition specimen. Moreover, after the application of penetrating water repellent, measured a adhesive strength in tension between cement-polymer modified waterproof coatings and surface of specimen. The applied penetrating water repellent is a emulsified silicon type with a deep penetration depth. In view of the results so far achieved, the more a Quantity of application and active solid content does get, the deeper penetrating water repellency of emulsion type Penetrate get longer and supplied moisture increase in quantity, a penetrating water repellency of liquid type penetrates more deep, but a quantity of water absorption increase gradually. Perhaps this result is caused by a reduction of active solid content on concrete surface, because active ingredient is moved into the concrete by dissolution.

Soil moisture is one of the essential components in determining surface hydrological processes such as infiltration, surface runoff as well as meteorological, ecological and water quality responses at watershed scale. This paper discusses soil moisture transfer processes measured at hillslope scale in the Gwangneung forest catchment to understand and provide the basis of stochastic structures of soil moisture variation. Measured soil moisture series were modelled based upon the developed univariate model platform. The modeling consists of a series of procedures: pre-treatment of data, model structure investigation, selection of candidate models, parameter estimation and diagnostic checking. The spatial distribution of model is associated with topographic characteristics of the hillslope. The upslope area computed by the multiple flow direction algorithm and the local slope are found to be effective parameters to explain the distribution of the model structure. This study enables us to identify the key factors affecting the soil moisture distribution and to ultimately construct a realistic soil moisture map in a complex landscape such as the Gwangneung Supersite.

An agrivoltaic system (AVS) is a combined system that generates power through photovoltaic panels (PVPs) installed above a field where a crop is cultivated. Although soil moisture is an important limiting factor for open-field crop production, particularly during spring season in Korea, it is not well considered in the utilization of AVS. Indeed, the application of water-energy-food nexus on the AVS should be necessary. In this study, the changes of soil moisture and temperature under the AVS was investigated in fallow paddy field during spring season. The AVS that has partial shading condition by PV panels was decreased soil temperature and increased soil moisture compared to open-field. Furthermore, the maximum of the change in soil moisture to the change in soil temperature had a negative correlation both on open-field and AVS under wet condition. It represents that the micro-climate under the AVS is in energy-limited condition. The open-field of relatively high soil temperature was in water-limited condition. The different behavior of soil moisture on the AVS should be considered for the sustainable agricultural system as related to water-energy-food nexus.
