  • A ribbed tube consumes more power to transport the fluid by comparing with flat one. After the tangential velocity component occurs, its contact area with the ribbed tube becomes large and it enables the effective energy transportation. The flow characteristics vary according to the geometry of tube rib. This study aims to investigate the flow characteristics of fluids working at Reynolds numbers of 20,000, 40,000, 60,000 and 80,000 with the air at $15^{\circ}C$ in the ribbed test tube high 1mm and wide 8.48mm. As the flow characteristics are included with the states of fully developed hydrodynamical region, axial velocity vector distribution and non-dimensional velocity distribution, they are shown with the physical validity.

  • This paper discusses hydrodynamic characteristics of cold circulating fluidized bed(CFB) in different solid mass inventories. Operating parameters of solid mass inventory, primary air and J-valve fluidizing air were varied to find out the effect on the flow fludization pattern. Experimental measurements were made in a 3m tall CFB that has 0.05m riser diameter and black silica-carbonate of particle sizes from $100{\mu}m$ to $500{\mu}m$ were employed as the bed material. The operating conditions of superficial gas velocity and J-valve fluidizing velocity were in the ranges of 1.39~3.24 m/s and 0.139~0.232 m/s respectively. The axial solid fraction and solid circulation rate of CFB were observed and compared with modelling through IEA-CFBC Model and commercial CFD code.

  • A rectangular type circulating fluidized bed (CFB) with an internal nozzle and two partition walls was proposed. In this modified CFB, an internal nozzle and two slanted partition walls were additionally set in the riser. This cold mode apparatus was made of acrylic resin; the riser was 1500mm high and $1000{\times}1000mm^2$ in the cross sectional area, the internal nozzle was 200mm high and 10mm in the inner diameter, and the partition wall was 7mm thick. Glass beads of $91{\mu}m$ in the mean diameter were employed as bed materials. In the cold mode by using the proposed CFB with an internal nozzle, it was possible to change the particle hold up by changing the gas flow ratio of the nozzle to the total(Qn/Qt). It was found that the inflection point which devided the bed structure between the dense and the dilute phase in the riser varied with Qn/Qt.

  • The Kaplan turbine model has been tested and analyzed. The blade angle and the guide vane opening of the turbine model were designed to be varied according to the best combination of guide vane and runner blade opening. When the changes in head and output were comparatively large, the efficiency drop were small, so the efficiency characteristics and stability of the entire operating condition were maintained in good condition. These results showed that the developed model in this study will be suitable for small hydropower stations with large changes In head and load such as agricultural reservoir.

  • The distributions of the SMD and behavior of 2% $NH_4H_2PO_4$ spray discharged from a fan-spray twin fluid type nozzle are measured and observed. The spray characteristics, according to the variation in the applied voltages, are demonstrated using the PMAS (particle Motion Analysis System) and the CCD camera, respectively. The preliminary experiments are executed to select an optimum condition for solidifying a galvanized coating layer in the uncharged condition before carrying out the main experiments. The liquid and air pressure of $0.07kgf/cm^2\;and\;0.15kgf/cm^2$ can be considered the optimum conditions to use in the main experiment. As the applied voltage increases, the frequent range of relatively large droplets diminishes. Thus, the distributions of drop diameter in the charged spray are more uniform than these in the uncharged condition. This is explained by recognizing that repulsive forces among droplets with the charges of the same sign cause them to be uniform.

  • This study was performed to explore the liquid breakup and atomization characteristics for the classification of drop formation mode and background of uniform droplets generation in electrohydrodynmaic atomization according to the change of experimental parameters such as nozzle material (stainless steel. teflon). fluid flow rate, applied electrical field and intensity, and frequency. In results, from the classification map of drop formation modes according to the variation of applied AC voltage and frequency at a stainless nozzle, the droplet size was smaller than the outer diameter of the nozzle tip relatively in the spindle mode. The transition points became clearly to be moved toward the high applied voltage by rising the applied AC frequency beyond 450Hz. Also the droplet radius can be observed quite small in the frequency bandwidth of $350{\sim}450Hz$. The droplet radiuses decrease as the applied voltage increases for a fixed applied AC frequency within the range from 50Hz to 400Hz Over 400Hz, the relation between the power intensity and the droplet size was not consistent with a continuous mechanism of liquid breakup. Thus, it is showed that the droplet size distribution using the teflon nozzle was analogous to the results of stainless steel, but the droplet size was bigger than that of stainless steel relatively in case of a teflon nozzle.

  • In the present work, a series of experiments have been performed on electro-hydrodynamic atomization of non-conducting liquid using a charge injection type nozzle. Effects of liquid flow rate, input voltage, and distance between the needle and the ground electrode (nozzle-embedded metal plate) have been examined. For fixed electrode distances, total and spray currents increase with the increase of liquid flow rate and input voltage. When the distance between the needle tip and the ground electrode becomes closer, the total, leakage and spray currents increase, while the onset voltage for the dielectric breakdown decreases. When the electric field strength of the liquid jet exceeds that for the air breakdown, a portion of the electric charges in the liquid jet is dissipated into the ambient air, and the charge density shows a limiting value. Atomization quality can be improved by increasing the liquid flow rate due to the higher charge density and the enhanced aerodynamic effect.

  • The sudden discharge of the loop seal water, which is present upstream of the SEBIM POSRV, creates large momentum and inertia forces on the downstream of the discharge piping system. This study provides the procedures and results of analysis of the thermal-hydraulic transient in the SEBIM POSRV discharge piping during the valve opening. The analysis is peformed by RELAP5/MOD3. The appropriate modeling of the discharge piping system, SEBIM POSRV opening characteristics, and loop seal water discharge for the RELAP5/MOD3 analysis is suggested. Also performed is the sensitivity study for the selection of proper options for the junction and volume control. flags. The analysis results demonstrate the adequacy of the RELAP5/HOD3 for the thermal-hydraulic transient analysis of the loop seal water discharge of the SEBIM POSRV discharge piping system. From the sensitivity analysis results, it is shown that the smooth area change option with reasonable geometric pressure drop distribution, non-equilibrium option, and proper time step should be selected for loop seal water discharge analysis.

  • Fluidized bed reactors operated in subatmospheric pressure has been focused because several industrial applications such as vacuum drying and plasma cvd requires reduced pressure fludization. However, the hydrodynamics of fluidized beds in subatmospheric pressure has not been extensively investigated. The pressure drop in the fluidized bed has been measured with variation of downstream pressures from 1.33 to 101.3 kPa in the shallow and deep fluidized beds under the sub-atmospheric pressures. The obtained minimum fluidization velocity of powders is a function of pressure due to the changes of gas density and mean free path. We can experimentally determine the critical Knudsen number and the critical pressure to define the slip regime significantly to influence the hydrodynamics of fluidized beds.

  • This study deals with the numerical investigation on two-dimensional lubrication characteristics of micro-dimple shapes fabricated on solid surfaces by using the commercial CFD code (Fluent V.6.3) to examine the influence of micro dimple depth and width on the reduction in friction under the sliding plate condition. In addition, single and multiple dimple arrays are simulated, all for a fixed area fraction of dimple on the surface. As a result, it is found that the existence of micro-dimpled surface makes it possible to substantially reduce the friction forces exerted on the surfaces, and such an optimum dimple depth would be present because the dimple depth larger than the optimum value did no longer affect the reduction in shear stresses, indicating that the reduction of friction is likely to be associated with inner flows of lubricant inside dimples. Moreover, it is observed that at the fixed area fraction, the friction reduction increases with the increase of dimple diameter.
