The Effect of High Pressure Chamber's Shape on the Characteristics of Annular Jet Pump (고압실 형상에 따른 환형 제트펌프의 특성)

  • Experimental studies on the characteristics of annular jet pump were carried out in this paper. The effects of high pressure chamber on the characteristics of annular jet pump were sought in this paper. Experiments were done for three shapes of high pressure chamber, and for several lengths of the high pressure chamber. Three types of the high pressure chamber's entrances($90^{\circ}$ single inflow, $45^{\circ}$ single inflow, and $45^{\circ}$ double inflow) were tested. Water was used for both the primary fluid and secondary fluid. The results obtained in this study are as follows; $45^{\circ}$ double inflow type is the most effective among the tested three types of the high pressure chamber's entrances. The efficiency of jet pump with 400mm of high pressure chamber length is the highest among the chamber lengths tested in this study, thus indicating appropriate chamber length is required to get an efficient jet pump.

Update in varicella vaccination (수두백신의 최신지견)

  • Varicella, which is mostly a benign disease, but also can cause considerable health burden in the community, can be prevented by immunization with live attenuated varicella vaccine. Higher uptake of varicella vaccine by universal immunization in North America has apparently been associated with decline in the number of reported cases of varicella, varicella-related hospitalizations, and the number of deaths caused by complications of varicella. On the contrary, there has been some reluctance in endorsing varicella vaccine for universal immunization in most of European countries. Concerns include unanticipated outbreaks of varicella among vaccine recipients, risk of varicella among unvaccinated adults, risk of herpes zoster among vaccinees as well as unvaccinees. Recently developed measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella combination vaccine and herpes zoster vaccine that may be licensed in the upcoming years may be the solution for varicella vaccine to be utilized in a greater scale. In Korea several varicella vaccine products have been utilized since late 1980. The adoption of varicella vaccine for universal immunization since 2005 along with the changing view in varicella prevention strategy mandates more studies for immunogenecity and efficacy of varicella vaccines as well as more surveillance to delineate the changes in epidemiology of varicella in Korea.

  • Varicella is a highly infectious disease caused by the varicella zoster virus. The varicella vaccine was developed by Michiaki Takahashi in Japan in 1974. Despite the worldwide distribution of efficient vaccines, varicella vaccination policy is extremely variable from country to country. Although varicella vaccine is not currently recommended for universal vaccination in Japan, most countries throughout Europe, and developing countries, it had been introduced into Korea in 1988 and 20 years have elapsed since its use. Currently, varicella vaccine has been most extensively used in the United States where routine 2-dose vaccination program has been recently implemented for children. Recent 2-dose schedule in the United States and the availability of combination measles-rubella-varicella vaccines may lead to future varicella vaccination policy changes in many countries. With this background, this article summarizes the current status of varicella vaccination policies worldwide and presents provisional updated recommendation of varicella vaccination in Korea.

지하수 관측망과 다중패커시스템을 이용한 심부지하수 모니터링

  • 방사성폐기물 처분 연구의 일환으로 대전 유성북부 화강암 지역내 200~500m 심도를 갖는 9개의 심부 시추공이 착정되었으며, 이중 3개 시추공에 대하여 다중패커시스템이 설치되어 장기적으로 심도별지하수의 수리특성, 화학특성 및 동위원소 특성이 모니터링 되고 있다. 다중패커시스템이 설치되기 전의시추공 지하수의 수리 및 지화학 특성은 심도에 따라 별다른 특성이 보이지 않지만, 다중패커시스템 설치 후, 심도에 따라 특징적인 수리 및 지화학특성을 보여주고 있다. 또한, 다중패커시스템이 설치된 시추공의 경우, 최상부 구간을 제외하고 모든 구간 지하수의 수리화학특성은 일정기간이 경과한 후에는 각 구간별로 거의 일정한 값으로 유지되고 있음을 보여준다. 그러나, 지하수의 함양특성이 크게 변하는 우기 동안에는 지하수 수두압이 심도 약350m의 구간까지 변화되는 특성을 보여주고 있다. 동위원소특성 역시 심도구간에 따라 특징적인 값을 보여주며, 장기적으로 일정한 구간별 특정 값을 보여주고 있다.

A case report of pediatric patient with five retardations and five flaccidities caused by hydrocephalus (수두증으로 오지증(五遲症)과 오연증(五軟症)이 발생한 환아 1례)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a pediatric patient with five retardations and five flaccidities caused by hydrocephalus treated with oriental medicine. Methods : We performed an ambulatory treatment for him with herb medicine, acupuncture. And we measured grade of sitting, standing, walking, speaking. Results : The child's sitting, standing time increased from zero second to one-two minutes, and speaking improved. Conclusions : We report the good results of oriental medical treatment on this case. And this study requires further studies about five retardations and five flaccidities caused by hydrocephalus.

  • In this study, experimental and numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the performance of centrifugal pump with various air admitting conditions. Experiments on pump performance under air-water two-phase flow n accomplished using a centrifugal pump with semi-open type impeller having three, five and seven blades, respectively. Also, the numerical analysis of turbulent air-water two-phase flow using finite volume method has been carried out to obtain the pressure, velocities and void fraction on the basis of a so-called bubbly flow model with the constant size and shape of cavity. The results obtained through this study show the reasonable agreements within the range of bubbly flow regime. There are promising developments concerning application of the present study for the flow in a centrifugal pump with two-phase flow conditions and efforts must be followed to improve the turbulence model and two-phase flow model for turbomachinery.

  • For a detailed understanding of groundwater flow in rock mass, the effect of major fractures, topography and coefficent of permeability has been evaluated. The numerical model of GFFP-WT was used for the purpose. The results indicate that in the granite porphyry layer with a small permeability, the direction of flow path changes due to convergence of equipotential lines, while the travel time changes due to the presence of fractured in rock masses.

  • This study was performed to reveal the relationships between various gas supply conditions including inlet numbers and positions for Photobioreactor. To do that, this study was installed the experimental apparatus. All experiments were performed for the cases with 1, 2, 3, and 4 inlets and for gas flow rate of 4~8 lpm. Through the experiments, this study showed that the case with 3 or 4 inlets could reduce about 50% of the pressure loss head for all gas path than that of one inlet base case. So, these results can be used as basic data to design the gross or multiple photobioreactor.

유류오염 지역내 지층 특성이 지하수 수질에 미치는 영향 연구

  • 유류누출지역의 수리지질, 수리지화학 및 미생물 분석을 통하여 지층특성이 지하수 흐름, 수질 및 미생물 특성에 미치는 영향을 고찰한 결과 지표에서 심도 $1.8{\sim}3.5m$ 구간에 수십 cm에서 2m 정도의 두께를 갖는 투수성이 상대적으로 양호한 지층이 존재함을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 지층의 존재에 의하여 상하부의 지하수대의 수두차이가 현저함을 관측하였으며 유류 수송관에서 누출된 유류가 이 투수성 지층을 따라 이동하여 이 구간의 토양 및 지하수가 오염되었다고 판단할 수 있다. 지하수 수질은 이러한 지층의 특성에 따라 다른 이온성분 및 동위원소 특징을 보여주었으며 이는 다변량통계분석에 의해서도 확인할 수 있었다. 미생물 DGGE 분석결과 역시 유사한 특징을 보여주어 이러한 수리지화학, 수리지질 및 미생물 특징이 서로 밀접한 상관성을 보여줌을 확인할 수 있었다.

경북 고령군 다산면 충적층 강변여과 취수 현장에 대한 수리 모델링

  • 경북 고령군 다산면의 충적층 강변여과 취수에 따른 수위변화 모델링을 시도하였다. 단순화된 2가지 모델을 기본으로 하여 1일 평균 1만 5천톤의 상수도 공급 시, 일정수두 유지를 위한 연간 취수 계획 및 적정 취수량을 검토하였다. 한편, 질량 균형(mass balance)을 통하여 모델 검증 및 시기별 하천수와 지하수의 유입 비율을 예비적으로 산정하였으며, 투수계수와 함양량 변화에 따른 지하수위의 민감도를 검토하였다. 하천수 유입 비율은 시기별로 65∼85% 범위를 갖는 것으로 나타났으며, 지하수위는 함양량 변화에는 둔감한 반면, 투수계수에 대해서는 상대적으로 민감한 것으로 평가되었다.
