  • This study considers sustainability in new town development projects in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Since the mid-1980's the purpose of new Town projects in Japan changed from encouraging residential development to sustaining self-sufficiency within multi-functional cities. Nevertheless simultaneous increases in elderly population and declines in general population became the new town's key issue. Is this trend a general phenomenon in Tokyo? Has the multi-functional city policy failed? What policies can encourage new town self-sufficiency? Judging from this research, the new towns of Tokyo are relatively young areas with low aging rates and low rates of population decrease. Nevertheless, in view of the multi-functional city plan, levels of self-sufficiency and social-mix in most new towns are inadequate. Considering these, this research recommends new town plans be required to consider surrounding industries and the accessibility form CBD to encourage self-sufficiency. Moreover, The social mix plan encouraging residential diversity is important to the sustainability of the new town.

  • As the aging problem of the regional industry ecosystem has gradually become serious, research to measure and regenerate the regional industry ecosystem decline has been actively conducted. However, little research has been done on regional industry ecosystem crises. Crisis emerges radically over a short period of time, and it is often impossible to respond by post-response, so you must respond before the crisis occurs. In other words, it is more necessary and required when looking at the crisis early and taking a proactive response from a long-term perspective. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a predictive model that can proactively recognize and respond to the crisis in the regional industry ecosystem. Therefore, this study checked the possibility of predicting the risk of regional industry and market according to the emotional score of the news by using large-scale news data. News sentiment analysis was performed using the Google sentiment analysis API, and this was organized by month to check the correlation between actual events.

  • As the industrial paradigm shifts and the manufacturing industry declines, many changes also take place in the region as well. In this regard, interest in industrial heritage as a facet of cultural heritage is on the increase. In this paper, the meaning of regional 'cultural contents' as industrial heritage is investigated within the scope of specific region. It is meant to move beyond the viewpoint of considering industrial heritage as only relating to industrial machinery and relevant landmarks from the past. The concept of industrial heritage is established more clearly through the review policy and case study analysis of existing research; the analysis is conducted to investigate the characteristics associated with it, and then to explore how best to utilize it. In particular, this paper attempts to focus on how it operates within these parameters using a spatio-temporal context as much as possible, and concentrating on the recognition and experience of the subject of industrial heritage as being traceable through human story. This research is based on the case of 'Sapporo' which focuses on modern history based on historical importance, and the 'Cheongju' case study, which contrasts the former by focusing on urban regeneration using a spatial lens. This paper identifies the possibility of regional development through the examination of past identity and diversity in the present, and highlights the features that could be linked to future usability and development. In addition, it proposes the possibility that the cycle of regional development could change in the process of the different stages of territorialization, de-territorialization and re-territorialization.
