Experimental Study on the Nondestructive Evaluation of Udimet 720Li Disc (Udimet 720Li 디스크의 비파괴 평가에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Materials and parts required for nondestructive testing should be evaluated using with standard block. And it is ruled that standard blocks should be fabricated from same or similar material with test specimen. In order to manufacture and export materials and parts, quality assurance system should be required. In this paper, ultrasonic characteristics of ASTM 4340 steel ultrasonic standard block are investigated for nondestructive evaluation of udimet 720Li disc. Microstructures of udimet 720Li alloy are investigated using with optical and transmission electron microscope. Also ultrasonic transit time and attenuation are measured from high power ultrasonic analysis system with phase adjustment method. Conclusively, it is proved that 4340 steel ultrasonic standard block can be use for nondestructive evaluation of udimet 720Li disc.

Pressure Ripple Reduction in High Speed On-Off Solenoid Valves Driven by PWM Control (PWM 제어 고속 온-오프 전자밸브에서 발생하는 압력맥동 저감)

  • This paper investigates a fast, accurate and inexpensive hydraulic motor speed control system using high speed on-off solenoid valves. In order to retain the advantages of the two position valve and obtain better performance, the valves are operated by pulse width modulation(PWM) control. PWM signal is generated from a LabWIEW program in microcomputer in order to set up various duty ratio and frequency of carrier wave in PWM signal with varying system parameters. As the results of experiments, the speed control of a hydraulic motor was successfully implemented using on-off solenoid valves. In order to attenuate the pressure ripple and speed variation due to discontinuously controlled flow through the on-off valves, a resonator hose fabricated for automobile power steering system was connected between the valve and a hydraulic motor. From experimental results obtained in the hydraulic motor system with a resonator hose, it was ascertained that the resonator hose showed excellent performances in reducing pressure ripple and motor speed variation.

Review on $M_L$ Scales in Southern Korea (한반도 남부의 지역규모식 검토)

  • The local magnitude scales yield in the Southern Korean Peninsula following the Richter's original definition are reviewed. In order to compare the previous ML scales, the new distance correction term of ML scale is derived as - log A 0 = 1.017 log ( r/17) + 0.00028 ( r-17)2 + 2 .0 using broadband velocity seismograms from 126 local events occured from 2000 to 2004. The attenuation rate of this formula fall between those of western and eastern North America. This result is in nearly accord with the ML scales proposed by Kim and Park(2002). The differences between various ML scales is owing to insufficient seismic data not to distribute whole area of Southern Korea.

  • Properties of both photoluminescence and long-phosphorescent for Eu, Dy-codoped $SrAl_2O_4$ powder phosphor synthesized by solid reaction method were investigated by PL instrument. Two intense peaks in the emission spectrum measured at 10 K are observed near 450 nm (2.755 eV) and 520 nm (2.384 eV) wavelength, but at 300 K the main peak of 520 nm wavelength is presented. After the removal of light excitation (360 nm), the excellent after-glow characteristic of the phosphorescence were obtained as a result of low decay tiem, although the after-glow intensities of phosphor vary exponentially with the times.

  • Vibration-controlled concrete has been developed by using various concrete mixtures, such as latex, rubber powders, plastic resins and polystyrene(styrofoam). As part of the recycling research of obsolete aged tires and plastic materials, various vibration-reducing mixtures are used for 10 concrete panels having above 200 kg/cm$^2$ in uniaxial compressive strength. Plywood box with sand uniformly saturated by the raining device has been used for the analysis of the impact wave, of which data have been transfered by the FFT technique to comparatively investigate damping ratios of 10 concrete panels.According to wave propagation analysis on vibration-controlled concrete for this research, it can be concluded that Latex concrete has relatively larger damping ratios than those for noncontrolled normal concrete in a similar compressive strength

  • Squeal noise is a typical brake noise that is annoying to both passengers and pedestrians. Its frequency range is fairly wide from 1 kHz to 18 kHz, which can be distressful to people. The brake squeal noise occurs due to various mechanisms, such as the mode coupling of the brake system, self-excited vibration, unstable wear, and others. In this study, several parameters involved in the generation of a squeal noise are investigated experimentally by using a brake noise dynamometer. The speed, caliper pressure, torque, and friction coefficient are measured as functions of time on the dynamometer. The contact pressure and temperature distributions of the disc and the pad are also measured by using a thermal imaging camera and a pressure mapping system. As a result of the simultaneous measurement of the friction coefficient and squeal amplitude as functions of the velocity, it is found that the onset of the squeal may be predicted from the ${\mu}-v$ curve. It is also found that a non-uniform contact pressure causes instability and, in turn, a squeal. Based on the analysis results, design modifications of the pad are suggested for improved noise characteristics.

  • In general, pulsation damper is installed in fuel rail for conventional MPI engine to decrease undesirable noise in vehicle cabin room. However, pulsation damper is so expensive that there are prevailing studies to reduce fuel pressure pulsations with integrated damping effect. This paper is one of basic studies for development of fuel rail to abate pulsations with self-damping effect. Primarily, the pressure pulsation characteristics was investigated with aspect ratio of cross section, wall thickness, and materials of fuel rail. A high aspect ratio or thin wall was found to absorb the pressure pulsations effectively. But volume effects on the fuel pressure pulsation reductions were not especially significant than cross section effects because volume increment rate is larger than pressure pulsation reduction rate. The fuel rail made of aluminum is effective for reduction of pressure pulsation than that of low-carbon steel. Pressure change period increases on the basis of same lengths of supply line and fuel rail as the volume is enlarged and/or the thickness of wall is thinned.

  • In these days, the design of a structure for reducing or eliminating noise and vibration is getting more important, as the social demands for reducing environmental pollution rise. In this paper, the basic concept and performance verification test results of the recently developed vertical vibration isolator are presented. The isolator attenuates vibration using the damping action from the friction plane made of PTFE and provides the restoring force from the polyurethane springs arranged in vertical and horizontal directions. The performance verification tests consist of a test for identifying performance change during load rate variation and a test for confirming the force-displacement relationship assumption in vibration force range.

  • 본 논문은 KTX36호(300km/h) 운행시 수집된 검측데이터를 효과적으로 분석하여 유지보수에 활용하기 위한 단락전류의 반파장주기(${\lambda}$/2)에 관한 연구수행 결과를 나타낸다. KTX36호는 현재 하나의 객실을 검측차로 개조하여 운행속도에서 각종 검측을 수행하고 있다. 우리나라의 고속선 궤도회로는 프랑스의 궤도회로와 달리 토공, 교량, 터널 구간으로 나뉘어 있으며, 상용전원 주파수도 프랑스는 50Hz, 우리나라는 60Hz를 사용하고 있어 정보전송을 위해 사용하는 반송주파수도 다르다. 또한 특성임피던스 와 감쇠정수/위상정수를 결정짓는 중요한 변수인 선로정수(R,L,G,C)가 다르기 때문에 KTX36호의 단락전류에 대한 반파장주기(${\lambda}$/2)는 검측데이터를 활용한 유지보수에 있어 매우 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 논문에서는 프랑스에서 사용하는 단락전류의 반파장주기 (${\lambda}$/2)에 대해 언급하고 연구결과 산출된 국내 단락전류의 반파장주기(${\lambda}$/2)를 비교하였다.

Large Eddy Simulation of Free Motion of Marine Riser using OpenFOAM (오픈폼을 활용한 자유진동하는 라이저 주위 유동의 LES 해석)

  • In this study, the free motion of a riser due to vortex shedding was numerically simulated with Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) turbulence models. A numerical simulation program was developed by applying the Rhie-Chow interpolation method to the pressure correction of the OpenFOAM standard solver pimpleDyMFoam. To verify the developed program, the vortex shedding around the fixed riser at Re = 3900 was calculated, and the results were compared with the existing experimental and numerical data. Moreover, the vortex-induced vibration of a riser supported by a linear spring was numerically simulated while varying the spring constant. The results are compared with published direct numerical simulation (DNS) results. The present calculation results show that the numerical method is appropriate for simulating the vortex-induced motion of a riser, including lock-in phenomena.
