Research to Minimize Endoscope and Objective-lens Sensitivity Using Multi-configurations (다중 구성을 이용한 내시경 및 대물렌즈 광학계 공차 민감도 최소화 설계 기술)

  • Recently, lens manufacturing and assembly technology has greatly improved. However, tight requirements of manufacturing and assembly lead to an increase in cost and manufacturing time, and in some cases the performance of an optical system may deteriorate depending on the operating environment's conditions, such as temperature or vibration. In addition, the use of a compensator is an effective method to reduce sensitivity in an ultra-precision optical system, but in the case of a small lens, such as that in an endoscope, it is difficult to use a compensator due to the size limitation of the lens barrel. Therefore, minimizing lens sensitivity is the most important technology in lens design. For this reason, there have been various attempts to reduce the lens sensitivity, and there is a trend to add functions to reduce the sensitivity in the lens design S/W. In this paper, we introduce a design technology that minimizes lens sensitivity. We first design a lens with quite good performance, then analyze the sensitivity of this lens, make a multi-configuration with high-sensitivity element error, and then reoptimize it. We prove with an example that this design technique is very effective.

  • VGA급에서 1.3메가, 그리고 2메가급의 휴대폰용 카메라제품이 속속 등장함에 따라 작업자의 육안검사에 의존하던 카메라모듈의 초점검사공정에서 다양한 Vision 및 소프트웨어를 이용한 자동화 설비의 개발 수요가 급증하고 있다. 당사에서는 이미 약 2년 전부터 이와 같은 시장의 추세를 예측하여 별도 변환렌즈를 통한 자동포커스 조절 시스템의 구현을 통해 메가급 이상의 다양한 휴대폰용 카메라모듈의 변화에도 유연성 있게 대처할 수 있는 Autofocusing System을 자체 개발한바 있다. 따라서 본 고에서는 이 시스템 구현을 통해 실제 양산에 적용 가능한 제품을 소개하고자 한다.

Changes in Subjective/Objective Symptoms and the Light Transmissibility of Lens Associated with Overusage of Daily Disposable Circle Contact Lenses in Normal Eyes (일회용 써클소프트렌즈의 초과 착용에 의한 정상안의 자·타각적 증상 및 렌즈 광투과율의 변화)

  • Purpose: This study was assessed to investigate the change of subjective and/or objective symptoms and the light transmissibility of lens caused by over-usage of daily disposable circle contact lenses (circle lens). Methods: Three daily disposable circle lenses made of etafilcon A, hilafilcon B, and nelfilcon A were applied on 20 normal eyes free from any eye diseases by when subjects complained any kind of discomfort. On the first and the last days of lens wearing, subjective discomfort, blinking rate, non-invasive break-up time, lens centration on corneal surface and visible light transmissibility of lens were recorded at every case and compared. Results: The circle lens wearers complained discomfort when they wore the circle lens more than 15 hours, in excess of 8 hours being the recommended wearing time and the most circle lens wearers quit the lens wearing when they wore more than 30 hours. On the last day of lens wearing, the representative subjective discomforts were stiffness, dryness and tiredness. When the subjects wore circle lens more than the recommended time, a tendency of increased blinking rate and decreased NIBUT was observed when it compared with the values right after lens wearing. On the last day of lens wearing, the lens centration was shown to be decentrated from the pupil center compared with the centration right after the wearing. These changes in lens centration and blinking rate were consistently shown in all cases of lens wearing however, the difference in the degree of subjective and/or objective change was present depending on lens materials and subjects. The visible light transmissibility of circle lens has largely been changed. Conclusions: From these results, it was thought that the decreased NIBUT induced dryness and stiffness and decreased visible light transmissibility caused more blinking when daily disposable circle lens was exceedingly used, which provoked lens decentration and subjective discomfort. However, the difference of subjective and/or objective change was largely varied in accordance with the lens material types and individuality and thus it may occur some unexpected problems by the individual base. Therefore, the education about the necessity to comply with the recommended wearing time and the problem will be essential.

The Effect of Hair Spray on the Fitting of Contact Lenses (헤어스프레이가 콘택트렌즈의 피팅에 미치는 영향)

  • Various kinds of aerosols such as a mixture of hairspray resin and its solvents, a perfume, a soap water, and ask in-lotion were sprayed onto the contact lens which was mounted on the eye-model made of wood, varying the parameters as the distance between nozzle and contact lens and the spraying time duration. In the case of both the hairspray and the perfume including an ethanol as solvents, the shape of contact lenses has changed tremendously Jess than 1 minute after the exposure to the aerosol particles and then it continued until the lens surfaces were completely flipped over. Driving force for the lens distortion seems to be the expansion coefficient difference between the inner and outer surface of lens, which was caused by the heat of vaporization of ethanol included in the aerosol and subsequent temperature decrease induced on the lens surface.

The Difference of the Cleaning and Wettability-maintaining Efficacy of Lens Care Solution to RGP Lens (관리 용품에 따른 RGP 렌즈의 세척효과 및 습윤성 차이)

  • We investigated the question whether the efficacy of cleaning tear components on RGP lens and preserving the superior wettability of RGP lens depended on the different type of contact lens care system - RGP lens care solution, SCL care solution, combined solution both for SCL and RGP lens or saline solution. The removal efficacy of the deposited protein was examined by Lowry protein assay and Scanning Electro Microscope(SEM) and residual lipid concentration on RGP lens was determined by High Pressure Liquid Chromatology(HPLC). Wettability was assessed with an equilibrium water-in-air contact angle method. When cared by RGP lens solution, it was demonstrated that 62 percent out of the adhered protein on RGP lens were removed and the removal efficacy of RGP lens solution was not only 4 times than saline solution and the alternative but also higher twice than SCL solution. Contrarily, the SCL solution had the most excellent removal efficacy of the adhered protein on SCL. These results suggest that the cleaning efficacy is thought to be affected by the other factors like the viscosity of care solutions, which mutual contact between RGP lens and care solutions is on the increase due to the viscosity enhancer in RGP lens care solution. RGP lens solution had the greatest removing efficacy to cholesterol and the residual cholesterol concentration was decreased to 50%. It is significant for RGP lens to preserve the superior wettability which means the predictive value for comfortable wearing and it showed that the RGP lens solution offered the most excellent efficacy to maintain the surface wettability. Combined solution both for SCL and RGP lens had weak efficacy of cleaning and maintaining wettability for RGP lens compared to RGP lens care solution.

Distortion Correction of Boundary Lines in a Tunnel Image Captured by Fisheye Lens (어안렌즈 터널영상의 경계선 왜곡 보정)

  • Having a wide angle of view, a fisheye lens is useful for obtaining images of the inside wall of a tunnel. A circular fisheye tunnel image can be transformed into a familiar rectangular image by applying the concept of cylindrical projection. This projection transformation causes several types of distortions in the projected image. This paper discusses the distortion on the boundary lines between smoothly curved wall and flat ground. We analyzed the cause of this boundary distortion, developed transformation model, and derived a correction formular. A distortion correction software programmed in Visual C++ applied to projected image. Consequently, boundary-corrected image could be obtained. Research into other distortions of projected image will helpful in obtaining tunnel image that resembles real tunnel from fisheye tunnel image.

Relationship between the Deposition of Tear Constituents and the Adherence of Candida albicans according to Soft Contact Lens Materials and Pigmentation (소프트콘택트렌즈 재질과 착색에 따른 눈물성분 침착과 칸디다균 흡착의 상관관계)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to figure out how the characteristics of soft contact lens materials and pigmentation affect the adherence of C. albicans on soft contact lenses pre-deposited with tear constituents. Methods: The adherent number of C. albicans on clear soft contact lenses (hereinafter clear lenses) and circle soft contact lenses (hereinafter circle lenses) made of etafilcon A, hilaiflcon B and nelfilcon A, respectively, was measured before and after the deposition of artificial tear. Also, bacteria adherence on lenses were observed by a scanning electron microscope. Results: Adherence of C. albicans was significantly different according to lens materials. The amount of adsorption was not different between clear lenses and circle lenses made of etafilcon A however, the number of bacteria absorption was bigger in hilafilcon B and nelfilcon A lenses. More absorption of C. albicans was found in the non-pigmented central area compared the pigmented area, and non-pigmented peripheral area has more bacterial absorption than non-pigmented central area. The number of C. albicans decreased in the case that tear protein was pre-deposited. The maintenance of antibacterial activity against C. albicans was different according to lens materials thus, etafilcon A has the longest period of its maintenance. Conclusions: It was revealed that the number of C. albicans was different according to the characteristics of lens materials, pigmentation or non-pigmentation, the pigmented area of soft contact lenses. Thus, it is suggested that the management method should be different according to the adsorption characteristics of C. albicans.

Influence of Base Curve on the Fit of Soft Contact Lenses (소프트 콘택트렌즈의 피팅에서 베이스커브의 영향)

  • Lens centration was the fitting variable that was most dependent on base curve radius. Flatter lenses tended to decenter more. A flatter contact lens will likely have to move into the periphery to reach this point of stability. In most cases, the decentration was in the superior and/or temporal direction. It was also found that comfort complains were more common with flatter lenses. The optimal fits was highest with the 8.4mm base curve lens for all three ranges fit eyes decreased as base curve radius was increased. These lenses with steeper radii lead to better centration and therefore to better fit and comfort for more patients than do thin lenses with flatter radii.

업계기고 - 화성탐사선의 카메라 렌즈 설계

  • 17세기부터 시작된 인류의 화성탐사 역사는 광학 망원경의 발달과 함께 점점 발전하기 시작하면서 21세기에 이르러 마침내 화성에 무인 탐사선을 보내게 된다. 본고는 2012년 8월 성공적으로 화성에 착륙한 화성 탐사로봇 'Curiosity(큐리오시티)'에 탑재된 17개 카메라에 대한 설명과, 2004년 화성 탐사로봇에 탑재되었던 'Opportunity(오퍼튜니티)', 'Spirit(스피릿)'의 카메라 렌즈 설계에 대한 것으로 2006년 SPIE 출판사에서 출간한 'Camera Lenses FromBox Camera to Digital'의 발췌문으로 구성되어 있다. 미항공우주국(NASA)은 이들 카메라의 렌즈 설계를 위해 ZEMAX 광학설계 소프트웨어를 사용했으며, 국내에서도 많은 광학 설계 엔지니어들이 ZEMAX를 사용하고 있다. 멀지 않은 미래에 대한민국의 광학설계 기술이 우주탐사 역사에 한획을 그을 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

A Correlation between Axis-Rotation and Corneal Eccentricity in Toric Soft Contact Lens Fitting in With-the-rule Astigmatism (직난시안에서의 토릭소프트렌즈 피팅 시 축 회전과 각막이심률과의 상관관계)

  • Purpose: A correlation between the rotating direction and rotation amount according to the eccentricity was analyzed in the present study when fitting the toric soft contact lens. Methods: One hundred fourteen eyes of with-the-rule astigmatism in 20s and 30s were appropriately applied toric soft contact lens by the guideline of manufacturer and fitting evaluations and analyzed the rotating direction and rotation amount when fixating at primary position and 8 different directions of gaze. The speed of reorientation and the correlation between the rotation amount and cornea eccentricity were also analyzed when rotating $45^{\circ}$ each toward the temporal and nasal direction. Results: The cornea eccentricity and rotation amount was shown positive correlation. For the gaze of direction, it was identified that the gaze of directions other than the gaze of direction towards the nasal and temporal had correlation, and among them, the gaze of directions to superior and the superior-temporal showed the tendency of decreasing rotation amount as the cornea eccentricity increased. On the contrary, the gaze of direction towards the inferior, inferior-temporal, superior-nasal, and inferior-nasal showed tendency of increasing rotation amount as the cornea eccentricity increased thus, it was identified that the cornea eccentricity showed different correlation according to the gaze of direction. For the case of re-orientational speed, the speed of lens reorientation in the group having the smallest corneal eccentricity was fastest in both direction but was not significantly different. Conclusions: Considering cornea eccentricity to current method of prescribing toric soft contact lens which is based on total astigmatism, it will be helpful to establish the optimal axis stabilization.
