Deep sedation is considered for the dental treatment of pediatric or disabled patients who have severe anxiety or involuntary movement. Deep sedation using sevoflurane inhalation in emergency dental practice, therefore, is also preferred for fast induction and recovery. This survey consists of 121 people with pediatric or disabled patients who underwent dental treatment under deep sedation using sevoflurane inhalation from January 2013 to October 2013. Patients who were scheduled for deep sedation were classified into a non-emergency sevoflurane sedation group, whereas patients who underwent emergency sedation due to trauma and patients with disabled characteristics itself were classified into an emergency sevoflurane sedation group. Of 121 patients studied, 95 patients received dental care under non-emergency sedation, 26 patients received dental care under emergency sevoflurane sedation. The two groups were analyzed according to: gender; age; primary reason for sedation; duration of sedation; treatment time; induction methods; treatment information; and departments. Non-emergency sevoflurane sedation in pediatric or disabled patients was safe and effective for controlling the behavior. Emergency sevoflurane sedation was a useful method for younger pediatric patients with traumatic injury who need simple, short time emergency treatment. Deep sedation using sevoflurane inhalation not only will reduce the use of general anesthesia gradually but also will be a useful method to emergency treatment for pediatric or disabled patients.
The Korean Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (KSPID) has participated in the task force team consisting of government authorities as well as civil medical experts and facilities to block the spread of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome in 2015. KSPID posted the "Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) Pop-up" in the homepage of The Korean Pediatric Society and The Korean Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. KSPID also released the "Guidelines for testing for MERS in children and adolescents" and the "Instructions for the Operation of National Safe Hospital" for children and adolescents in a timely manner. Such actions were aimed to prevent unnecessary anxieties, studies and isolation of pediatric patients with respiratory symptoms and signs caused by other common microbial etiologies as being suspected for MERS patients. This strategy relieved the doctors and parents from unnecessary fear and prevented the loss of unnecessary health care costs, and has proven to be a well-judged guideline and management protocol as evaluated after the final end of MERS outbreak. KSPID and its members should support the presence of pediatric infectious disease (PID) specialists in every medium size hospitals in Korea by developing the need for consultation fees for PID consultation in the hospital based practice and promoting the potential for cost savings related to prevention of health care associated infections and optimal prescription of antimicrobial agents. KSPID and its members need to approach and develop a communication plan to political decision makers to demonstrate and convince them of the importance of a PID specialist service.
Purpose: We compared the clinical manifestations of patients with tsutsugamushi disease between children and adults. Methods: From January 2003 to December 2012, 768 patients diagnosed with tsutsugamushi disease were retrospectively reviewed, and the clinical characteristics, laboratory findings, and complications were compared between children and adults. Results: No patterns of annual increases in the number of patients were noted in both children and adults. The higher incidences occurred in October and November respectively. By gender, male outnumbered female in children, but the opposite trend was seen in adults. By residential area, the urban distribution of children was higher than that of adults. Rashes (P =0.001) and eschar (P =0.004) were more common in children, while myalgia was more common in adults. Children had a high prevalence of anemia (P =0.041), and low incidence rates of thrombocytopenia, abnormal liver and renal function. Children yielded better results in the duration of their hospital stay and the incidence of complications (P <0.001). A comparison of the therapeutic effects of doxycycline and macrolide antibiotics, which was performed only on the children, did not reveal any significant differences. Conclusion: Compared to adults, children had higher incidence rates of male patients and more often suffered from rashes and eschar. Children yielded better results in the laboratory findings and duration of the hospital stay and complications. Therefore, when children are suspected to have tsutsugamushi disease, especially during its peak occurrence period, detailed physical examination and serological test should be performed to ensure a prompt diagnosis, and the use of macrolide antibiotics, which have fewer side effects, is expected to yield the same therapeutic effects.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of pediatric and adolescent patients who received sealant after health insurance coverage based on demographic factors such as gender, age, insurance type, care institution and region. Patient Sample Data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service were used for this study. A total of 8,454,636 patients' data were obtained from 2010 to 2017. Of these, 114,680 patients got sealant treatment. Females were more likely to receive sealant treatment than males. 5 - 9 year age group showed the highest number of patients and proportion of treatment. Patients with health insurance were more likely to receive pit and fissure sealant treatment compared to patients with medical aid program. The number of sealant patients and the proportion of sealant treatment were the highest in dental clinics, followed by dental hospitals and public health centers. The number of sealant patients were the highest in Gyeonggi and proportion of sealant patients were the highest in Jeonbuk.

The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the demographic characteristics of pediatric dental patients who underwent dental treatment under general anesthesia (DTGA) at the Seoul National University Dental Hospital from January 2011 through December 2020 and compare the patterns of repeated DTGA between dental patients with severe disabilities (DSD) and non-DSD (healthy or medically compromised patients without DSD). There were 1,857 DTGAs among 1,719 patients (mean age = 5.1 years; males = 59.3%; ASA 2 or above = 52.9%; DSD = 26.8%). Overall, 6.6% of patients underwent repeated DTGA, and the rate of repeated DTGA over a 10-year period was 7.4%. ASA 2 or above (p < 0.0001) and DSD (p < 0.0001) were more likely to undergo repeated DRGA compared to ASA 1 and non-DSD. At both GA1 and GA2, DSD received significantly more restorative treatment on permanent teeth than non-DSD (p = 0.002, p < 0.0001, respectively). There has been an increasing demand for DTGA in pediatric dentistry over the last 10 years. Regular check-ups and preventive oral health care are necessary for pediatric dental patients with severe disabilities to reduce the possibility of repeated DTGA.

This study was aimed to provide an epidemiologic study so that we could accommadate their orthodontic needs adequately and to obtain the reliable quantitative information regarding the characteristics of orthodontic patients who visited the Department of pediatric dentistry, Chonnam National University Hospital from 1986 to 1999, October. The results were as follows. 1 The total number of orthodontic patients were 1,381(male 658, female 723) and the number of annual patients showed irregular trend and the number of male were slightly higher than that of female. 2. According to the investigation made by age group, the group of under 5 years, 6 to 7, 8 to 9, 10 to 11, 12 to 13 and above 14 years showed 8.4%, 29.6%, 34.3%, 21.2%, 5.7% and 0.8%, respectively. 3. The patients corresponding to primary dentition were 15.7% of total patients and mesial step, distal step and flush terminal plane were 83%, 4.6% and 12.4% respectively. By the way 82% of mesial step had anterior crossbite at the same time. 4. The patients corresponding to Angle classification were 84.3% of total patients and Class I malocclusion, Class II div. 1, Class II div. 2 and Class III was 34.7%, 34.6%, 2.1% and 28.6%, respectively.

Chloral hydrate is one of the most widely used sedative agents to control the difficult to treat young age group in the dental clinic. We are often frustrated to see the patient still awake and cry with agitation even after far more than the normal onset time. In such a case, the patient has to be rescheduled for another sedation visit with different agents and/or routes which greatly disappoints the guardians. This case report presents a sedative regimen that can possibly help the clinician complete scheduled treatment without postponement. We have tried sleep induction with Enflurane (1-1.5vol%) for 60 seconds to 37 patients of those who failed to respond properly to the dose(70mg/kg)of oral Chloral hydrate. The average age and weight of the patients was 34.3 months(22-43mo.) and 14.9kg(11-21kg) respectively. It is suggested that sleep induction with low dose Eflurane produced a stable state during dental treatment with respect to vital sign and behavior. Evidence of adverse effect was not detected or reported during and/or after the procedures.

Interest in orthodontic treatment has increased. Consequently, the percentage of the orthodontic treatment in pediatric dentistry has also increased. Given this background, the purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics and the trends of pediatric orthodontic patients of Chonnam National University Dental hospital. A total of 670 patients (349 male, 321 female) diagnosed with orthodontic problems during the period from January 1st, 2004 to December 31st, 2014, were analyzed. The number of pediatric orthodontic patients was high in January, February, July and August. When it comes to age, the percentage of the patients who were eighty-years old accounted for the largest age group with 19.6%, followed by seven-year, nine-year, ten-year, eleven-year, and six-year old age groups. Skeletal class 1 accounted for 48.1% of the total cases, followed by class 2 (28.7%) and class 3 (23.3%). Mesofacial type accounted for 65% of the total cases, followed by dolichofacial type (19.3%) and brachyfacial type (15.8%). The period of the first phase orthodontic treatment was steadily shortened from 30.4 months in 2004 to 11.5 months in 2013. The result of this study is expected to provide information of the pediatric orthodontic patients.
In this paper, we analyze the quality of life of children and adolescents with cancer. Separated children and adolescents to treat more than 293 patients myeongreul quit two years to analyze the quality of life. In most previous studies it was to compare the quality of life of the patient to feel the parent to evaluate the quality of life in children and adolescents with cancer. Or It was common practice to evaluate Pediatrics as a group. However, to evaluate a wide range of ages of children and adolescents cancer patients as a basis, there is a problem. Therefore, in the paper according to the degree language understanding and 10 to 12 years old and 13-20 years old classified as two groups. In addition, we use KMMQL-AF questionnaires written in korean. Accurate across the 10 local hospital the experts have described the extraction accompanied by an in-depth interview research surveys for data collection (15.07.2011 - 01.31.2012).
