  • To conduct research using small group learning with advanced technology in school, small group collaborative learning was conducted in virtual reality called Second Life for high school history class to verify the effects of the role of group members (leader, group member) in collaborative learning activities in this study. Two classes of the second grade of high school were selected randomly and 20 groups were also randomly assigned, and each group was consisted of three members (1 leader and two group members). Academic achievement and satisfaction with academic activities were used to verify the effect of the role as measurement tools, and collected quantitative data were tested by independent sample t. As a result, it was found that performing the role of leader in collaborative learning activities in virtual reality was effective in promoting enhancing students' academic achievement and increasing satisfaction level. Lastly, utilization and improvement of small group collaborative learning using virtual reality in the field of education were discussed.

  • We propose an efficient information science teaching-learning method to improve information-scientific creativity of mathematically and scientifically gifted students. The students are able to improve their creative problem solving and team-work abilities through team project work to resolve a variety of application problem in real world. In the pursuit of this purpose, we designed a new two-stage information science learning method consisted of the standard stage and the application stage, and a new systemic project process. Moreover, we applied small-scale cooperation learning strategies and a multi-dimensional assessment system. The analysis on our proposed model shows that there is a remarkable achievement of educational objectives on cognitive capability, social and affective ability of information science creativity.

  • The downsizing of schools is accelerating due to a rapid decline in the school-age population, and as the crisis over regional and school disappearance increases, the need for smaller schools to respond to future educational needs is increasing. Through flexible curricula and digital/artificial intelligence-based classroom teaching improvements, students' satisfaction with school life, student creativity and character development, improved academic achievement, and strengthened cooperative communication capabilities will be observed, and teachers' teaching and learning methods will change. Educational effects such as these are important, and transforming school facilities into future-oriented spaces, including school space innovation, is required to accomplish them. This study examined the future of education systems in small schools, focusing on analyzing the educational effects and awareness of the sustainability of spatial innovation, in terms of school space changes, school education correlation, and smart environment, to develop innovation projects in small schools. A desirable direction for implementation is presented.

  • This paper aims to identify factors to elevate the effectiveness of a high school mathematics teacher's training program focused on the construction of test items, and to make a blueprint for the training program development of high school mathematics teachers. This study created and executed a teacher's training program, and then twice applied focus group interviews with the teachers who participated in the program. As a result, this study identifies four factors that elevate the effectiveness of a high school mathematics teacher's training program focused on the construction of test items: the structure of the training program that allows teachers to concentrate on constructing test items, the recognition and revision of their habits related to the construction of test items, the formation of a consensus among the participants, and self-reflection on the teachers' specialties in the construction of the test items.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the subjective perception types of college students majoring in cooking by applying flip-learning teaching and learning methods to the subject of cooking practice to improve the educational efficiency of cooking-related classes. Also, in order to study subjective perception of small students, we tried to grasp the common structure in subjective attitude and perception using Q methodology, and the analysis resulted in four types. Type 1 (N=5): Problem solving ability effect, Type 2 (N=6): Self-directed learning effect, Type 3 (N=3): Mutual cooperation practice effect, Type 4 (N=6) ): Theory learning effect was analyzed for each unique feature type. Flip-learning is applied to cooking practice classes, which is a learner-centered education that leaves the traditional teaching method. Interest was found to have a very positive effect on learners' opinion sharing and learning outcomes. However, it was revealed that all students need to find additional solutions to problems such as the operation plan for flipped learning and the free ride evaluation method in group learning.

  • Sustainability has already become one of the most important innovation policy agendas in many countries. Korea has tried to emulate this global trend in various forms, unfortunately with little success. A very strong tradition of centralized administration in Korea has meant that local communities and municipalities have remained more or less passive in tackling their own sustainability issues and problems. In recent years, with the impetus of huge democratization attempts in Korea since the late 1980s, there have been some local attempts to remedy these imbalances since the early 2000s. A series of local experiments to try and test green alternatives against the very hostile environment have been implemented, with varying degrees of success. This study analyzed cases of transition experiment to sustainable socio-technical system such as MUSIC project, Low Carbon Green Village and Citizens' Sunlight Power Stations. To draw politic meanings for sustainable socio-technical system, these content, process of conversion and feature were examined.

  • This is a case study on two schools practising integrated science education (hereafter ISE). The purposes of this study are to investigate the types and features of ISE in the schools actively practising ISE, to identify the contextual factors of the schools, and to give implications for implementing ISE in schools. This study investigated the contextual factors in practicing ISE with a focus on the two schools, a middle school in Gyeonggi-do and a high school in Busan. They were breaking down the boundaries among teaching subjects and providing student-oriented instruction with problems in the real world. The data were collected by observing classes, by interviewing teachers, and by reviewing school documents and students' reports. The research findings are as follows: first, the two schools took part in ISE actively. They teach science to students providing integrated experiences mainly by using interdisciplinary knowledge and/or by solving the problems pertaining to the real world. While the former integrated subjects centering on topics, the latter focused on a project-based learning driven by students. They have differences in regard to the role of teachers and students, the level of integration and the type of integration. Second, the contextual factors that enabled ISE to be implemented there were found. The previous studies revealed six contextual factors in practising ISE: small and stable learning environment, leadership, team activities, in-school planning time, flexible timetable and community links. This study also found similar factors. However, the cases of this study provided ISE on a large scale and in a short period of time, instead of a small and stable learning environment. Teachers viewed the process of ISE not only as a tool to overcome the conservative culture of teachers but also as a pursuit of innovation.
