Bionomics of Caloglyphus sp.(Acarina : Acaridae) (가루응애류 Caloglyphus sp.의 생태에 관한 연구)

  • Developmental characteristics and reproductive ability of Caloglyphus sp. were examined under the constant temperature conditions. This mites has five stages ; egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph and adult. All active instars preyed on larvae of pine gall midge, Thecodiplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye. The developmental period from the egg to the adult decreased with temperature increase at a range between $15^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$. The threshold of temperature and the thermal constant for the development from the egg to the adult were $8.2^{\circ}C$ and 122.0 day-degrees, respectively. At $25^{\circ}C$, survival rate from egg to deutonymph was estimated as 66.4%, and longevity of the adult was 12.3 days for male and 10.0 days for female. After a preoviposition period of 1 and 2 days female laid an average of 360.6 eggs each, almost all during the first half of their life time. The value of the net reproduction(Ro), the mean length of a generation(T) and the intrinsic rate of natural increase($r_m$) were calculated as 101.1, 9.3 days and 0.494 per female per day, respectively.

  • 목적: 일산화질소 (nitric oxide; NO)는 생식계를 비롯한 여러 생체내 기관에서 다양하고도 중요한 작용을 하는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 복강액은 난관내강과 연결되어 복강액 내의 세포 성분의 변화는 난관의 미세환경을 변화시켜 수정과 초기 배아 발생에 영향을 줄 수 있다. 본 연구는 배아 발생에 있어서 일산화질소의 역할을 이해하고 복강액 내의 NO농도 변화가 배아 발생에 미치는 역할을 조사하기 위해 수행되었다. 방법: 과배란시킨 1세대 잡종 암컷 생쥐 (C57BL${\times}$CBA/Ca)로부터 1세포기 배아를 얻어 10% synthetic serum substitute가 첨가된 modified human tubal fluid 배양액에서 4일 동안 체외배양하였다(대조군). 실험을 위해 이러한 배양조건에 sodium nitroprusside (SNP)를 $0{\sim}1mM$의 다양한 농도로 배양초기부터 첨가하거나, $200{\mu}M$ SNP를 2-, 4-, 8-세포기의 각기 다른 배아시기에 첨가하였으며, 복강경수술을 받는 42명의 여성으로부터 채취한 복강액을 SSS대신 단백질원으로 사용하여 포배아까지의 배아 발달율을 관찰하였으며, 복강액 내의 NO농도를 Griess방법에 의해 측정하였다. 배아의 apoptotic body는 H33342 염색법으로 조사하였으며 배아 발달율은 3회 이상 반복 실험한 결과의 mean${\pm}$SEM으로 나타내었다. 결과: SNP는 농도에 의존적으로 배발생을 억제하였으나 배아 단계에 대한 특이성은 관찰할 수 없었으며, 특히 $100{\mu}M$ 이상의 고농도의 SNP는 2-세포기 단계에서 배아 발생을 정지시켰다. 또한 단백질원으로 복강액 이용시 배 발생율은 복강액 내의 NO 농도에 따라 현저한 차이가 발견되었으며, $2.5{\mu}M$이상의 NO를 함유한 복강액에서 배양한 배아의 발생율은 현저하게 감소하였다. cGMP analogue인 8-bromo-cGMP를 배양액에 첨가시 배아 발생에는 변화가 없었으며, SNP에 의해 배발생이 정지된 2-세포기 배아에서 apoptotic body를 발견할 수 없었다. 결론: 이상의 결과로 보아 NO는 고농도에서 배아 발생을 저해하며, 복강액 내의 NO와 같은 성분의 변화는 배아 발생에 유해한 효과를 유발할 것으로 사료된다. 이러한 NO의 배아 발생 억제효과는 cGMP로 중재되는 경로나 apoptosis유발과는 관계가 없는 것 같다.

Studies on Host Plants, Development, and Distribution within Plants of the Greenhouse Whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum(Westwood) (온실(溫室)가루이의 숙주식물(宿主植物), 발육(發育) 및 주내분포(株內分布)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study was conducted to investigate the host plants in greenhouse, developmental periods at different temperatures and distribution patterns on cucumber of the greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum(TV) in $1984{\sim}1985$. Host plants of 39 species belonging 27 families only in the greenhouse were recorded in 1984. Longevity of adult was 26.8 days and number of eggs per female was 305 eggs at $25^{\circ}C$. The eggs, larval and pupal periods were 8.2, 8.3, 7.5 days respectively at $25^{\circ}C$. The threshold temperature of development from egg to larva was $8.8^{\circ}C$. Survival rates from eggs to adults at $22^{\circ}C,\;25^{\circ}C,\;30^{\circ}C$ were 70.3%, 58.0% and 66.4%, respectively. Adults and eggs were found only on the apical leaves of cucumber plants within 40 days after transplanting. On the other hand, larva distributed on the middle leaves and pupa on the lower leaves.

  • In recent years, vertical extension remodeling of apartment building is considered as one of the efficient ways to broaden and enhance the utilization of existing buildings due to the rapid development of population and decrement of land resources. The reinforcement of foundation is of great importance to bearing the additional load caused by the added floors. However, because of the additional load, the carried load by the existing piles would be in excess of its allowable bearing capacity. In this study, a conceptual construction method called preloading method was presented. The preloading method applies force onto the reinforcing pile before vertical extension construction. The purpose of preloading is to transfer partial load applied on the existing piles to reinforcing piles in order to keep each pile not exceeding the allowable capacity and to mobilize resistance of reinforcing pile by developing relative settlement. The feasibility and effect of preloading method was investigated by using finite numerical method. Two simulation models, foundation reinforcement with preloading and without preloading, were developed through PLAXIS 3D program. Numerical results showed that the presented preloading method is capable of sharing partial carried load of existing pile and develops the mobilization of reinforcing pile's frictional resistance.

A Study on Estimation of Human Damage Caused by Rupture of Butane Can (부탄 캔 파열로 인한 인체피해예측에 관한 연구)

  • As the industrial society is highly developing, human need in daily life has also changed drastically. With the introduction of 40 hour working week system, more households enjoy picnics on weekends. More gas accidents take place on Saturdays and on Sundays than any other days of week. In this context, the Institute of Gas Technology Training in Korea Gas Safety Corporation carries out explosion experiment to make trainees to take all possible measure to ensure safe management of gas in the field by fully recognizing the hazards of gas explosion accidents. In this study, the influence of explosion over-pressure caused by the rupture of butane can thrown away after use was calculated by using the Hopkinson's Scaling Law and the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent people into the Probit model. The value of those away from 50 meters from the explosion site was 1.35kPa and the peak overpressure to thoes away from 25 meters directly was 3.2kPa. Those value was input to the PROBIT model, the estimation showed the sante result 0 percent of damage possibility.

  • HTML5-based Web platform is established as a next-generation national standards, Web services provider, has been competitively develop support technology HTML5-based app in smart media devices and smart TV. In accordance with the W3C is an international Web standards development organization, Microsoft, Apple, Mozilla, Google, such as Opera, various Web browser vendors are participating in standardization. Gradually emphasized the importance of HTML5, HTML5 -based Web pages, it is necessary to fast load times when contained a large amount of information. Therefore, in this paper, the initial studies in order to reduce the loading time of a web page, configure each browser-specific same Web page, and measure the initial loading time. Also, one by one remove the HTML5 tags, and CSS property, to analyze the tags and attributes of the account for a large proportion to the initial load time. Through the results, it is desired to provide a process which can reduce the Web page.

  • Recently, supercomputer has been increasingly adopted as a computing environment for scientific simulation as well as education, healthcare and national defence. Especially, supercomputing system with heterogeneous computing resources is gaining resurgence of interest as a next-generation problem solving environment, allowing theoretical and/or experimental research in various fields to be free of time and spatial limits. However, traditional supercomputing services have only been handled through a simple form of command-line based console, which leads to the critical limit of accessibility and usability of heterogeneous computing resources. To address this problem, in this paper, we provide the design and implementation of web-based HPC (High Performance Computing) job management framework for computational scientific simulation. The proposed framework has highly extensible design principles, providing the abstraction interfaces of job scheduler (as well as bundle scheduler plug-ins for LoadLeveler, Sun Grid Engine, OpenPBS scheduler) in order to easily incorporate the broad spectrum of heterogeneous computing resources such as cluster, computing cloud and grid. We also present the detailed specification of HTTP standard based RESTful endpoints, which manage simulation job's life-cycles such as job creation, submission, control and status monitoring, etc., enabling various 3rd-party applications to be newly created on top of the proposed framework.

Potential of Coal Gasification Slag as an Alkali-activated Cement (석탄가스화 복합발전 슬래그의 알칼리 활성 시멘트로서의 가능성)

  • Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) is a next generation energy production technology that converts coal into syngas with enhanced power generation efficiency and environmental performance. IGCC produces almost coal gasification slag as the solid by-product. IGCC slag is generated about 140,000 tons for a year although recycling of it is still in the early stages. We evaluated the potential of IGCC slag which is generated from a pilot plant in South Korea as an alkali-activated cement. Samples which were activated with the combined activator of sodium silicate solution and caustic soda had an average compressive strength of 4.5 MPa, showing expansion. Expansion of the alkali-activated slag was presumed to be caused by free CaO in the slag, although it was not detected by the ethylene glycol method. Samples that were activated with the combined activator of sodium aluminate and caustic soda had an average compressive strength of 10 MPa. Hydroxy sodalite and $C_3AH_6$ were found to be the new crystalline phases. IGCC slag can be used as an alkali-activated material, but the strength performance should be improved with proper mix design approach to calculate optimum proportions which can alleviate the expansion issue at the same time.

An Overlapping Types Model and the Pure Medium of Exchange Role of Fiat Money (중복유형모형(重複類型模型)과 화폐(貨幣)의 순수교환기능(純粹交換機能))

  • Any money model should address the most important phenomenon of a monetary economy, which is the phenomenon of the rate of return dominance. Even if the holding returns on financial or nonfinancial assets are higher than the rate of return on fiat money holding, which is typically zero, people still hold and use money. In a period of accelerating inflation, number of dominating assets increases continuously, yet people continue to hold and use money. Wallace's (1980) overlapping generations model cannot address the rate of return dominance phenomenon. His model does not capture the mediun of exchange role of fiat money. In this paper, an overlapping types model of fiat money is constructed, in which different types of consumers have different preferences on different types of goods, are endowed with different types of goods, are located at seperated regions, and live for only two periods. In this model, people hold and use money despite the dominating assets, even if inflation accelates. Money in this case serves as a pure medium of exchange, whereas in Wallace's model, money serves as a pure store of value, and money disappears if a dominating asset exists. An interesting feature of the overlapping types model presented in this paper is that money does not provide a cheap approximation to an idealized and efficient real allocation. A monetary economy is always superior to a nonmonetary economy, because money helps overcome the incompleteness of the overlapping types friction. In a monetary economy, however, a pareto optimal allocation cannot always be achieved, because money cannot always overcome the overlapping types friction itself. Therefore, with the criterion of optimality of real allocations, the monetary economy is more optimal than a nonmonetary economy but less optimal than a complete Arrow-Debreu economy. This feature has important implications on macro modelling. Because of the difficulty in introducing money into a macro model in an essential and endogenous manner as in the overlapping types model of this paper, a macro model typically ignores money and studies real allocations without the money factor. The possible inefficiencies of a monetary economy, relative to a complete real Arrow-Debreu economy, may indicate differences in real allocations between the two models.

Bionomics of Diamond-back Month, Plutella xylostella(Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) in Southern Region of Korea (남부지방에서 배추좀나방의 발생생태에 관한연구)

  • These studies were conducted to investigate overwintering forms and adult population fluctuation in field condition, and life cycle in field-cage condition of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.). Plutella xylostella overwintered as all the stages of eggs, larvae, pupae and adults in southern region of Korea. The occurrence which adult moths were attracted by light trap at 5-day intervals, reached their peaks in May, mid-June to mid-July, and late September to early November, and fell in late July to mid-September. Under field-cage condition, they occurred 10-11 generations a year and the period of adult emergence from egg was 11-18 days in July and August, 19-23 days in June and September, 28-34 days in April, May and October, and about 50-100 days in other months. And the longevities of adults were 4-11 days in summer, 7-17 days in spring and fall. A number of eggs laid by individual female ranged from 50 to 240. The females laid more eggs in spring and fall than they did in summer. The period of developmental stages under field-cage conditions was 2-3 days for eggs, 7-8 days for larvae and 4-6 days for pupae in July and August; 4-5 days for eggs, 3-12 days for larvae and 6-8 days for pupae in June and September; 6-18 days for eggs, 13-20 days for larvae and 8-14 days for pupae in March, April, May and October; and 12-40 days for eggs, 50-100 days for larvae, and about 20 days for pupae in winter.
