Recently, the object based storage devices systems(OSDs) have been actively researched. They are different from existing block based storage systems(BSDs) in terms of the storage unit. The storage unit of the OSDs is an object that includes the access methods, the attributes of data, the security information, and so on. The object has no size limit and no influence on the internal storage structures. Therefore, the OSDs improve the I/O throughput and the scalability. But the backup systems for the OSDs still use the existing backup techniques for the BSDs. As a result, they need much backup time and do not utilize the characteristics of the OSDs. In this paper, we design and implement a new object based backup system that utilizes the features of the OSDs. Our backup system significantly improves the backup time over existing backup systems because the raw objects are directly transferred to the backup devices in our system. It also restores the backup data much faster than the existing systems when system failures occur. In addition, it supports various types of backup and restore requests.
Suction drain method can directly apply vacuum pressure to the soft ground through vertical drains so it can make hardening zones around them. These hardening zones make steeply lower the discharge efficiency of the pore water with decreasing permeability. This paper considered a stepped vacuum pressure to minimize a hardening zone which is one of the important parameters that can decrease discharge efficiency. A series of laboratory tests were conducted in order to examine the effect of the hardening zones and to evaluate their effects to the ground improvements with varying durations which applied stepped vacuum pressures(-20kPa, -40kPa, -60kPa and -80kPa) with Busan marine clay. According to strength(CPT), water content test and theoretical investigation indicate a size of the hardening zone within 7cm and the decreasing ratio of permeability about 2.0~4.0. Also, the total settlements are larger for the stepped vacuum pressure than the instant vacuum loading. The application time with vacuum pressure is determined considering the geotechnical properties of the interested clays. Results of numerical analysis show that consolidation behavior is appropriate to measurement for considering hardening zones.

In this study, we report the effect of VI/III ratio on ${\alpha}-Ga_2O_3$ epilayer on sapphire substrate by halide vapor phase epitaxy. The surface of ${\alpha}-Ga_2O_3$ epilayer grown with various VI/III ratios was flat and crack-free. To analyze the optical properties of the ${\alpha}-Ga_2O_3$ epilayers, the transmittance and an optical band gap were measured. The optical band gap was shown to be around 5 eV and showed a proportional increase in VI/III ratios. To determine the crystal quality of alpha gallium oxide grown with a ratio of 23, closed to the theoretical optical band gap, the FWHM was measured by HR-XRD. The calculated dislocation density of screw and edge were $1.5{\times}10^7cm^{-2}$ and $5.4{\times}10^9cm^{-2}$, respectively.
False sharing is a result of co-location of unrelated data in the same unit of memory coherency, and is one source of unnecessary overhead being of no help to keep the memory coherency in multiprocessor systems. Moreover. the damage caused by false sharing becomes large in proportion to the granularity of memory coherency. To reduce false sharing in a page-based DSM system, it is necessary to allocate unrelated data objects that have different access patterns into the separate shared pages. In this paper we propose call-site tracing-based shared memory allocator. shortly CSTallocator. CSTallocator expects that the data objects requested from the different call-sites may have different access patterns in the future. So CSTailocator places each data object requested from the different call-sites into the separate shared pages, and consequently data objects that have the same call-site are likely to get together into the same shared pages. We use execution-driven simulation of real parallel applications to evaluate the effectiveness of our CSTallocator. Our observations show that by using CSTallocator a considerable amount of false sharing misses can be additionally reduced in comparison with the existing techniques.

The purpose of the study is to conceptualize SSI-PCK by identifying major components and sub-components to promote science teachers' confidence and knowledge on teaching SSIs. To achieve this, I conducted extensive literature reviews on teachers' perceptions on SSI, case studies of teachers addressing SSIs, SSI instructional strategies, etc. as well as PCK. Results indicate that SSI-PCK include six major components: 1) Orientation for Teaching SSI (OTS), 2) Knowledge of Instructional Strategies for Teaching SSI (KIS), 3) Knowledge of Curriculum (KC), 4) Knowledge of Students' SSI Learning (KSL), 5) Knowledge of Assessment in SSI Learning (KAS), and 6) Knowledge of Learning Contexts (KLC). OTS refers to teachers' instructional goals and intentions for teaching SSIs. Teachers often present a) activity-driven, b) knowledge and higher order thinking skills, c) application of science in everyday life, d) nature of science and technology, e) citizenship and f) activism orientations for teaching SSIs. KIS indicates teachers' instructional knowledge required for effectively designing and implementing SSI lessons. It includes a) SSI lesson design, b) utilizing progressive instructional strategies, and c) constructing collaborative classroom cultures. KC refers to teachers' knowledge on a) connection to science curriculum (horizontal/vertical) and b) connection to other subject matters. KSL refers to teachers' knowledge on a) learner experiences in SSI learning, b) difficulties in SSI learning, and c) SSI reasoning patterns. KAS indicates teachers' knowledge on a) dimensions of SSI learning to assess, and b) methods of assessing SSI learning. Finally, KLC refers to teachers' knowledge on the cultures of a) classrooms, b) schools, and c) community and society where they are located when teaching SSIs.

Purpose : This study is intended to understand the sensitometric characteristics and the emulsion properties of the commercially available CEA TVS film in comparison with the Kodak X-Omat V film. Materials and Methods : For this purpose, we have formulated an analytic expression of the characteristic curves for x-ray film exposed to mixed radiation of electrons, photons, and visible light. This mathematical expression was developed based on reaction-rate and target-hit theories. Unlike previous expressions. it relates optical density to emulsion properties such as grain size and silver bromide content We have also developed a quantity which characterizes the film response to visible light relative to that to photons and electrons. This quantity could be expressed as a function of grain area. Thus, we have developed mathematical expressions and quantities with which the emulsion properties of the films can be revealed based on the sensitometric characteristics. Demonstrating the use of this analytical study, we exposed CEA and Kodak verification films to the mixed radiation of electrons, photons, and visible light, and interpreted the experimental results accordingly. Results : We have demonstrated that: (1) the saturation density increases as the silver bromide content increases, (2) the time required to reach the threshold dose (to which the film begins to respond) when films are exposed to visible light decreases as the grain size increases, and (3) the CEA film contains more silver bromide. whereas the Kodak film contains larger grains. These findings were supported by the data provided by the manufacturers afterward. Conclusion : This study presented an analytical and experimental basis for understanding the response of X-ray film with respect to the emulsion properties.
In this study, more economical than conventional reinforced soil retaining walls, we compared the behavior characteristic about the safety block type numerically for reinforced retaining wall. In this study, reinforced soil retaining wall, first, was integrated a wall putting shear key on the blocks. Second, construction reinforcement focused on the theoretical failure surface was satisfied with the stability of a retaining wall reinforced by a shear plane. when analyzing, element of using reinforcement was carried out a numerical analysis for the cable element and the strip element, and they were analyzed under the conditions according to the stiffener length, distance, with or without shear key. Analysis for the integration of the front wall was reinforced soil retaining walls by installing a larger displacement shear key confinement effect, if reinforced construction and reinforcement with 1 interval and 2 interval, the failure surface was bigger displacement constraints. Generating a deformation amount was smaller than the generation amount of deformation accrued during construction of AASHTO so that it was stable.
Polymer concrete shows excellent mechanical properties and chemical resistance compared with conventional normal cement concrete. The polymer concrete is drawing a strong interest as high-performance materials in the construction industry. Resins using recycled PET offer the possibility of a lower source cost of materials for making useful polymer concrete products. Also the recycling of PET in polymer concrete would help solve some of the solid waste problems posed by plastics and save energy. The purposed of this paper is to propose the model for the stress-strain relation of recycled-PET polymer concrete at monotonic uniaxial compression and is to investigate for the stress-strain behavior characteristics of recycled-PET polymer concrete with different variables(strength, resin contents, curing conditions, addition of silane and ages). The maximum stress and strain of recycled-PET polymer concrete was found to increase with an increase in resin content, however, it decreased beyond a particular level of resin content. A ascending and descending branch of stress-strain curve represented more sharply at high temperature curing more than normal temperature curing. Addition of silane increases compressive strength and postpeak ductility. In addition, results show that the proposed model accurately predicts the stress-strain relation of recycled-PET polymer concrete
The effects of joint density and size distribution on the hydrogeologic characteristics of jointed rock masses are addressed through numerical experiments based on the 2-D DFN (discrete fracture network) fluid flow analysis. Using two joint sets, a total of 51 2-D joint network system were generated with various joint density and size distribution. Twelve fluid flow directions were chosen every $30^{\circ}$ starting at $0^{\circ}$, and total of 612 $20m{\times}20m$ DFN blocks were prepared to calculate the directional block conductivity. Also, the theoretical block conductivity, principal conductivity tensor and average block conductivity for each generated joint network system were determined. The directional block conductivity and chance for the equivalent continuum behavior of the 2-D DFN system were found to increase with the increase of joint density or size distribution. However, the anisotropy of block hydraulic conductivity increases with the increase of density discrepancy between the joint sets, and the chance for the equivalent continuum behavior were found to decrease. The smaller the intersection angle of the two joint sets, the more the equivalent continuum behavior were affected by the change of joint density and size distribution. Even though the intersection angle is small enough that it is difficult to have equivalent continuum behavior, the chance for anisotropic equivalent continuum behavior increases as joint density or size distribution increases.
The simple solid electrolyte carbon dioxide sensor with heaters were fabricated by using Li ionic conductor. Two Au electrodes were used for the reference and sensing electrode respectively. Two types of gas sensors, type ( I ) and type (II), were fabricated. Type ( I ) sensor was fabricated by the method of melting and crystallizing alkali metal carbonate at the temperature of $420{\sim}500^{\circ}C$. The sensing membrane of type (II) sensor was formed by the printing method on sensing electrode after metal carbonate was mixed with binder. The response characteristics of sensors fabricated for the carbon dioxide were investigated for a range of $CO_{2}$ concentration from 950 ppm to 9,950 ppm at operating temperature $420^{\circ}C$. Type ( I ) sensor and type (II) sensor showed the sensitivity of 62 mV/decade and 65 mV/decade respectively. The emf/decade of type (II) sensor tested at $420^{\circ}C$ almost followed the theoretical value of Nernst's equation and showed stable response characteristics with the fast response time of $15{\sim}20$ sec. Also type (II) sensor showed excellent stability and reproduction properties for 60 days.
