  • Life cycle and host plants of Scotinophara lurida(BURMEISTER) were studied from 1999 to 2001. Egg of S. lurida was oval-shaped with light-gray in color. Nymphs were reddish brown, dark brown, and brown, and the body was 1.19~7.24mm long, depending on their developmental stages from the 1st to the 5th instar. Adults were black and the body were 9.34mm and 8.47mm long in female laid 30.7 eggs in average for its life span. Developmental period was 4.3 days for eggs, and 45.8 days for nymphs. Total 9 host plant species was identified by the greenhouse observation in Chungbuk province.

  • This study was performed to investigate the bionomical characteristics of Allomyrina dichotoma in Korea. The imaginal stage was from late June to late August, and the advent of imagoes was the most frequent in mid-July. The larvae inhibited in humus and the period of larva was all completed in late October. At the stage of the third larva, the larvae entered into the hibernation. The average number of laid eggs was 24, and all periods of each stage - eggs, first, second, third instar larvae and pupa - were shortened in $30^{\circ}C$ than in $25^{\circ}C$. As for the longevity of imagoes, female, reared in individual and in low temperature lived longer than male, in group and in high temperature, respectively.

  • A species of metacercariae recovered from the fresh-water fish, collected from Kaumji (Pond), Kaechonji (Pond) and Ssanggyechon (River), Uisong-gun, Kyongsangbuk-do, Korea, was identified as Clinostomum compzcnatum by morphological observation and experimental infection to chicks. The excysted metacercariae, tongue-shaped and progenetic, were 3.28-4.27 mm in length and 0.94-1.46 mm in width. The adult flukes recovered from the chicks four days after infection were 4.20-4.86 mm long and 1.14-1.49 mm wide. Twelve species of the fresh-water fish were found to be infected with the metacercariae. The infection rate ranged from 1.6% (Zacco temminkii) to 88.9% (Acheilognathus rhombec and Microphwsogobio voluensis) . The intensity was highest in Cnrqssius curatus (13.0/fish infected) and the abundance (relative densityl was highest in A. rhombea (7.8/fish examined). This survey demonstrated for the first time the source of human infection by C. complnnntum in Korea.

  • The metacercariae of Pharyngostomum cordatum were found naturally infected in the European grass snake, Rhabdophis tigrina, purchased from a local snake collector in Jinju, Kyongsangnam-do. They were experimentally fed to several kinds of animals such as mice, rats, hamsters, ducklings, a dog, and cats. The adult worms were recovered from the cats 5 weeks after the infection, but none from other animals. The measurements and other morphological characters of the metacercariae and adults were both compatible with those of p. cordatum described by previous authors. The present study confirmed that the snake, Rhabdophis tigrina, serves as a second intermediate (or paratenic) host of p. cordatum in Uorea.

  • Five species of the genus Aulacaspis (Sternorrhyncha, Diaspididae) from Korea were redescribed and illustrated for the morphological characters of adult females with the information of known host plants. Among them, Aulacaspis spinosa (Maskell, 1897) is reported for the first time from the Korean Peninsula. A key to species is given for the adult females.

  • In this study, one species of the bag moth, Mahasena aurea (Butler) (Lepidoptera: Psychidae), was found for the first time in Korea as a new insect pest on leaves of Liriope spicata (Thunb.) Lour. Also, the female larvae and adults of the species were first collected in this country. Larvae, pupae, and adults of both sexes are redescribed with illustrations of all external characteristics including the genitalia of the male.
