We investigated the induction of pupal diapause and number of generation for H. armigera using outdoor rearing and sex pheromone trapping in Suwon, Korea. Over-wintering pupae were induced when neonate larvae were reared in the outdoors from late Aug. to early Oct. in 2013 and 2014. H. armigera adults emerged from late May to early Jun. for 2013 colonies and from late May to late Jun. for 2014 colonies. The colonies placed after mid September produced only diapause pupae, to show environmental conditions that day-lengths on the rearing start date were 11 h 49 min~12 h 24 min, and mean temperatures before pupation were $14.8{\sim}20.7^{\circ}C$. Summer diapause was not observed in all colonies. The peak occurrence of H. armigera adults from sex pheromone trap in Suwon and Hwaseong were pooled and showed four generations (1st: from late Apr. to mid Jun., 2nd: from mid Jun. to late Jul., 3rd: from mid Jul. to late Aug., 4th: from late Aug. to mid Oct.). A degree-day model for development of H. armigera developed by Mironidis and Savopoulou-Soultani (2008) was used to validate the number of generation from field observations using pheromone traps. The 3rd and over-wintering generations were mainly overlapped. It was decided that H. armigera has one over-wintering and three complete generations in a year, and diapause is induced from offsprings of the 3rd and 4th generations adults. It is expected that larvae of the 1st and 2nd generations give a damage to ear zone in maize fields in which have been planted during April.

Due to internal feeding behavior, the oriental tobacco budworm, Helicoverpa assulta ($Guen\acute{e}e$), infesting hot pepper has been regarded to be effectively controlled by targeting egg and neonate larval stages just before entering the fruits. This study aimed to develop an efficient biological control method focusing on these susceptible stages of H. assulta. An egg parasitoid wasp, Trichogramma evanescens Westwood, was confirmed to parasitize the eggs of H. assulta. A mixture of Gram-positive soil bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki, and Gram-negative entomopathogenic bacterium, Xenorhabdus nematophila ANU101, could effectively kill neonate larvae of H. assulta. A sex pheromone trap monitored the occurrence of field H. assulta adults. The microbial insecticide mixture was proved to give no detrimental effects on immature development and adult survival of the wasp by both feeding and contact toxicity tests. A combined treatment of egg parasitoid and microbial pesticide was applied to hot pepper fields infested by H. assulta. The mixture treatment of both biological control agents significantly decreased the fruit damage, which was comparable to the chemical insecticide treatment, though either single biological control agent did not show any significant control efficacy. This study also provides morphological and genetic characters of T. evanescens.
This study was carried out to investigate the ecology of Nesodiprion japonlcus (Mmm,m) damaging many conifers The results obtained were as follows: Nesod~prion japonicus (Maun) emerged two times for a year and their body was black m both sexes. A female (10.1t 1 2 mm) adult was larger than a male (9.9t 0.8 mm) one in the body size. The size of antenna as plumose of female was different from that of male. Life span of adults was 3 or 4 days, those emergence rate was 92% and sex ratio of female to male was 6: 4. Adults 1a1d only an egg in the leaf and the region of the leaf aviposited turned brown. Duration of egg was 14.35 1 2 days, egg was In the shape of banana and red~sh-yellow,a nd its sire was 2.4+ 0.2 mm long. Duration of larvae was 30.35 2.1 days and its slze 20.15 2.2 mm, body was green with grey~sh shipes on the dorsal and lateral aspect, the tip of front and hind was yellow and head was brown with a dark-p~gmented area. Mature larva turned into light green and get lost a dark-pigmented area of head. The firstly-emerged larva made cocoons on the base of leaves and the secondawemerged larva among fallen leaves Duration of prepupa was 14.3f 2.0 days and their size 10.15 2.3 mm Duration of pupa was 12.2+ 1.3 days and its size 10.lt0.2mm.
Nosema spp. (NS) causes severe problems to honey bee colonies including the death of the highly infected ones. Searching for effective materials to control this parasite is very important. The objectives of this study were to identify the calendar for the prevalence of NS and other bee diseases, and to test the efficacy of three materials: diluted honey mixed with lemon juice (M1), chamomile extract mixed with sugar syrup (M2) and sutrivet mixed with sugar syrup (M3) against Nosema. To realize these objectives, diseases of brood and adult honey bees were surveyed over one year. Also, the efficacy of M1, M2 and M3 against Nosema was evaluated under field and laboratory conditions. The results showed that few diseases for immature and mature stages of honey bees were recorded. NS was detected during winter and spring in link with low temperature and high relative humidity. Under field conditions, M2 reduced the infection by 36.66% while M3 by 23.33% and finally M1 by 13.33%. In the laboratory, the highest efficacy was to M2 followed by M1 and finally M3. The three materials impacted the percentage of survived bees significantly higher than infected bees without any treatments over the experimental period. The study suggests the potential role of chamomile as a natural material to control NS.
Characteristics of habitat alteration and post-embryonic development of Paratlanticus ussuriensis were investigated in the mountain region of Bitanri, Yeongdong county, Chungcheongbuk-do from 2007 to 2009. Overwintered eggs under the ground in the hillside were hatched from late March to early April. The soil temperature during this season was $7{\sim}14^{\circ}C$. Young nymphs lived mainly at the hillside by eating oak tree leaves but the 3rd or 4th instars switched their habitat to orchards near the hillside in early May, which is the time for sprouting of peach leaves. Old nymphs developed into the adult stage at the orchards in late May and moved back to the hillside in late June. Duration of post-embryonic development from the first instar nymph to adult was 49.2 days after 7 moltings at $25^{\circ}C$. Female adults collected from the field had long ovipositor (26.2 mm) and were slightly longer in the body length, hind femur, tegmen and pronotum than those of males.
This study was conducted to investigate the bionomics, host range and damage aspect of Japanese juniperus bark borer, Semanotus bifasciatus M., which shoves the severe damage for the Juniperace in Chonnam province, recently. Host plants were Juniperus virginiana, J. chinensis var. kaizuka, J. chinensis, Biata orientalis var. nepalensis, Chamaccyparis ostus and Thujopsis dolabrata. Out of those, J. chinensis var. kaizuka is newly investigated in this study. Damage rate in each area was $16.5\%$ in Kwangju, $4.25\%$ in Damyang ana $6.5\%$ in Hwasoon. Adults appear once a year, with a peak at late March to early April. Adults emergence during the day showed the peak at 13 to 15 hours and were influenced in the maximum temperature in a day. Attack direction of larva after invasion in the stem was $62\%$ toward base, $22\%$ toward tip and $16\%$ toward horizon, and the damage in each DBH (Diameter of breast height) was the greatest at $30\~40mm$. At period of each stage, egg was $15.8\~19.7$ days, larva was $l12\~126$ days and pupa was $15\~21$ days. Longevity of adult was 19 days for female and 16 days for male.
Occurrence status of Tetranychus viennensis Zacher was investigated in Kyonghuk province. Its ecological studies were carried out and chemical control efficacy against females and eggs was examined. And the results ohtained are as follows. T. viennensis occurred from mid April through mid November with the peak time in June on cherry tree. Population level of T. viennensis was varied from 0 to 160 individuals per 100 peach leaves in different peach orchards, and its occurrence rate was 35% out of 20 ochards. However no T. viennensis was observed from 25 apple orchards in 5 districts of Kyongbuk province. Overwintering stage of T. viennensis females appeared in mid October, and most of them moved into under the rough hark in early November. The overwintered adult females moved out from the rough bark to leaves in early April. Mortality during overwintering was about 55%. Under four constant temperatures of 16, 19, 22, 25$^{\circ}$C. egg periods were 14. 3, 9.2, 6.8, and 4.0 days ; larva -nymph periods were 20.2, 13.9, 8.7, and 6.6 days. Female longevity was 67. 7, 60.7, 46.4, and 34.0 days : mean tota: fecundities per female were 21.2, 44.3, 54.4, and 64.7 eggs. Some acaricides, azocyclotin, pyridaben, propargite, tehufenpyrad and fenpyroximate were highly effective against females, while hexythiazox and clofentezine showed very low control effect from 3.6 to 14.4%. Whereas, all of 7 acaricides tested highly effective against the eggs.
Studies were carried out to examine seasonal occurrence and emergence pattern of the onion fly, Delia antiqua (Meigen), in the field of Chinju city in Gyeongnam province from 1984 to 1987. Trap catch revealed that the onion fly had three generations in a year, the second flight being partial; the peaks of adult occurrence were at mid April for the overwintered generation (1st flight), at early June for the first generation (2nd flight), and at the period from late September to early October for the autumn generation (3rd flight). It was shown that parts of the pupae in the first and almost all of the pupae in the second (or autumn) generation underwent summer diapause. The pupal periods were less than 22.4 days for the non-diapaused pupae, while those of the diapause. The pupal periods were less than 22.4 days for the non-diapaused pupae, while those of the diapaused pupae were form 8.5 to 145 days in the first generation in he filed, being shorter for the pupae pupated later. This resutled in synchronization on the emergence of these diapaused pupae at late September, with the adults from the second generation pupae. The ratio of diapausing pupae increased among the later pupated ones in the first generation ; the pupae which had been pupated in early May included 43.8% of diapausing pupae, while more than 86.7% of the pupae were under diapausing state for the pupae pupated in late May and thereafter. More than 93.3% of the pupae went into diapause, regardless of pupation time for the second generation.
This study was conducted to determine pheromone trap type and height in forecasting populations of R. clavatus in soybean fields using pheromone. The most effective pheromone trap type and height in forecasting populations of R. clavatus were fish trap and 60 cm above ground. Ratio of R. clavatus adults female and male in soybean field was 1.5 to 1 and Piezodorus hybneri was also attracted to the aggregation pheromone trap of R. clavatus. Attractiveness of two stink bug species caught on synthesis pheromone of R. clavatus was surveyed with imported production and synthesized production. Imported pheromone attracted only adult of R. clavatus, but synthesized pheromone attracted both adult of R. clavatus and P. hybneri. Change of population of R. clavatus was observed using pheromone trap and sweeping method in soybean field. Adults of R. clavatus occurred from early August and the population reached its peak in early September when pheromone trap was used. In case of sweeping method, its fluctuation pattern was similar to that of pheromone trap.

Occurrence ecology and possibility of mass trapping of Popillia quadriguttata, one of the most serious turfgrass insect pest in domestic golf courses was investigated using pheromone traps in Gimpo and Jinhae. Peak period of adult occurrence of P. quadriguttata was late June and early July in Gimpo Seaside Country Club from 2006 to 2008. It was early and middle July in Youngwon Country Club in 2006. The first catched day of P. quadriguttata adult was 20 June, while the last day was 10 September in Gimpo Seaside Country Club, 2006. Mean catched number of P. quadriguttata adult in Japanese beetle pheromone trap per day in peak period of occurrence were 18.2, 25.7, 29.0, and 15.7 at 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively. Mean catched number of P. quadriguttata adult in Japanese beetle pheromone trap were more in fairways or roughs than tees or greens. Possibility of control of scarab beetle using pheromone trap with pesticide treatment was investigated against oriental beetle, Blitopertha orientalis in Dongrae Benest Golf Club. Mean number of dead oriental beetle adult were more higher(2.9 folds) in fenitrothion EC treatment than fenitrothion EC treatment after set oriental beetle pheromone trap.
