  • This study explored the changes in the elementary science teaching expertise of teachers who participated in an in-school professional learning community for elementary science instructional research. Six elementary school teachers from grades 4, 5, and 6 at an 18-class S elementary school in a medium-sized city in Chungcheongbuk-do conducted collaborative instructional research on elementary science lessons as part of an in-school professional learning community, which was held 26 times over 7 months in 2020. During the professional learning community, video and audio recordings of the activities, research lessons, course materials, and professional learning community reflection activities were collected for analysis. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative research methods; data processing, reading, note-taking, description, classification, interpretation, reporting, and visualization; and the instructional professionalism elements were extracted based on the instructional professionalism framework. In the early professional learning community activity stages, the participating teachers first discussed their teaching perspectives, their experiences, and their goals for teaching science, which resulted in a selection of research questions. The teachers then collaboratively designed and implemented research lessons for each grade level, after which lesson reflections were conducted. The teachers' abilities to engage in qualitative reflection on the research questions improved after each reflection iteration. It was found that this professional learning community collaborative lesson study experience positively contributed to teaching expertise development. Based on the study findings, the implications for using professional learning communities to improve elementary teachers' science teaching expertise are given.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of nursing students' self-reflection and insight, and academic selfefficacy on their clinical reasoning competence. Methods: Data were collected from 147 third- and fourth-year nursing students who had more than 6 months of clinical training experience. Clinical reasoning competence, self-reflection and insight, and academic self-efficacy were measured using self-reported questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted with IBM SPSS 25.0 using one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Clinical reasoning competence was positively correlated with self-reflection and insight (r=.24, p=.003) and academic self-efficacy (r=.30, p<.001). Academic self-efficacy (β=.23, p=.011), dissatisfaction with major (β=-.17, p=.034), and 5~8 case studies (β=-.39, p=.027) were identified as factors influencing clinical reasoning competence (adjusted R2=.15). Conclusion: To improve the clinical reasoning competence of nursing students, it is necessary to develop the academic self-efficacy of complex cases and provide critical inquiries, debriefing tailored to clinical reasoning, and sufficient reflection during clinical and simulation practice.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to translate the Self-Reflection and Insight Scale (SRIS) into Korean and test its validity and reliability. Methods: Participants were 340 nursing students who were recruited from 5 nursing colleges in Korea. Data were collected from November 21 to December 20, 2016 and analyzed using the IBM Statistics SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 23.0 programs. Exploratory factor analysis, Confirmatory factor analysis, and concurrent validity analysis were performed. Results: For the Korean-SRIS (K-SRIS) 4 items were deleted from the original SRIS. The final scale consisted of 16 items which were sorted into- the 2 factors: self-reflection (11 items), insight (5 items). The cumulative percent of variance was 50.91%. The statistically significant correlation between K-SRIS scores and the Reflection in Learning Scale (RLS) support the concurrent validity of the K-SRIS. The reliability of the scale, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was .83. Conclusion: The finding indicate that the K-SRIS has validity and reliability. Therefore it can be used for measuring and developing reflection ability in nursing students.
