Effect of Light on the Sclerotial Formation of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum(Lib.) de Bary (균핵병균(Sclerotinia sclerotiorum(Lib.) de Bary)의 균핵형성에 미치는 광선의 영향)

  • Present paper was attempted to investigate the effects of the light on the sclerotium formation of some isolates of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum(Lib.) do Bary from lettuce, cucumber and rape. The investigations were performed in the both aspects inducing sclerotial primordia from the mycelial colony and developing such primordia. The cultures were grown on potato-dextrose agar and were treated with day-light fluorescent lamps. In the continuous light illumination for 21 days, numbers of sclerotial primordia and matured sclerotia were increased with increasing the light intensity up to about 500 Lux, but on the contrary the dry-weight of matured sclerotia was decreased. In the 800 Lux illumination, induction of the primordia was extremely depressed, and then matured sclerotia were almost not produced. Short-time illumination for 48 hours, although the light intensity was as high as 5000 Lux, increased the numbers of sclerotial primordia and matured sclerotia. Dry-weight of matured sclerotia, however, was slightly increased only at low intensity of 160 Lux. On the other hand, the light shock which u·as alternatively on-of light every one minute for 48 hours increased the number and dry-weight of sclerotia produced, but the former was more effective at 500 Lux shock and the later more effective at 160 Lux shock.

편광관측을 통한 달 표면 표토의 입자 크기 측정

  • 달표면 표토의 평균 입자크기와 성숙도(maturity)는 달 연구 및 탐사에 있어 중요한 정보이다. 표토의 성숙도는 탐사하는 지역의 형성시기에 대한 정보를 제공하고, 평균입자크기는 달 탐사 로보의 설계에 중요한 정보로 쓰이기 때문이다. 우리는 달표면 표토의 평균입자크기와 성숙도를 측정하기 위하여 경희대학교 천문대에서 12cm 굴절망원경과 정방형 2k CCD를 이용하여 $633{\mu}m$ 파장의 편광관측을 수행하였다. 관측의 공간 분해능은 달의 중심부에서 2.89km/pixel이다. 달표면에서 산란된 빛의 편광도는 달표면 표토의 평균입자크기를 알 수 있는 중요한 정보가 된다. 표토의 평균입자크기는 최대편광도와 알비도에 관계되기 때문에 편광관측과 알비도 관측으로부터 평균입자크기를 측정할 수 있다. 표토의 평균입자크기는 시간이 지남에 따라서 점점 작아지는데, 이는 표토가 미세운석체의 충돌에 오랜 시간 동안 노출되어 있기 때문이다. 미세운석체의 충돌은 달표면에서 고르고 지속적으로 일어났기 때문에, 표토의 평균입자크기를 알 수 있다면 표토가 얼마나 오랫동안 달표면에 노출되었는지를 나타내는 성숙도를 측정할 수 있다. 우리는 편광관측을 통하여 처음으로 달표면 전체의 평균입자크기의 분포를 측정하였고, 그로부터 표토의 성숙도를 추정했다.

Change in chemical composition of maturing barley kernels (보리곡립의 성숙중 이화학적 특성변화)

  • Some chemical properties were investigated for barley kernels at different growth stages. Crude fat, crude protein, starch, alcohol-insoluble solids(AIS), and ${\beta}-glucan$ increased until $31{\sim}36\;days$ from ear emergence and thereafter remained relatively constant, whereas ash and crude fiber contents were gradually decreased through the whole period of maturation. As barley kernels became mature, their water contents kept decreasing, and the content of milky stage barley kernel at $31{\sim}36th\;days$ from ear emergence ranged from $40{\sim}50%$. Free sugars including glucose, fructose, sucrose, raffinose, maltose, and kestose were identified in the growing kernels. Glucose, sucrose and kestose decreased with maturation while raffinose slightly increased. Barley kernels on the 43rd day from ear emergence contained 0.62% sucrose, 0.46% raffinose, 0.33% kestose, 0.19% glucose, 0.17% fructose, 0.04% maltose. Analysis of minerals for barley kernels at different growth stages showed that the growing kernels contained K, P, Mg, Ca, Na, Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu in decreasing order. Vitamin $B_1$ content tended to increase with kernel growth, showing maximum value of $350\;{\mu}g\;per\;100\;g$ dry weight on 36th day from ear emergence.

Changes in Physicochemical Characteristics of Barley Leaves During Growth (보리잎의 성숙시기별 이화학적 특성)

  • Growing barley leaves with $20{\sim}50cm$ length were analyzed for chemical constituents including moisture, crude fiber, protein, fat, ash, free sugars, free amino acids, chlorophylls, vitamin C and minerals. During the growth of barley leaves, moisture content decreased, while crude fiber gradually increased. Protein, fat and ash contents of barley leaves remained relatively unchanged. Chlorophyll content increased to a maximum value at the leaf length of 20 cm, and then declined. Minerals of barley leaves were abundant in the following order of K>Ca>P>Na>Mg. Vitamin C content, showing the similar trend to chlorophyll, was the highest at the leaf length of 20 cm. Major free sugars present in growing barley leaves were identified as glucose, fructose and sucrose. All the free sugars reached their maximum values at 20 cm and they were reduced thereafter. Total amount of free amino acids varied from 803 mg% at the Barley stage of l0 cm to 1038 mg% at the later stage of 50 cm. Changes in content for each amino acid were variable to some extent.

  • Captured wild specimens of the big white-toothed shrew, Crocidura lasiura were classified into three age classes by tooth wear and height of molars, and seasonal variations of breeding and reproductive organs were examined. Juveniles had not tooth wear in molars and height of the third molars were lower than the first and second molars, and had only non-breeding condition. Young adults had little tooth wear and the third molars reached to the first and second molars, and old adults had heavy tooth wear in molars, young adults and old adults had breeding or non-breeding condition according to the season. On the basis of histological examination, seasonal variations of breeding were confirmed that breeding condition of young and old adult males were continued from early February to early October although the breeding activity was the highest in April, that of females were continued from the end of March to October, males reached sexual maturity earlier than females. Whereas the breeding condition seems to cease for non-breeding season because of the deficiency of food resources, soil invertebrates. Young and old adult males of the breeding season had large testes with enlarged seminiferous tubules that were filled with numerous germ cells, and expanded caudal epididymides with a vast number of spermatozoa, and were more than 10.0 g in the body weight and 0.03 g in the testis and epididymis weight. The females of the breeding season were pregnant condition with 4~6 litters or had the Graafian follicles and the corpus lutea in the ovary, and were more than 9.6 g in the body weight.

  • Captured specimens of the lesser white-toothed shrew, Crocidura suaveolens were classified into three age classes by tooth wear and seasonal variations of reproductive organs were investigated. Molars of juveniles had not tooth wear and the height of the third molars were lower than the first and second molars, young adults had smooth tooth wear and the third molars reached to the first and second molars, and old adults had heavy tooth wear and the third molars also reached to the first and second molars. On the basis of histological examination, seasonal variation of breeding was confirmed that breeding season of adult males was from early February to early October, having a peak of the breeding in April and July, and non-breeding season was from in the middle of October to late January. Young and old adult males of the breeding season had large testes with enlarged seminiferous tubules filling with numerous germ cells and expanded caudal epididymides with a vast number of spermatozoa, Young and old adult males of the non-breeding season had the small testes with the extremely slender seminiferous tubules filling with only spermatogonia and the reduced caudal epididymides without spermatozoa. Males weighing more than 3.9 g in the body weight and 0.013 g in the testis and epididymis weight reached sexual maturation in breeding season, and the females weighing more than 3.8 g in body weight of the breeding season were pregnant condition having 5~6 litters or had the Graafian follicles and the corpus lutea in the ovary.

Effect of parboiling on the physicochemical properties of immature barley kernels (Parboiling처리가 미숙보리곡립의 이화학적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Parboiling, a popular technology used to protect rice from nutrient loss during milling and to increase the shelf-life of rice, was applied to barley kernels, and its effect on nutrient retention and chemical composition was evaluated. Before 36 days after ear emergence, barley kernels showed water content higher than 40%, and parboiling without presoaking resulted in at least 43% of gelatinization degree. This implies that soaking, an important step of parboiling, is dispensable for barley at milky stage. Parboiling did make little change in the appearance of the kernel after 31 days from ear emergence. Nonreducing sugars such as sucrose and raffinose remained unchanged while reducing sugars of barley was decreased by parboiling, with exception that maltose increased. Pearling led to decrease in crude protein, fat, fiber and minerals of barley sampled and parboiled on 36th day from ear emergence. Free sugars in the parboiled barley also was reduced with increasing pearling rate. Vitamin $B_1$ content of the parboiled barley was $260\;{\mu}g\;per\;100\;g$ as dry basis at 50% pearling rate, compared to $36\;{\mu}g$ for raw barley at same pearling rate. Thus parboiling appeared to be very effective in the retention of vitamin $B_1$ during pearling.

An International Comparison of Industrial Organization and Regulation Trends in the Gas Sector (가스산업 조직 및 규제 동향의 국제비교)

  • Six countries are considered in the study for the comparison of their respective gas industries with the Korean gas industry: the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany and Japan. The emphases of comparison are given on the cross-evaluation of industry organizations and related regulations. In terms of industrial development stages, the Korean gas industry, with its short experience and in need of more infrastructure, is still young and at an early stage of development. Due to this reason, the study finds that it is premature for the Korean case to propose some policies like the promotion of competition in the gas transportation through third-party access to pipelines. or seeking overseas business opportunities requiring venture capital and advanced technology. Recommendations are made that Korea rather, for the time being, concentrate its energy on the construction of infrastructure and on securing supply sources and diversifying import origins, in order to strengthen it's supply capability in the face of rapidly increasing gas demand in the nation. Nevertheless, Korea will soon have to consider more seriously about the deregulation of the market and more diversified business activities through the development of high technology and managerial skills.

A Study on the Direction Ideas of Residential Feng Shui-focused of Zhaijing(宅經) (양택 풍수지리의 방위관 - "택경(宅經)"을 중심을 -)

  • This research was to analyze the direction ideas of residential Feng Shui. In ancient China residential places were been established by Xiangzhai(相宅) and Buzhai(卜宅) usages. And ancient Chinese always considered geographical features of mountains and waters for setting up their living places. Geographical features were also considered importantly ih representative residential Feng Shui books, Zhaijing(宅經) and Yangzhaisanyao(陽宅三要). In Zhaihing, 24 direction ideas are co-related with Fagui(八卦) and GanZhi(千支) theories, and they are most important residential Feng Shiui direction theories. The basic thoughts of 24 direction ideas of Zhaijing were already formed in Qin(秦) dynasty and modified in early Han(漢) dynasty. In Zhaijing, residential places were splited into Yangzhai(陽宅) and Yinzhai(陰宅) according to YinYang's Qi directions. Those were actually formed from meticulous observations on changing processes of YinYangWuXing(陰陽五行)'s Qi(氣). Constantly changed Qi of YinYangWuXing were studied by old chinese people from the observations on the sun, the moon, the five stars, the Great Bear, and ErShiBaXiu(二十八宿). The origin of Zhaijing's direction ideas is the direction system of ShiPan(式盤) in Qin and Han dynasty. On ShiPan TianGan(天干) Dizi(地支) Fagui TianDiRenGui(天地人鬼) were arranged very systematically into four and 24 directions. DongxiSizhai(東西四宅) theories of Yangzhaisanyao had edited more lately than Zhaijing(宅經), and formed according to Fagui(八卦)'s YinYang(陰陽) principles. But the basic ideas is same with Zhaihing's. It proves that residential Feng Shui theories were constantly improved and modified. And both residential Feng Shui direction ideas of Zhaijing and Yangzhaisanyao are the gentral ideas in old china. The point of that ideas is Sky's four or 24 directions are correspndence with the earth's. It came from the traditional thoughts that Heaven, Earth, and mankind are c0-related and influenced each other according to Qi's changing processes. Gather up above mentioned, the direction ideas of residential Feng Shui is a systematic thoughts of old chinese for harmonizing Tian-Di-Ren-Gui, and is their specific methods for harmonizing the nature's Qi, mankind and spirits.

  • The term 'myositis ossificans' encompasses four categories of clinicopathological disorders. The first, myositis ossificans progressive(fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive), is a rare genetic disease characterized by progressive heterotopic ossification involving skeletal muscle, tendon, ligaments, and fascia, with congenital malformation of the great toes, and usually microdactyly, monophalangism, and mal formed proximal phalanges. with valgus deformity of metatarsophalangeal joint. The ossification begins shortly after birth and may contribute to the patient's death. The second, heterotopic ossificans, can occur in patients with neuromuscular and chronic diseases such as paraplegia, poliomyelitis, polymyositis, bum, tetanus, and infection. But the lesions in these cases often lack the typical histologic features of myositis ossificans. The third, myositis ossificans traumatica, is the most common; it develops in response to soft tissue trauma such as a single severe injury, minor repetitive injures, fracture, joint dislocation, stab wound, or surgical incision. The forth, nontraumatic myositis ossificans, also designated :pseudomalignant osseous tumors of extraskeletal soft tissues' and 'psedomalignant myositis ossificans', occurs in persons repeated small mechanical injures or nonmechanical soft tissue injuries due to local ischemia, inflammation. or other factors cannot be ruled out in such cases.
