Design of an Efficient Soft-Decision Demapper for Demodulator of DVB-S2 System (DVB-S2 위성 방송 시스템의 수신기를 위한 효율적인 소프트-결정방식 디매퍼 회로 설계)

  • This paper presents an efficient demapper architecture based soft-decision using the phase-section for Digital Video Broadcasting via satellite, Second Generation (DVB-S2). To achieve the satisfactory performance under a very low SNR conditions with the efficient hardware resource utilization, we propose a simple soft-decision demapper architecture using comparators to compare the phase of symbols and memories. The proposed architecture can decrease about 81% of the hardware resource, satisfying the BER requirements of DVB-S2. It has been thoroughly verified with an FPGA board and R&S(R)SFU (Rohde&Schwarz SFU-K108) broadcaast test equipment.

Effect of Heat Transfer and Phase Change of Coolant on the Performance of Mixed-gas Ejection System (냉각제의 분사조건 및 상변화가 혼합가스 사출시스템의 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulations have been carried out to study how coolant injection conditions influence the cooling efficiency and projectile ejection performance in a mixture-gas ejection system (or gas-steam launch system). The 3D single-phase computational model was verified using a 1D model constructed with reference to the previous research and then a two-phase flow computation simulating coolant injection on to hot gas was performed using a DPM (Discrete Phase Model). As a result of varying the coolant flow rate and number of injection holes, cooling efficiency was improved when the number of injection holes were increased. In addition, the change of the coalescence frequency and spatial distribution of coolant droplets caused by the injection condition variation resulted in a change of the droplet diameter, affecting the evaporation rate of coolant. The evaporation was found to be a critical factor in the design optimization of the ejection system by suppressing the pressure drop while the temperature decreases inside the breech.

  • Experimental study for a submerged structure was conducted to protect coastal structures and shorelines. The rectangular submerged structure known as the most efficient shape among various submerged structures in the literature was fabricated at the nose of a rubble mound breakwater. The reflection coefficients and the run-up heights along the slope of a breakwater were measured for different significant wave heights and periods. It is found in this study that the reflection coefficient is affected more relatively by the significant wave period than the significant wave height and the run-up heights are reduced approximately 28% in terms of ${^{RU}}_{2%}$ and 26% in terms of ${^{RU}}_{33%}$, respectively, by the installation of a submerged structure inducing the interception and breaking of waves.

  • 소형 풍력터빈 설계 시 고려해야 할 익형의 선택, 익형의 붙임각 및 Solidity 등이 터빈의 성능에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 한 개의 익형에 대한 공력계수를 이용하여 수학적 모델링을 통하여 최적 붙임각을 예측하여 경향을 파악하였다. 받음각에 따른 익형의 공력특성을 CFD 기법으로 파악한 후 5개의 Blade를 갖는 Turbine의 성능을 익형의 붙임각에 따라 파악하여 최대 성능을 갖는 붙임각을 최종 산출하였다. 익형 선정시 받음각에 대한 양력/항력 곡선을 이동시키는 캠버 익형의 기능보다는 항력 대양력의 비(L/D) 가 최대인 익형을 선정하는 것이 더욱 중요하며, Blade수가 적을수록 Torque의 양은 증가하고 Blade가 6이상이변 효율이 급격히 감소함을 알 수 있다.

Dual Write Buffer Algorithm for Improving Performance and Lifetime of SSDs (이중 쓰기 버퍼를 활용한 SSD의 성능 향상 및 수명 연장 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid write buffer architecture comprised of DRAM and NVRAM on SSD and a write buffer algorithm for the hybrid write buffer architecture. Unlike other write buffer algorithms, the proposed algorithm considers read pages as well as write pages to improve the performance of storage devices because most actual workloads are read-write mixed workloads. Through effectively managing NVRAM pages, the proposed algorithm extends the endurance of SSD by reducing the number of erase operations on NAND flash memory. Our experimental results show that our algorithm improved the buffer hit ratio by up to 116.51% and reduced the number of erase operations of NAND flash memory by up to 56.66%.

  • 최근에 XML은 가독성과 확장성이란 장점 때문에 IPTV나 스마트 TV에서 서비스나 콘텐츠 정보 표현 및 검색을 위한 기술로 많이 사용되고 있다. 특히 TV-Anytime에서 정의한 스키마나 전송 프로토콜을 기본 규격으로 채택하고 필요한 기능을 수용하기 위하여 규격을 확장하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 그러한 장점에도 불구하고 XML은 텍스트 기반으로 정보를 표현함으로써 정보의 양이 커진다는 문제가 존재하고 이를 위하여 다양한 인코딩 방식이 제공되고 있다. 그러나 전송과정에서 문서를 독립된 조각으로 단편화하여 블록단위로 캡슐화하는 과정을 거치면서 인코딩 효율이 급격하게 떨어지게 되는 문제가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 XML 문서를 캡슐화하는 과정에서 단편화를 통해 감소되는 인코딩 효율을 보완할 수 있는 블록 단위의 문자열 테이블 방식을 제안하고 실험을 통한 성능 분석을 제공하였다.

The Predilution Effect of Al-based Liquid Coagulants for the Optimal Efficacy (최적 응집 효율을 위한 Al계 액상 응집제의 희석 효과)

  • The coagulation efficacy of Al-based coagulants (such as Alum, PACS, and PACC) was investigated to ascertain removal efficiencies of turbidity and phosphate with variation of solution pH, coagulant dosages, and pre-dilution ratios. The efficacy of Al-based coagulants was maximized in the pH range of 6~9. Under the initial condition of pH 8, $10mg/L\;{PO_4}^{3-}$, and 20 NTU, Al-based coagulants exhibited a similar efficacy in the removal of turbidity, whereas the removal efficiency of phosphate was clearly dependent on the basicity of coagulants: Alum (0%) > PACS (45~50%) > PACC (70%). At high initial turbidity of 100 NTU, polymeric coagulants, such as PACS and PACC, exhibited a higher removal efficiency of turbidity compared to Alum. In comparison to direct injection of coagulants at low initial turbidity (20 NTU), 500~2000 times pre-diluted Alum, exhibited reduced coagulation efficacy; however, removal efficiencies of turbidity and phosphate increased with the increase of retention time. Pres-diluted PACC exhibited the enhanced coagulation efficacy followed by silght decrease of the removal efficiencies with increase of the retention time. At high initial turbidity of 100 NTU, pre-diluted Alum and PACC exhibited higher removal efficiencies of turbidity and phosphate.

  • For the restoration of construction industry, the government have offered the policy since the end of 1990. It has offered to develop the world-class technology and establish the effective production structure. In the government policy, the delivery and contracting method has improved so that construction industry could be recognized. Foreign countries have conducted the R&D and application of Innovative Contracting for improvement of facilities, reduction of LCC and innovation of contractor. Among the Innovative Contracting, 'Performance Warranty Contracting' is defined that A guarantee of the integrity of a product and of the makers responsibility for the replacement or repair of deficiencies. Performance Warranty Contracting is used for technology developments of contractor, improvement of quality, reduction of LCC, prevention of early deficiencies and reduction of owner's inspection works. This paper analyzes concept and effects of Performance Warranty Contracting and presents considerations according to the introduction.

Efficient Mechanism for receiver and sink node in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 수신 및 싱크 노드를 위한 효율적인 데이터 전송 방법)

  • In wireless sensor networks, data packets are send to the sink node. So traffic increases near the sink node. This causes delay and collision. To solve this problem, the proposed mechanism used half rotation antenna. By using a half rotation antenna, the delay of data packets can be reduced. Also we propose a method to efficiently use the energy of the node using BRN(backup receiver node) and increase the lifetime of the entire networks. Our numerical analysis and simulation results show that our mechanism outperforms RI-MAC protocol in terms of energy consumption and transmission delay.

  • It is necessary to apply SSB modulation method with high bandwidth efficiency to the DS-CDMA mobile communication systems in order to accommodate the increasing number of voice users as well as the broad band and high data rate service in the future. Even though the bandwidth efficiency increases if SSB modulation is applied to BPSK-DS/CDMA, its performance gets degraded because of the increased multiple access interference. Therefore for eliminating the increased multiple access interference, the SSB/BPSK-DS/CDMA with successive interference canceller(SIC) is proposed and its performance and capacity are analyzed. With the limited system bandwidth, it is shown that the SSB/BPSK-DS/CDMA with SIC can accommodate more capacity than the conventional BPSK-DS/CDMA with SIC.
