Structural MRI(sMRI) imaging is used to extract morphometric features after Grey Matter (GM), White Matter (WM) for several univariate and multivariate method, and Cerebro-spinal Fluid (CSF) segmentation. A new approach is applied for the diagnosis of very mild to mild AD. We propose the classification method of Alzheimer disease patients from normal controls by combining morphometric features and Gaussian Mixture Models parameters along with MMSE (Mini Mental State Examination) score. The combined features are fed into Multi-kernel SVM classifier after getting rid of curse of dimensionality using principal component analysis. The experimenral results of the proposed diagnosis method yield up to 96% stratification accuracy with Multi-kernel SVM along with high sensitivity and specificity above 90%.

Concrete structures are commonly exposed to freezing-thawing condition. This freezing-thawing action changes the pore structure of concrete, and it can reduce the durability of concrete. In this study, the change of the internal pore structure and durability of concrete due to freezing-thawing action are investigated. According to results, the excellent durability records were reported by the existing evaluation methods for all mixes. However, the pores, 50~100nm size in diameter, are increased in concrete specimens exposed to freezing-thawing action, and the chloride penetration resistance was significantly reduced. The linear relationship between pore structure and chloride penetration resistance was shown in water cured concrete. Meanwhile, the linear relationship was decreased when concrete is exposed to freezing-thawing condition. It is desirable to review the criterion of durability evaluation for concrete specimens exposed to freezing-fthawing and chloride attack condition, simultaneously.

Extensive research effort has been made during the last decade to utilize wireless smart sensors for evaluating and monitoring structural integrity of civil engineering structures. The wireless smart sensor commonly has sensing and embedded computation capabilities as well as wireless communication that provide strong potential to overcome shortcomings of traditional wired sensor systems such as high equipment and installation cost. However, sensor malfunctioning particularly in case of long-term monitoring and unreliable wireless communication in harsh environment are the critical issues that should be properly tackled for a wider adoption of wireless smart sensors in practice. This study presents a wireless smart sensor network(WSSN) that can estimate unmeasured responses for the purpose of data recovery at unresponsive sensor nodes. A software program that runs on WSSN is developed to estimate the unmeasured responses from the measured using the Kalman filter. The performance of the developed network software is experimentally verified by estimating unmeasured acceleration responses using a simply-supported beam.

In this study, a vision-based displacement measurement system is developed to accurately measure the displacement of a structure with locating the camera at arbitrary position. The previous vision-based system brings error when the optical axis of a camera has an angle with the measured structure, which limits the applicability at large structures. The developed system measures displacement by processing the images of a target plate that is attached on the measured position of a structure. To measure displacement regardless of the angle between the optical axis of the camera and the target plate, planar homography is employed to match two planes in image and world coordinate systems. To validate the performance of the present system, a laboratory test is carried out using a small 2-story shear building model. The result shows that the present system measures accurate displacement of the structure even with a camera significantly angled with the target plate.

This paper presents materials and processing technique to manufacture low viscous strain-hardening cementitious composite which is suitable for structures requiring low viscosity of materials. The micromechanics and fracture mechanics tools coupled with processing techniques were adopted to achieve low viscosity of composites as well as high tensile strain capacity. Optimal volume and length of fibers and interfacial properties between fibers and matrix for composites with tensile strength of 2~3MPa were determined on the basis of the micromechanical analysis and the steady-state cracking theory. Then six mixtures were determined and the experiment was carried out to evaluate the viscosity and uniaxial tensile performance of those. From the test results, it is verified that the strain-hardening cementitious composite with low viscosity suitable for grouting applications in fresh state as well as high ductility over 1.5% in hardened state can be feasible.

The failure of tenon in a traditional wood-framed structure may collapse of the entire structure. This study evaluates the strength and stiffness of tenon joints between the beams and pillars through experimental study and suggests reinforcing method of the tenon joint without dismantling the main structures. The main experimental parameters are the number, distance, shape, and inserting depth of spiral-shaped reinforcing steels. As the thickness of the tenon in beams increases, the strength and the initial shear stiffness of the joint increases and, however, the tenons in pillar becomes weaker, resulting in the safety problem of the structure. It is recommended that three spiral-shaped reinforcing steels be placed in the central parts of the tenon to effectively improve the strength and the shear stiffness of the joint.

50 year-old masonry buildings which had been constructed using lime mortar have caused lots of problems because of using different material, cement mortar, when they repair them. Also, there is little information on structural capacities and details of masonry buildings built using lime mortar. In addition, it is difficult to evaluate the structural capacities of the buildings which were often constructed by untrained labors. To preserve the original masonry construction, the study on their construction materials and methodologies has to be carried out. This paper provides basic information for establishing standard details of masonry works using lime mortar in order to overcome these problems when cultural properties are repaired or retrofitted. To do this, compression tests of lime mortar were preformed with the parameters of mixing ratios, mixing material, curing time and curing conditions etc. Based on the test results, the differences between lime mortar and cement mortar were specified and the structural characteristics of lime mortar were also presented in this paper.

In this study, a structural concrete square beam was developed using the centrifugal molding technique. In order to secure the bending stiffness of the cross section, the hollow rate of the cross section was set to 10% or less. Instead of using the current poor mixture of concrete, a special formwork for producing a centrifugal square beam was manufactured, and a concrete mixing ratio with a high slump (150-200) and a design strength of 100 MPa or more was developed and applied. The produced centrifugally formed rectangular beams were subjected to performance tests according to the standard bending and shear test standards for centrifugally formed members. The static load test results for the four specimens exceeded both the nominal bending strength and nominal shear strength, which are design values through structural design, proving the structural reliability of the ultra-high-strength centrifugally formed square beam.

Cardiac CT has been proven to provide diagnostic and prognostic evaluation of coronary artery disease for cardiovascular risk stratification and treatment decision-making based on rapid technological development and various research evidence. Coronary CT angiography has emerged as a gateway test for coronary artery disease that can reduce invasive angiography due to its high negative predictive value, but the diagnostic specificity is relatively low. However, coronary CT angiography is likely to overcome its limitations through functional evaluation to identify the hemodynamic significance of coronary artery disease by analyzing myocardial perfusion and fractional flow reserve through cardiac CT. Recently, studies have been actively conducted to incorporate artificial intelligence to make this more objective and reproducible. In this review, functional imaging techniques of cardiac computerized tomography are explored.
Clinicians usually use stethoscopic auscultation for the diagnosis of heart diseases. However, the heart sound signal has varying characteristics due to the noise and/or the conditions of the patients. Also, it is not easy for junior clinicians to find the acoustical differences between different kinds or heart sound signals. which may result in errors in the diagnosis. Thus it will be quite useful for the clinicians to make use of an automatic classification system using signal processing techniques. In this paper, we propose to use hidden Markov models in stead of artificial neural networks which have been conventionally used for the automatic classification of heart sounds. In the experiments classifying heart sound signals. we could see that the proposed methods were quite successful in the classification accuracy.
