Empirical Study on the Needs and Effectiveness of the Educational Program for Successful Aging (성공적 노후 교육프로그램의 수요도 및 효과성에 대한 실증적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was twofold; one was to investigate the elderly people's educational needs on successful aging(Study 1), and the other was to construct the educational program for successful aging and evaluate its effectiveness(Study 2). For Study 1, data were collected with structured questionnaires from the 166 elderly people participating in the government job creation projects for the aged in Gwangju and analyzed using frequency analysis and means-of-different tests. It was found that most of the elderly people strongly desired the education successful aging in terms of health care, finance, social participation, leasure, social network and self acceptance. In Study 2, the educational program for successful aging was constructed based on the results of Study 1 and the effectiveness of the program was evaluated using one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. Data were collected from 34 voluntary participants in the program before and after the implementation of the program and analyzed using the paired samples t-test technique. It was found that the program had a positive effect on the improvement of the elderly people's understanding of successful aging in terms of health care, finance, social participation, leasure, social network and self acceptance. Based on these results, the implementation of the educational program designed in this study was recommended to improve the elderly people's quality of life and the directions for future research were advanced. successful aging, educational needs, educational program, effectiveness.

The Effects of Emotional & Social Preparation for Aging on Successful Aging & Mediating Effects of Social Support (정사사회적 노후준비가 성공적 노화에 미치는 영향과 사회적 지지의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this research is to take a look at the factors that influence the successful aging as the aging population grows. For this purpose, psychological and social concepts were defined for successful aging of the elderly with disability. It was also verified that the effects of emotional & social preparation for aging on successful aging and mediating effects of social support. The subjects of this study are 3,910 who are over the age of 65. They were originally extracted from the 4th main survey and 3rd, 4th additional survey of Korean Retirement and Income Study. For data analysis purposes, SPSS 25.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro v2.16 were used. The results of this study are as followed. Firstly, emotional & social preparation for aging turned out to have a significant direct influence on successful aging. Secondly, emotional & social preparation for aging has a indirect effect on successful aging through social support. On the basis of the results, this study provided the social welfare policy and practical suggestions to enhance the preparation for aging and social support.

Relations between the Middle Aged's Perception of Successful Aging and their Preparations for the Old Age (중년층의 성공적 노화인식과 노후준비와의 관계에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of the middle aged's perception of successful aging on their preparations for the old age. We used data from 350 participants, aged 35-64 in Seoul-Gyonggi region. The hierachial regression analysis estimated the relation between the middle aged's perception on successful aging and their preparations for the old age. The findings indicate that the middle aged's level of preparations for the old age was slightly higher than average. The level of their emotional preparation appeared highest and the level of economical preparation showed lowest. The perception of successful aging indicated relatively high, and especially the level of comfortable everyday life showed highest. The results also showed that personal characteristics influencing on preparations for the old age were sex, age, marriage status, religion, occupation, monthly income, health condition, level of plan for the old age, and social activities frequency, and demonstrated that the perception of successful aging effected on preparations for the old age positively.

Implicit Validation of the Concept of Successful Aging for Korean Elderly (한국 노인의 성공적 노후 개념에 대한 암시적 타당화)

  • The purpose of the this research is to find out what basic factors of aging for korean elderly(above 65years old). First of all, 90 preliminary questions were developed from 551 questionnaires. In addition, some practices of the composition factors were carried out from another 552 seniors and additional tests were tried for composition validity, certified validity and successful aging standards from other 399 elders. The survey showed that the standard of the successful aging for korean elderly, which was composed of 47 questions, displayed satisfaction of everyday life, off-spring's success, psychological support, positive activity. sense of self effectiveness, mental stability, satisfaction of spousal relationship and family support. The reliability of the Validation of Successful Aging for Korean Elderly showed high internal consistency of 0.932. It is also verified that the relationship between the factors and the questions has statistically meaningful, which makes it possible to confirm the reliability of the structure of the factors.

Influence of Elderly People's Lifestyle on Successful Aging (노인의 라이프스타일이 성공적 노후에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed at investigating the effects of sub-variables of elderly people's lifestyle health and leisure oriented pursuits, outdoor and challenge pursuits, security and material pursuits, family oriented pursuits, and peer oriented pursuits on what they perceive to be successful later years. The background of this study was that there has been few study on the older population in Korea with focus on their cultural and traditional norms. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of elderly people's lifestyle on what they perceive to be successful later years, thereby identifying practical implications for better social welfare associated with successful later years. Analysis was carried out of self reported questionnaires and self-interviews with elderly people aged over 65 frequenting a welfare center for elders and a community center in a city in Korea. In order to examine the effects, a reliability test, a descriptive analysis, a correlation analysis, and a multi-regression analysis were performed. The results of the analysis for sub-variables of lifestyle showed that health and leisure oriented pursuits, outdoor and challenge pursuits, security and material pursuits, family oriented pursuits, and peer oriented pursuits had significant positive impact on successful later years. The two most influential were peer oriented and family oriented pursuits. Drawing on the results, this study suggests that what is needed for dejected and lonely elderly members in the society is to provide them with opportunities for developing and keeping good relationships with friends and family members and there is a need for a system where old people, as consumers of cultural capital, can have easy access to a variety of cultural resources and activities at a local and regional level.

The Study on the Development of the 'Successful Aging' Scale for Korean Elderly (한국 노인의 '성공적 노후 척도' 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study attempts to develop the scale of 'Successful Aging' for Korean elderly. It follows fives: (1)developing 105 items based on the literature reviews, (2)performing the 1st survey to confirm and reduce items, (3)verifying the content validity through the professional group and the elderly focused group, (4)performing the 2nd survey to explore the factors of 'Successful Aging' and (5)performing the 3rd survey to identify the construct validity and concurrent validity. The scale constructs four factors with 30 items. The four factors are confirmed : (1)self efficacy, (2)satisfaction with adult children's success, (3)couple life like companion, (4)self control. The reliability of this scale is 0.94 and the relationship between the items and each factor are statistically significant by the confirmatory factor analysis. Thus, the content validity is verified. Also the correlation with the successful aging and the life satisfaction is 0.69 and then the concurrent validity is verified. This 'Successful Aging Scale' for Korean elderly will contribute to use as the socio-metrics at the welfare practice for aging.

Relations among Personal, Occupational Characteristics and Preparation for the Old Age - Focused on the Workers in the Banwol·Siwha Industrial Complex- (근로자의 개인적·직업적 특성과 노후준비와의 관계 - 반월·시화공단 근로자를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the general concept and preparation process for successful aging. At the same time another object is to find out factors which were affecting influences on the preparations for the old age and analyze the relationships between the factors and preparation for old age. 280 questionnaires were distributed to over 40 years-old workers working in Banwol and Siwha industrial complex in Kyeonggi-do. Using 261 questionnaires, frequency analysis, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis, etc were executed with SPSS 18.0 to fulfill the purposes. Findings of the study are as follows. First, health condition had a positive effect on the general preparation for old age, but age, educational career, monthly income, religion and the number of children had partially positive effects. Second, job satisfaction had a positive effect on physical and economical preparation for old age, but job commitment had a positive effect on economical preparation only. Third, Age, educational career, spouse, religion, health condition and the number of children showed different effects on those preparations.

The Effects of Veterans' Perception of Old age on the Preparation for Old Age Plan (예비 전역자의 노후생활인식이 노후설계준비에 미치는 영향)

  • This study analyzes the perception of the old age life effects on the preparation for old age plan for veterans who are somewhat isolated from our society in spite of the increasing importance of the old age plan due to the rapid population aging society in Korea. The result of the study shows that meaningful differences in terms of characteristics of sociology of population are rank, level of education, religion, composition of family members in old age life plan in two parts(economic, leisure), whereas only property in physical part has a meaningful difference. That indicates the result was reflected by the character of military. The study on how veterans' perception of the old life affects the old age plan applied two contrasting factors - 'the successful perception of old age life' and 'the perception of expected matters in old age'. That represents those factors(economic, leisure) made positive effects on preparation for old age plan, but not in physical part. 'Expected perception of matters' made regulation effect, but 'success of old age perception' didn't in terms of regulation effect of learning activity as part of the veterans vocational training programs.

  • Purpose: This study examine the relationships retirement plans, perception of successful aging and attitude toward retirement nurses. Methods: The subjects of this study 200 nurses at two hospitals in C City. The data collection period from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, 2011. Results: The degree of retirement significant according to age, marital status, education level, dependent, duration of employment, shift, department, annual salary. he degree of economic retirement plan showed significant differences according to age, marital status, education level, dependent home, duration of employment, department, annual salary. he degree of physical retirement plan showed statistically significant differences according to age, marital status, dependent, department. The degree of emotional retirement plan showed significant differences according to age, department. Conclusion: mprove the retirement of clinical nurse, we need a systematic based on physical and mental health.
