  • Personal Rapid Transit(PRT) has emerged as a promising transportation mode for transit-oriented sustainable communities. In this study, an alternative design of questionnaire survey is proposed in order to capture traveler's perception of an unexperienced transportation mode. This study aims at predicting the mode choice diversion behavior of potential PRT users who do not have experience of using it previously, considering their willingness-to-pay. The proposed model was applied to predict an aggregate forecast of PRT patronage for the city of Songdo where PRT is considered to be constructed. For validation of the proposed model, the price elasticity of PRT demand was analyzed, compared with existing models. The analysis results suggest that the proposed design of questionnaire survey is able to capture respondents' attitude and perception to unexperienced transportation mode in an effective manner. Also, they show that the proposed diversion rate model is more realistic than existing models in explaining the effects of users' willingness-to-pay for predicting PRT patronage.

  • We develop liquefaction resistance curves, which represent the correlation between cyclic resistance ratio (CRR) and number of cycles (N) to estimate the build-up of residual excess pore pressure from simple shear tests performed for this study and also from published literature. The liquefaction curve is calculated from two models. The comparisons show that one of the models is not reliable because it underestimates CRR. The scatter of the data is shown to be significantly reduced when CRR is normalized to the resistance ratio at N = 15 ($CRR_{N=15}$). Use of the normalization is particularly useful because CRR can be easily estimated from field tests. From normalization, we propose mean, upper, and lower curves. The corresponding design equation and its parameters are also proposed. We believe that the proposed curves can be used for effective stress site response analyses and evaluation of the seismic performance of port structures.

  • In this study, 24 prototype specimens were tested to find out the shear behavior and strength of large anchorage system exceeding 50mm(2") in anchor bolt diameter($d_0$) and 635mm(25") in effective embedment depth($h_{ef}$) not addressed by ACI349-06 Appendix B. Test variables are anchor bolt diameter($d_0$ = 63.5, 76.2, 88.9mm), effective embedment depth($h_{ef}$=635, 762mm), and edge distance($c_1$=381, 508, 762mm). Concrete compressive strength is constant($f_{ck}$=38MPa). Test results ($V_{test}$) were overestimated by $V_{aci06}$(shear strength by ACI 349-06) and $V_{ccd}$(shear strength by CCD method). In large anchorage system exceeding 50mm(2") of anchor bolt diameter($d_0$) and 635mm(25") of anchor bolt effective embedment depth($h_{ef}$), the bolt diameter variation and effective embedment depth($h_{ef}$) has no influence on the shear strenth, But, according to the analysis results of the feature ratio on edge distance($c_1$) and anchor bolt diameter, the feature ratio become smaller, which means anchor bolt diameter is bigger, predicted ratio of test results and predicted equation is larger. It was found that anchor bolt diameter is immediate cause of deterioration in the shear capacity of large anchorage system. To improve and extend the validity of current design recommendations further theoretical and numerical work is needed.

  • RC flat plates may be governed by a serviceability as well as a strength condition, and a construction sequence and its impact on the distributions of gravity loads among slabs tied by shores are decisive factors influencing short and long term behaviors of flat plate. Over-loading and tensile cracking in early-aged slabs significantly increase the deflection of a flat plate system under construction, and a reshoring work may be helpful in reducing slab deflections by controlling the vertical distributions of loads in a multi-shored flat plate system. In this study, a effect of reshoring works on short and long term deflections of flat plate systems are analyzed. The slab construction loads with various reshoring schemes and slab design and construction conditions are defined by a simplified method, and the practical calculation of slab deflections with considering construction sequences and concrete cracking and long term effects is applied. From parametric studies, the reshoring works are verified to reduce slab deflections, and the optimized conditions for the reshoring works and slab design and constructions are discussed.

  • In this letter, we propose a novel printed helix antenna for RFID reader in UHF band. The printed strip line of the antenna is first wound up outside a polygonal shaped layer and then the winding continues on an inner layer to control the overall gain and the radiation pattern. In addition, the winding pitch angles on each layer have either negative or positive values resulting in the broad CP bandwidth. The detail structure of the antenna was optimized using Pareto genetic algorithm(GA), so as to obtain excellent performances for RFID reader antennas. The optimized two-layered polygonal helix was fabricated on the cardboard of a flexible substrate and the performances were measured and compared with the simulations. The fabricated antenna was made up of copper tape which can adhere to a flexible cardboard and had 21.4 % matching bandwidth, 31.9 % CP bandwidth, readable range of $5.5m^2$ with kr=3.2. Also based on the current distribution of the strip line of the antenna and sensitivity of the antenna bents points, we confirmed that the antenna has the quarter-wave transformer near the feed for the broad matching bandwidth and radiates the traveling wave for the broad CP bandwidth using the bent strip line.

  • Most studies on the vibration analysis of a beam-column with ends elastically restrained and various intermediate constraints have been based on the Euler beam theory, which is inadequate for beam-columns of low slenderness ratios. In this paper, analytical methods for vibration and dynamic sensitivity of a Timoshenko beam-column with ends elastically restrained and various intermediate constraints are presented. Firstly, an exact solution method is shown. Since the exact method requires considerable computational effort, a Rayleigh-Ritz analysis is also investigated. In the latter two kinds of trial functions are examined for comparisions : eigenfunctions of the base system(the system without intermediate constraints) and polynomials having properties corresponding to the eigenfunctions of the base system. The results of some numerical Investigations show that the Rayleigh-Ritz analysis using the characteristic polynomials is competitive with the exact solutions in accuracy, and that it is much more efficient in computations than using the eigenfunctions of the base system, especially in the dynamic sensitivity analysis. In addition, the prediction of the changes of natural frequencies due to the changes of design variables based on the first order sensitivity is in good agreements with that by the ordinary reanalysis as long as the changes of design variables are moderate.

  • This study was compared the degree of consolidation by Hyperbolic, Curve fitting, Asaoka's, Monden's methods using measured value with theoretical curve in consideration of smear effect and well resistance. The results of the study were summarized as follows ; 1. The degree of consolidation by Hyperbolic method was underestimated than the degree of consolidation by Curve fitting, Asaoka's, and Monden's methods. 2. Typical range of horizontal coefficient of consolidation was $C_h=(2{\sim}3)C_v$ in the case considering smear effect and well resistance, and $C_h=(0.5{\sim}2.5)C_v$ in the case disregarding smear effect and well resistance. 3. The degree of consolidation obtained by ground settlement monitoring was nearly same value when the coefficient of permeability of smear zone by back analysis was shown the half that of in-situ and the diameter of smear zone was shown double that of mendrel. 4. Increasing of diameter reduction ratio of drain, the time of consoildation was delayed. The affection of well resistance the case of small coefficient of permeability was much more than that in the case of large coefficient of permeability. It was recommended that design of diameter reduction of drain consider smear effect and well resistance.

  • Double-leaf blast-resistant doors consisting of steel box and slab are application-specific structures installed at the entrances of protective facilities. In these structural systems, certain spacing is provided between the door and wall. However, variation in the boundary condition and structural behavior due to this spacing are not properly considered in the explosion analysis and design. In this study, the structural response and failure behavior based on two variables such as the spacing and blast pressure were analyzed using the finite element method. The results revealed that the two variables affected the overall structural behavior such as the maximum and permanent deflections. The degree of contact due to collision between the door and wall and the impact force applied to the door varied according to the spacing. Hence, the shear-failure behavior of the concrete slab was affected by this impact force. Doors with spacing of less than 10 mm were vulnerable to shear failure, and the case of approximately 15-mm spacing was more reasonable for increasing the flexural performance. For further study, tests and numerical research on the structural behavior are needed by considering other variables such as specifications of the structural members and details of the slab shear design.

  • The steel frame modular housing of which the research and development has been actively carried out recently cannot be constructed through monolithic placement like the reinforced concrete deck of general structure due to the characteristics of construction method of production in the factory and assembly on the site. And floor vertical vibration and deflection caused by inhabitants' activities may become an important issue in the aspect of usability evaluation due to a decrease in the section size of member, a decrease in weight, and so on. Therefore, this study evaluated the vibration performance of deck by using formula of AISC Design Guide 11(hereinafter AISC formula) which was practically used in general for modules where a stud was and wasn't installed at the center of beam in the longitudinal direction in the modular housing to be studied, and examined the applicability of AISC formula through comparison with the results of analysis using a general-purpose analysis program. On the basis of this, a structural cause for an error to occur between analysis result and AISC formula in the deck of module in which a stud was installed was analysed, and measures for considering this were suggested. Besides, an analysis model with the variables of measures for improving the floor vibration performance of modular housing to be studied was established. And measures having excellent vibration performance and economic feasibility were suggested through vibration response analysis and economic evaluation.
