In this work, a smart skin of multi-layer structure is designed and manufactured. Through the compression test, the characteristic of smart skin behavior was examined. We have predicted stress of each layer and the first failed layer of the smart skin structure by using MSC/NASTRAN. The finite element model was verified by comparing measured data from the compression test and result from the geometrically linear/non-linear analysis. The finite element model was used for obtaining design data from the parametric study. It was confirmed that shear moduli of honeycomb core affect the buckling load of smart skin where shear deformation was considerable.
This paper presents a modified arc-length method for the nonlinear finite element analysis of a structure which is loaded in incremental and fixed forces, simultaneously. The main idea of the method is to separate the displacement term by the constant force from that by the incremental force. Presented method is applied to the nonlinear analysis of isotropic shell structures separately loaded by lateral pressure or compression, and shows the excellent agreement with previous results. As an illustrative example of the applicability of the present algorithm, a parametric study is performed on the nonlinear buckling analysis of composite cylindrical panels under the combined load of the incremented compression and the constant lateral pressure.
The effects of fiber waviness on tensile/compressive nonlinear elastic behaviors of graphite/epoxy unidirectional composite materials are studied theoretically and experimentally. New constitutive models are proposed to predict elastic properties and tensile/compressive nonlinear behaviors of composite materials. Three types of wavy pattern are considered: uniform, graded and localized fiber waviness. Complementary energy density and incremental method are used to incorporate the material and geometrical nonlinearities due to fiber waviness. Tensile/compressive tests are conducted on the specimens with fiber waviness. It is found that the predictions are in good agreement with the experimental results.
Concrete plasticity models fol the analysis of reinforced concrete members in plane stress are studied. The proposed plasticity model for reinforced concrete provides a unified approach combining plasticity theory and damage models. It addresses strength mhancement under rnultiaxial compression. and tensile cracking damage. The model uses multiple failure criteria for compressive crushing and tensile cracking. For tensile cracking behavior. rotating-crack and fixed-crack plasticity models are compared. As crushing failure criterion, the Drucker-Prager and the von Mises models are used for comparison. The model uses now and existing damnge models fbr tension softening, tension stiffening. and compression softening dup to tensilt. cracking. Finite element analyses using the unified method are compatxd with existing rxpcrimcntal r.esults. To vei.ify the proposcd crushing and cracking plasticity models, the experiments have load capacities govc11.nc.d either by compressive crushing of'concrete or by yi~lding of' reinforcing steel.
The effect of steel-fiber contents on the compressive behavior of ultra high performance cementitious composites (UHPCC) was studied to propose a compressive behavior model for UHPCC. The experiments considered fiber contents of 0~5 vol.% and the results indicated that compressive strength and corresponding strain as well as elastic modulus were improved as the fiber contents increased. Compared to the previous study results obtained from concrete with compressive strength of 100MPa or less, the reinforcement effect on strength showed similar tendency, while the effect on the strain and elastic modulus were much less. Strength, strain, and elastic modulus according to the fiber contents were presented as a linear function of fiber reinforcement index (RI). Fiber reinforcement in UHPCC had no influence on the shape of compressive behavioral curve. Considering its effect on compressive strength, strain, and elastic modulus, a compressive stress-strain relation for UHPCC was proposed.

This paper concentrates on the analysis of reinforced concrete(R/C) structures subjected to monotonic loading, from zero to ultimate loads. Tensile cracking, the nonlinear stress-strain relationship for concrete and reinforcement are taken into account the concrete is assumed to be elastic in tension region and elasto-hardening plastic in compression region. The Kupfer's failure criteria and associated flow rule are adopted to govern the plastic behavior of the concrete. The reinforcing bar is considered as a elasto-hardening platic material. The tension stiffening effect of the concrete between cracks is also considered. The numerical error depends on the used finite element mesh size is reduced by correcting the slope of strain softening region of the concrete according to the developed energy criteria.

The proposed model can predict the compressive behaviors of concrete confined with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) jacket. To model confining concrete by FRP jackets, the hypoelasticity-based constitutive law of concrete In tri-axial stress states has been presented. The increment of strength of concrete has been determined by the failure surface of concrete in tri-axial states, and its corresponding peak strain is computed by the strain enhancement factor that is proposed in the present study, Therefore, the newly proposed model is a load-dependent confinement model of concrete wrapped by FRP jackets to compare the previous models which are load-independent confinement models. The behavior of FRP jackets has been modeled using the mechanics of orthotropic laminated composite materials in two-dimension. The developed model is implemented into the incremental analysis of compressive tests. The verification study with several different experiments shows that the model is able to adequately capture the behavior of the compression test by including better estimations of the axial responses as well as the lateral response of FRP-confined concrete cylinders.
