The Reciprocal Effects of a Previous Brand Extension and Follower Brand Extension's Market Performance on a Parent Brand of a Follower Brand's Extension Product (선행 브랜드확장과 추격 브랜드확장의 시장성과가 추격확장제품의 모브랜드에 미치는 반향효과)

  • The present research investigates the reciprocal effects of a previous brand extension and follower brand extension's market performance on a parent brand of a follower brand's extension product using 2(previous brand extension's market performance: success vs. failure)${\times}$2(follower brand extension's market performance: success vs. failure) between-subjects factorial design. The verification of the hypothesis is composed through 2-way ANOVA. As a result, the consumers' evaluation of the parent brand of a follower brand's extension product when the follower brand's extension succeed was more positive when the previous brand's extension has failed. However, when the follower brand's extension has failed, the consumers' evaluation of the parent brand of a follower brand's extension product was more negative when the previous brand's extension has succeeded.

  • In this study, we investigate the relative effectiveness of the two types of brand extensions (sequential extensions vs. direct extensions) in dissimilar extensions and examine the moderating role of two key variables - brand concept(functional brand vs. symbolic brand) and price of target extension product(low vs. high). The results from two experiments show that consumers evaluate the target extension product more favorably when brand is extended sequentially to dissimilar categories than when it is extended directly. However, the difference of target extension product evaluation between sequential extensions and direct extensions decrease when brand is symbolic and price of target extension product is high. Theoretical and managerial implications of the finding are discussed and inplications for future research are suggested.

  • In the severely competitive market, brand extension strategy has become a key strategy to the companies that are trying to expand in the new market and to cut down the marketing cost. In conclusion, following results are deduced. First, hypothesis 1(H-1) refers to the relationship between image of extension brand and attitude of extension brand, and it shows path-coefficients value of 0.43, and t-value of 4.21 which supports the hypothesis statistically. Second, H-2 is the result of the analysis of relationship between attitude of extension brand and loyalty of extension brand and consequently the hypothesis is supported by the path-coefficients value of 0.29 and t-value of 3.08. The results of this study provided very useful information for both foodservice industry and academics. At first, in the theocratical point of view, this study suggests a new concept the foodservice brand extension. Consequently in marketing point of view, the results of this study recommend several strategies of foodservice brand extension using foodservice image, attitude and loyalty.

  • The present study analyzed the effects of brand extension on the existing parent brand by applying the media brand extension model which previous studies had suggested based on consumer based brand equity model. Based on previous studies, the present study constructed a research model in which pre-brand extension parent brand evaluation, brand portfolio quality variance, perceived number of brand extensions, perceived fit between parent brand and brand extended channel, and brand extended channel evaluation are supposed to affect post-brand extension brand extension evaluation, and tested the media brand extension feedback effects model through structural equation modeling. The analysis results show that pre-brand extension parent brand evaluation, brand portfolio quality variance, perceived fit, and brand extended channel evaluation affect post-brand extension parent brand evaluation while the effect of perceived number of brand extensions is not significant.

  • 한국브랜드디자인학회는 학문적, 사회적 발전을 위한 연구, 학술 단체로서 국가와 기업의 효과적 브랜드 구축을 위한 연구와 학술발표 및 사회현장에서의 브랜드 및 브랜드디자인의 실질적 사례발굴과 현황을 조사하고 있다. 본 연구는 한국브랜드디자인학회 제27호에 게제된 내용이다. 연구 목적은 온 오프라인을 막론하고 많은 유통업체에서 적극적으로 개발하고 있는 PB브랜드, 상품, 패키지의 변화의 필요성을 강조하기 위한 것이다. 본 연구의 범위는 대형 마트, 대형 마트의 전체 매출의 75%를 차지하고 3대 대형 마트의 그로서리(Grocery) 제품을 중심으로 선행 연구, 자료 등을 연구 분석하고 PB브랜드 패키지 디자인의 발전 방향을 제언하고 결론에 도달하였다. 연구를 통해 PB가 변화하고 있는 유통환경, 소비환경, 소비자의 의식에서 대응하고 PB의 순기능을 지속하기 위해서는 브랜드 제품 패키지 디자인의 큰 변화의 요구되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. PB가 가격 할인이라는 경쟁력만으로 강력한 NB들과 자사의 한정된 유통공간에서 경쟁하기에는 많은 한계를 가지고 있음을 인식해야 할 필요가 있다. PB가 가지고 있는 한계는 대부분 관여도가 낮은 Me-too 제품으로 저렴한 가격을 유지해야 하며 적극적인 프로모션 활동에 제한이 있다는 것이다. 대부분의 PB브랜드는 다양한 상품군을 제품의 속성, 가격 등을 중심으로 한 네이밍과 레터마트로 디자인되어 있으며 NB브랜드에 비해 전략적인 부분에서 많은 차이가 있었다. PB는 프리미엄 브랜드로의 필연적으로 확장되어야 하는데 반해 브랜드 전략에 한계가 있음도 확인하여 PB브랜드와 패키지 디자인은 전략적이고, 차별화된 메시지와 정보, 확장성을 고려한 디자인과 특정한 방법으로 제한된 디자인에 대한 연구의 필요성을 제언하였다. 본 연구의 선행 연구 자료를 통한 연구와 주관적인 제언이라는 한계를 극복하기 위한 후속 연구가 필요하다.

  • This study is to investigate the influence of brand benefit on brand extension, especially focusing on the mediating effect of trademark belief and the moderating effect of categorical similarity. This study restates that brand benefit affect consumers' brand extension attitude and confirms that it is completely mediated by trademark belief. In addition, this study finds that categorical similarity moderates the effects of brand benefit on brand extension attitude. The results of this study suggest a theoretical implication that trademark belief can be used as one of the brand extension strategies and a practical implication that the brand communication strategy based on brand benefits should be changed with the categorical similarity.

  • Most of the prior researches in brand extension evaluation have utilized purchase intention as a n effective variable to assess the effectiveness of brand extensions. In contrast, the author proposes that trial intention is to better predict consumers' behavioral response in the newly launched brand extension markets where relate to high risk and uncertainty. Furthermore, the study explores the effects of attitude toward parent brand and consumers' characteristics (perceived similarity and consumption experience) on trial intention of brand extensions. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the data collection was conducted for actual consumers who had experience using parent brand products. This study employed experiment and questionnaire survey and collected data of 186 was analyzed using clustering analysis and regression analysis. The main results are as follows. First, attitude toward parent brand has a positive effect on trial intention of the extensions. Second, perceived similarity and consumption experience of parent brand have moderating effects on the relation of attitude toward parent brand and trial intention of brand extensions. The results provide that both industry and academic researchers with a guide to process trial intention of brand extension from a comprehensive perspective.

Advertising Strategies of Incongruent Extension Product : Focused on Difference of Adult and Children (불일치 확장제품의 광고전략 : 성인과 아동의 차이를 중심으로)

  • Previous researches on advertising type of extension product have limitations in focusing on adult and simplifying advertising type of extension product as elaborational/relational ad. This study expands to children and subdivides advertising type of extension product by elaborational/relational/elaborational-relational ad. Based on these experimental setting, this study investigates the effects of interaction between age and advertising type in incongruent brand extension. The results show that adult's evaluation on incongruent extension product is the most favorable in elaborational-relational ad. On the other hand, children's evaluation on incongruent extension product is the most favorable in elaborational ad. Based on these findings, theoretical and practical implication and future direction are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of brand evidence on brand value, brand trust, brand attitude and word of mouth intention. To achieve the purpose of the study, a research model and hypothesis were established based on previous studies, and survey was conducted on 222 passengers who had used the airline. As a result of the analysis, sub-factors of airline brand evidence had a positive impact on brand value. Except for employee services, perceived prices, core services, brand names, and brand logo had a positive impact on brand value. Brand value had a significant positive effect on brand trust and brand attitude. It was also found that brand trust had a significant influence on brand attitude. This study examined the extended range by adding the brand logo as a sub-factor of brand evidence, and it is considered necessary to study including brand emotion in next study.

  • The purposes of this research are suggesting the needs of further studies about human brand by analysing the antecedents and consequents of brand attachments to celebrities in Korean Wave and marketing implications. In especially, this study uses attachment as a one of important marketing performance factor that may be a appropriate word in person to person relations. Research conclusions show the trust is more important factor to brand attachment than competence and self congruity. And there is no direct effect of competence to brand attachment. This is partially because emotional evaluation of consumers is much important than rational evaluation when they are making relationships with celebrities. Second, as similar with past studies, higher attachments lead to higher buying intention toward products that celebrities endorse, next entertainment products they record or play, extension products, and country image.
