  • Since the years of oil tanker production in the 70's, the concern of marine enviromental protection is worldwidely increased, at last it is compulsorily ruled to product the double hull tanker by International Maritime Organization(IMO). Throughout these informative years Daewoo Shipyard has developed the double hull VLCC for a future vessel. The paper presents hull design for 300K double hull VLCC which was carried out to satisfy with statutory requirement of it, focused the structural arrangement and direct calculation in cargo hold area.

안전 운항을 위한 선박 운동 모니터링 시스템 개발

  • 황천 운항 중인 선박은 파도에 의한 과도한 운동과 그로 인한 슬래밍, 프로펠러노출, 갑판침수와 같은 현상으로 구조, 화물, 인명에 위험을 초래할 수 있다. 이 때문에 황천 시 선박은 안전 운항을 위하여 속도와 코스를 신중히 결정할 필요가 있다. 선박 운동 모니터링 시스템은 해상환경이 선박에 미치는 다양한 위험 상황을 사전에 예측하고 피할 수 있도록 의사 결정을 지원하며, 현재 선박의 운동상태와 구조적 안정성을 지속적으로 모니터링 함으로써 선박, 선원, 화물의 안전을 지원할 수 있도록 개발되었다. 본 시스템은 주파수 영역에서 New strip 방법에 기초하여 운동 응답과 수직 굽힘 모멘트를 계산하며, 슬래밍, 프로펠러노출, 갑판침수를 예측한다. 또한 선박 운동과 선체구조응력을 실시간으로 모니터링하여 과도한 선체운동이나 선체구조피로 등의 위험 상황을 표시하고 선원의 작업성과 승선감의 지표인 MII (Motion induced interruption), MSI (Motion sickness incidence)를 제공한다.

A Study on the fatigue strength analysis of the welded joints in ship hull construction (선체구조의 용접이음부의 피로강도 해석법에 관한 연구)

  • In this report, a method to predict the fatigue strength in welded structure member of ship construction is studied considering the effects of statistical characteristics of mild steels and weld toe shapes on the fatigue crack initiation life. The fatigue test under pulsating bending load is carried out with the model specimens of the web frame in double bottom of ship hull. The propriety of the fatigue life curve with probability of failure in the transverse strength members of ship hull construction is confirmed by the comparison with the results of fatigue test on the model of the various transverse strength members.

  • The up-to-date fatigue strength assessment system for ship structures was developed based on the spectral analysis method and numerical calculation for a membrane type LNG carrier was carried out to verify the effectiveness of the developed system. The wave induced loads acting on the ship's hull were calculated based on strip theory. And introducing the concept of influence factor and 3-D fine mesh structural analysis, direct calculation of long-term distribution of wave induced stress components was realized. Using the derived long term distribution of stress components and Miner-Parmgren's linear damage accumulation rule, fatigue strength of structural components were investigated.

  • 선체 변형에 의해 발생할 수 있는 베어링 손상을 최소화하기 위해서는 설계 단계에서 선체 변형을 고려한 축계 배치 해석이 이루어져야 한다. 선체 변형은 유한 요소법을 이용한 구조해석에 의한 방법과 측정 데이터를 이용한 역분석 방법으로 구할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 측정에 의해 얻어진 베어링 반력과 축의 굽힘 모멘트를 이용하여 선체 변형을 구하는 방법에 대해 설명하고, 이를 4만6천톤급 석유/화학운반선에 적용하여 다른 운전 조건에 대한 베어링 옵셋 변화와 선체 변형량을 검토한다.

  • In this paper, two series of numerical simulations are performed using LS/DYNA3D: The first series of numerical simulations are collision events between a 310,000 DWT double hull VLCC (struck ship) and two 35,000 and 105,000 DWT tankers (striking ships). Collisions are assumed to occur at the middle of the VLCC with the striking ships moving at right angle to the YLCC centerline. The second ones, grounding accidents of two 40,000 DWT Conventional and Advanced Double Hull lanker bottom structures, CONV/PD328 and ADH/PD328 models. The overall objective of this study is to understand the structural failure and energy absorbing mechanisms during collision and grounding events for double hull tanker side and bottom structures, which lead to the initiation of inner shell rupture and cause the kinetic energy dissipation to bring the ship to a stop. These numerical simulations will contribute to the estimation of damage extents of collision and grounding accidents and the future improvements in lanker safety at the design stage.

  • Boat or yacht hulls are mainly built using FRP composite materials. FRP boat hull manufacturing has been restricted since 2000 under international regulations on ocean environment safety. FRP composite materials cannot be recycled and require more than 100 years to biodegrade. Therefore, alternatives to FRP have been proposed by many boat builders. Steel, aluminum, and FRP are commonly used as boat hull materials. Their design specifications are proposed as Korean register of shipping. However, the design specifications for inexpensive materials for a small boat have not yet been studied. Small shipbuilders manufacture and sell HDPE canoes or HDPE kayaks. In this study, a hull form was designed based on actual boats. The thickness of an HDPE boat hull was determined based on ISO 12215-5 structural design specifications.

  • The interest in evaluation of structural intensity arises for practical reasons, because net energy flow distribution offers information of energy transmission path, positions of sources, and sinks of vibration energy. In this paper, structural intensity analysis of local ship structures using finite element method(FEM) is carried out. The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate the relative accuracy according to mesh fineness. The structural intensity of unstiffened and stiffened plates varying their mesh fineness is analyzed and the results are compared with those obtained by the assumed mode method. As results, the proper mesh size in qualitative/quantitative structural intensity analysis of plate structures is proposed. In addition, the propagation phenomenon of vibration energy is investigated for the thickness-varying flat plate, L-type plate, and box-girder structures.

A Study on The Evaluation of Fracture Strength for Large Sized Structures Based upon Their Fracturing Characteristics (대형구조물의 파괴강도 특성 평가기술에 관한 연구)

  • One of the most important design procedures for large sized structures is the evaluation of fracture strength against fatigue and brittle fractures threatening to occur in their steel members. In this paper, the safety assessment based upon the knowledge about the fracturing characteristics of such ship structures was discussed, which can be estimated from such phenomena as fatigue crack propagation and brittle fractures, as obtained by employing fracture mechanics at the basic design stage. Model tests with a partial structure specimen of full size was carried out to authenticate a question as to whether or not the fracturing characteristics of such sophisticated structures could be estimated with precision from ordinary scale specimen tests, It was shown that the behviour of fatigue crack growth of large sized structures in this study could be predicted from the results of ordinary scale specimen test.
