An Analysis on Incident Cases of Dynamic Positioning Vessels (Dynamic Positioning 선박들의 사고사례 분석)

  • The Dynamic Positioning System consists of 7 elements which are namely Power system, Human machine interface, DP Computer, Position Reference System(PRS), Sensors, Thruster system and DP Operator. Incidents like loss of position(LOP) on DP vessel usually occur due to errors in these 7 elements. The purpose of this study is to find out safety operation method of DP vessel through qualitative and quantitative analyze of DP LOP incidents which are submitted to IMCA every year. The 612 DP LOP incidents submitted from 2001 to 2010 were analyzed to find out the main cause of the incidents and its rate among other causes. Consequently, the highest rate of incidents involving DP elements are PRS errors. DP computer, Power system, Human error and thruster system came next. The PRS has been analyzed and a flowchart was drawn through expert brainstorming. Also, the conditional probability has been analyzed through Bayesian Networks based on this flowchart. Consequentially, the main causes of drive off incidents were DGPS, microwave radar and HPR. Also, this study identified the main causes of DGPS errors through Bayesian Networks. These causes are signal blocked, electric components failure, relative mode error, signal weak or fail.

A Study on the Installation of SCR System for Generator Diesel Engine of Existing Ship (기존 선박의 디젤발전기용 SCR 시스템 설치에 관한 연구)

  • The IMO MEPC has been increasingly strengthening the emission standard for marine environment protection. In particular, nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions of all ocean-going ships built from 2016 will be required to comply with the Tier-III regulation. In this study, a vanadia based SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system developed for ship application was installed on a diesel engine for power generation of the training ship T/S SAENURI in Mokpo National Maritime University. For the present study, the exhaust pipeline of the generator diesel engine was modified to fit the urea SCR system. This study investigated the NOx reduction performance according to the two kind of injection method of urea solution (40%): Auto mode through the PLC (Programable Logic Control) and Manual mode. We were able to find the ammonia slip conditions when in manual mode method. So, the optimal urea injection quantity can be controlled at each engine load (25, 35, 50%) condition. It was achieved 80% reduction on nitrogen oxide. Furthermore, we found that the NOx reduction performance was better with the load up-down (while down to 25% from 50%) than the load down-up (while up to 50% from 25%) test.

Study on the Occupational Group and Essential Educational Elements of Future Seafarer Suitable for Industry 4.0 (4차 산업에 적합한 미래 해기사의 직업군과 필수 교육 요소에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, with the worldwide development of the fourth industry, the development of technologies for smart and eco-friendly ships is accelerating. With the emergence of autonomous vessels with complete unmanned or minimum personnel on board and eco-friendly fuel (methane, ammonia, electricity, etc.), the role of existing seafarers on board is expected to change significantly. To improve the competitiveness of seafarers in the future, predicting future seafarer occupation groups, improving the educational curriculum, and creating an educational system are necessary. In this study, eight occupational groups that seafarers may have in the future were derived through a review of earlier studies and brainstorming of maritime university students, incumbent seafarers and expert groups. A survey was conducted on the eight occupational groups using the Likert scale, and based on the results, a leading occupational group related to future seafarer was derived. The most likely occupational groups with high scores were remote control centre operators and cargo remote manager. In addition, essential educational elements to be educated first for these occupational groups were derived and presented.

Design of a Displacement and Velocity Measurement System Based on Environmental Characteristic Analysis of Laser Sensors for Automatic Mooring Devices (레이저 센서의 환경적 특성 분석에 기반한 선박 자동계류장치용 변위 및 속도 측정시스템 설계)

  • To prevent accidents near the quay caused by a ship, ports are generally designed and constructed through navigation and berthing safety assessment. However, unpredictable accidents such as ship collisions with the quay or personal accidents caused by ropes still occur sometimes during the ship berthing or mooring process. Automatic mooring systems, which are equipped with an attachment mechanism composed of robotic manipulators and vacuum pads, are designed for rapid and safe mooring of ships. This paper deals with a displacement and velocity measurement system for the automatic mooring device, which is essential for the position and speed control of the vacuum pads. To design a suitable system for an automatic mooring device, we first analyze the sensor's performance and outdoor environmental characteristics. Based on the analysis results, we describe the configuration and design methods of a displacement and velocity measurement system for application in outdoor environments. Additionally, several algorithms for detecting the sensor's state and estimating a ship's velocity are developed. The proposed method is verified through some experiments for displacement and speed measurement targeted at a moving object with constant speed.

  • 선박의 안전한 항해를 위해 해양시설물이 운용된다. 대부분의 해양시설물은 태양광 발전을 이용한 독립전원 체계를 사용하고 있다. 그러나 최근 해양시설물 내부에 통신장비와 제어시스템이 늘어나 전력소모가 증가되었다. 따라서 늘어난 수요전력을 충족하기 위하여 태양광 발전과 파력 발전, 풍력 발전을 이용한 하이브리드 전력생산시스템에 관한 연구를 하였다.
