Nano-scale Power Splitters by using Plasmonic Multimode Interference Couplers (플라즈마 다중모드 간섭 결합기를 사용한 나노 크기의 전력분배기)

  • Nano-scale power splitter based on Si plasmonic waveguides are designed by utilizing the multimode interference (MMI) coupler. Effective dielectric method and longitudinal modal transmission-line theory are used for simulating the light propagation and optimizing the structural parameters at 3-D guiding geometry. The designed $1{\times}2$ 50:50 MMI power splitter has a nano-scale size of only $800nm{\times}850nm$. In order to achieve a variable power splitting ratio, a $2{\times}2$ MMI coupler is designed and the corresponding power splitting ratio can be tuned in the range of 78.5%:15.5%~5.5%:86.6%. Also, it is shown that it has a large bandwidth of $1.5{\mu}m{\sim}1.7{\mu}m$. In this range, the transmission is over 0.8.

Humidity Sensor Using Microwave Sensor Based on Microstrip Defected Ground Structure Coated with Polyvinyl Alcohol (폴리비닐알코올로 코팅된 마이크로스트립 결함 접지 구조 기반 마이크로파 센서를 이용한 습도 센서)

  • In this paper, we have studied a development of a humidity sensor using a microwave sensor based on a microstrip defected ground structure coated with polyvinyl alcohol. A high-sensitivity microwave sensor, which is sensitive to the changes in the permittivity of the material under test, is designed by adding an interdigital capacitor-shaped defected ground structure to the ground plane of a microstrip line. Polyvinyl alcohol, a polymer material whose permittivity varies depending on humidity, is coated with a thin thickness on the defected ground structure of the proposed microwave sensor, and the changes in the resonance frequency and magnitude of the transmission coefficient for the microwave sensor according to humidity are measured. When relative humidity increases from 40% to 80% in 10% increments at a temperature of 25 degrees using a temperature/humidity chamber, the resonant frequency of the transmission coefficient decreases from 1.475 GHz to 1.449 GHz, and the magnitude is increased from -32.90 dB to -25.67 dB.

Design of a Broadband Printing RFID Tag Antenna with Low Performance Degradation Due to Nearby Dielectric Material (근접 유전체에 의한 성능 열화가 적은 광대역 프린팅 태그 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a RFID tag antenna with low performance degradation due to nearby dielectric materials. The proposed antenna is designed to be appropriate for ink printing fabrication. The antenna is designed to operate in UHF band of $860{\sim}960$ MHz. The antenna uses a T-matching network in the middle of the main body and two parasitic patches in vicinity for complex conjugate matching with a commercial tag chip. In addition, the two parasitic patches induce currents at different dielectric constants of nearby dielectric materials. This can minimize the performance degradation due to nearby dielectric materials. The measured results show the half power matching bandwidth from 844 MHT to 1,268 MHz. It exhibits the reading distance of about 3.5 m in free space when the tag antenna is used with the commercial reader antenna (transmitting power of 20 dBm and the reader antenna gain of 6 dBi). When the tag is attached on dielectric materials of wood and FR4, the resulting reading distances are 2.61 m and 2.51 m, respectively.

Fabrication of $TiO_{2}$ In-line Reflection Mirror and Its Characteristics for Fiber Optic Fabry-Perot Interferometric Sensor (광섬유 Fabry-Perot 간섭형 센서 제조를 위한 $TiO_{2}$ 반사막의 형성 및 그 특성)

  • For the fabrication of high sensitive intrinsic fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometeric sensor, the deposition conditions of $TiO_{2}$ thin film used to the internal mirrors of the sensor were investigated. The $TiO_{2}$ film deposited by RF magnetron sputter had higher refractive index ($2.36{\sim}2.48$) and better stoiciometry (O/Ti = 2) than that deposited bye-beam evaporator. In the case of forming $TiO_{2}$ internal mirror by using fusion splicing technique, the $TiO_{2}$ reflection mirror deposited by RF magnetron sputter in the condition of 120W RF power showed high. reflectance and excellent controllability of reflection power. The fabricated intrinsic fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometer with two $TiO_{2}$ internal mirrors deposited under the condition showed very stable fringe patterns. It is, therefore, expected that the interferometer will be applicable to various high precision sensors.

  • In this paper, we introduce a modified short-circuited stub bandpass filter suitable for ultra-wideband(UWB) applications utilizing low temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) technology. By modifying the conventional short-circuited stub bandpass filter structure with stubs and connecting lines of lower characteristic impedances, the number of stubs has been reduced from 5 to 2 on a high dielectric constant substrate($\varepsilon_r$ = 40). A wireless local area network (WLAN) stopband in the frequency range of 5.15 to 5.825 GHz has been inserted into the filter characteristic using three short-circuited coupled lines. The filter has been measured with an insertion loss less than 1.0 dB and return loss better than 10 dB in the pass bands. A bandwidth ratio of 109.49 % has been achieved. Measurement results agree well with simulation results. The dimensions of the filter are $4{\times}8{\times}0.57\;mm^3$.

  • 태양광전원이 연계되어 운용되고 있는 저압배전선로에 Sag, Swell 발생에 따른 태양광전원의 불안정한 운전과 태양광전원의 높은 왜형율의 Harmonic 발생에 따른 배전계통의 보호계전기(OCGR) 동작 등 전력 품질에 있어서 문제점이 발생되고 있다. 이러한 문제점은 사회적, 경제적 손실을 초래하게 되어, 전력품질(Sag, Swell, Harmonic, 모터기동)특성해석이 중요하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 태양광전원이 연계되어 정상 운용 중인 배전계통에 대한 전력품질특성시험을 수행하기 위하여, 모의 배전계통장치와 모의 태양광전원장치, Labview용 감시제어장치로 구성한 태양광전원용 전력품질시험장치를 제작하였다. 이 시험장치를 이용하여 태양광전원 연계 시 Sag, Swell, Harmonic, 모터기동에 대한 시험을 수행하여 태양광전원이 배전계통에 미치는 영향과 특성을 분석하였다.

  • 초고압 전력 케이블용 도체 접속을 위한 접속방법으로 압축형(compressing type), 용접형(welding type), 압축-용접형(CW type; compressing-welding type)의 슬리브는 물론 동과 알루미늄의 이종(nonidentical materials) 접속을 위한 슬리브를 개발 하였으며, 전기적, 기계적으로 검증된 제품 개발을 위하여, 슬리브의 구조 변경과 접속 방법의 차이뿐 아니라 접속 전후의 응력 평가를 위해 슬리브 시편의 인장시험(tensile strength) 결과에 따른 슬리브 제작 및 시험을 진행하였다. 신뢰성 있는 제품 개발과 데이터를 얻기 위하여 초고압용 지중 고압 케이블을 시험 시료로 적용하여 시험 선로(test loop)를 구성하였으며, 이를 통하여 구조와 재질에 따른 접속 방법, 이상 온도 상승 또는 국부적인 고온 부위 발생 여부 등의 전기 시험 및 열싸이클 전압 시험(heating cycle voltage test) 조건을 설정하여 시험 전후의 열신축 등 전기적, 기계적 특성을 평가하였다. 접속 슬리브의 구조 및 재질에 따른 위치별 발열 양상을 체크하였으며, X-ray 장비를 이용하여 슬리브 내부의 압축 및 충진 정도를 점검함으로써 기존 접속 슬리브 보완은 물론 개발된 접속 슬리브의 설계 기준 및 안전율을 설정 할 수 있었다.

  • The Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) 2.0 technology can establish a home network using existing in-home phone lines, which provides a channel rate of 4-32 Mbps. HomePNA 2.0 Medium Access Control(MAC) protocol adopts an IEEE 802.3 Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) access method, Quality of Service(QoS) algorithm, and Distributed Fair Priority Queuing(DFPQ) collision resolution algorithm. In this paper, we propose some mathematical models about the important elements of HomePNA 2.0 MAC protocol performance, which are Saturation Throughput, Packet Delay and Packet Jitter. Then, we present an overall performance analysis of HomePNA 2.0 MAC protocol along with simulations.

Design of A Asymmetric Branch Line Coupler Using Artificial Dielectric Substrate (가유전체 기판을 이용한 비대칭 브랜치 라인 커플러의 설계)

  • In this paper, the design of asymmetric branch line couplers using artificial dielectric substrate (ADS) is described. The effective permittivity and permeability increase in ADS because of the lots of the inserted via-holes. So the physical length and width of transmission lines realized on ADS are reduced compared to the standard lines. This enables one to design size-reduced microwave circuits. As an instance in this work, an asymmetric branch line coupler with the ratio of 3:1 is designed at 2GHz. The designed coupler has a small size of 53.4% compared to the normal circuit while the same performances are preserved. A good agreement between the simulated and measured asymmetric power dividing ratio is shown. The measured loss is only less than 0.2dB, which is a very small value.

The Design and Characteristics of the Inductive Coupler Using the Nanocrystalline Materials (나노 결정립 재료를 이용한 비접촉식 커플러의 설계 및 특성)

  • The varied heating temperatures were used for magnetic core materials, which nano sized ${\alpha}-Fe$ crystalline was created in nanocrystalline Fe-Si-B-Nb-Cu materials, with hish permeability and low power loss. The highest permeability and lowest power loss were obtained to the specimen heat-treated at $510^{\circ}C$. The signal transmission characteristics of inductive coupler, which was manufactured by using the magnetic core materials prepared in this study, at low frequency range, was influenced strongly by magnetic property of magnetic core materials as this result is corresponding to the permeability as a function of heat treatment temperature, as well, it was improved by impedance matching at high frequency range. Over $500{\mu}m$ of air gap in coupler is required to maintain the magnetic properties without magnetic saturation on the subterranean line transferred hish current of 300 A. The inductive coupler for PLC, which has an attenuation characteristics of less than 5dB, was manufactured using nano-crystalline magnetic core materials through the above mentioned research results.
