With regard to system configuration, file structure and function, this study has compared and analyzed KITLAS developed by KIT Library and CD-ROM BiblioFile, which is selected among CD-ROM Catalog Production Products, the mass storage media, produced by the fast-growing laser technology and information technology. Furthurmore, this study illuminates how to improve the reliability of bibliographic database, implementing downloading and uploading processes which make possible the conversion and online, mass transmission of CD-ROM MARC records at once.

National Union Catalog presupposes an information infrastructure which permits users to identify and locate materials of all the domestic libraries and to share materials among libraries. Recently, there have been developed national union catalog projects in many countries using Z39.50 protocol implementation. In Korea, multi-union catalogs based on the types of libraries, i.e., public, academic, and special libraries, have been constructed separately. The virtual national union catalog which is a decentralized electronically accessible catalog unified by linking the databases of several institutions using Z39.50 is preferable to a union catalog implemented by a single centralized database. In this paper, hybrid union catalog is suggested with mixtures of centralized union catalogs and Z39.50-based distributed search systems for the development of a national union catalog. It is also suggested that the roles of a national library and centers for union catalog, and relationships between two types of institution for making sound ground for implementing the virtual Korean union catalog.

This study examines the application of the FRBR model to an integrated KORMARC format using music materials. To do this, first, we analysed an integrated KORMARC format as well as a KORMARC format for audiovisual materials and then based on its analysis results, constructed an algorithm that allows the transformation from KORMARC to FRBR. Second, we used the algorithm to see whether it fits to the existing KORMARC database. Three suggestions were proposed to support the application of the FRBR model on existing integrated KORMARC library catalogues. This study results can be used not only to improve digital library interfaces but also as basic data in revising cataloging rules for the adaptation of the FRBR model.

Nautical Publications is a special purpose book, or a specially compiled database, that is issued officially by or on the authority of a Government, authorized Hydrographic Office and is designed to meet the requirements of marine navigation such as SOLAS and PSC. Nautical publications include List of Lights, Sailing directions. The SNPWG(Standardization Nautical Publications Working Group) from the IHO is working to implement in computer systems all those elements of interest for Hydrography and Navigation Concerning nautical publications' digitization process, the SNPWG has defined three types of nautical publications: Type 1 : Hard copy(NP1), Type 2 : Digital version, A slight modification of type 1(NP2), Type 3 : Digital version for ECDIS(NP3). Nautical Publications is essential with nautical charts as reference information to navigate. Development of digital nautical publications is needed for liaison with the chart production system, up-to-dateness of hydrographic information, improvement of service. But, Korean status is positioned in NP1. In our study, we surveyed the present status of nautical publications for development strategy of digital nautical publications. We build database of south coast of sailing direction, develop a manager program, convert the contents to KML( Keyhole Markup Language), develop a user program.

The purpose of this study is to find important personal characteristics that affect search process and outcome, and to formulate causal models about searching behavior, by examining the channels and the magnitude of the factors identified. The study was designed to conduct a quasi-experiment with 67 student subjects. A total of 29 elements concerned with aptitude, personality, formal education, effectiveness of online training, search process, and search outcome are measured and reduced to 9 variables. 12 hypotheses were tested statistically and path analysis was done to investigate causal relationship among variables. Finally 5 models were formulated.

Today. the value of the references comes to be high and the reference database construction is increasing. But. the descriptive regulations of the reference which it presents from scholarly journals different with each other. Also, the researchers probably does not recognize a descriptive regulations of reference. It is likely that the effective construction of reference database is very difficult. So, the purpose of this study analyzes the differences of a descriptive regulations for reference and presents the plan for standardization of a descriptive regulations.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the data of $\ulcorner$Union Catalog of Foreign Journals$\lrcorner$ Database, which has been revised and updated in 1995. The database includes 13,449 titles of foreign journals in scienc and technology which is a collection of 253 libraries in Korea. The items of analysis are nation, language, frequency, subject of each title, and also collection overlap, etc.

The bibliometric analysis was conducted by searching 87 abstract & index databases provided by the DIALOG to identify not only the characteristics of Korean journals covered by international databases, but also the characteristics of the databases covering such Korean journals. 248 Korean journals were identified, for which at least one paper published between 1990 and 1997 was retrievable from the DIALOG databases. These Korean journals were found in 52 databases. 141 journals(56.9%) were indexed in only one database. Most Korean journals covered in several DIALOG databases were science and engineering journals published in English. The difference in the degrees Korean journals are covered in a database is found to be statistically significant by the discipline a database covers, and by the database's journal selection policy.

This study attempts to compare the National Library of Korea (NLK)'s cataloging in publication(CIP) records with their permanent records in the National Library of Korea(NLK)'s online public access catalogue(OPAC) database. This study compares the description of records in the NLK CIP versus NLK OPAC in terms of similarities and differences in the bibliographic elements for each record. The study selected the NLK's CIP records from November to December 2008, allowing to publish the registered CIP titles and also the NLK to make the records avaliable in their OPAC database. The finding indicate that libraries that use NLK's CIP records in their copy cataloging activity should not rely 100 per cent on the records. Verifications and modifications need to be carried out to ensure accuracy and quality of their catalogue records.
