  • The most of all, this study is planned to search an ideal methods to develop the digital library system for our korean ancient books for their safe preservation and, at the same time, for their perusal of transcendental time and space : first. to offer the various access points like traditional oriental Four parts Classics classification, current subject classification and index keyword, etc. : second, to program a digital library system using MARC or XML, but with all bibliographic descriptive elements as possible; third, to prepare the more easy annotated bibliography and index for users' better comprehension, and last, to build original text database for practical reading to avoid the damage of original text. This type of korean ancient books digital library will be developed to the real international bibliographic control by networking enter the same kinds of internal and external organizations.

  • In this study, we analyzed the current research state of Library and Information science in top 20 journals from 1990 to 2015, in subject and method perspectives. We developed weighted subject-method network to investigate on centralities of a subject and a method as well as their relations. This network is composed of subject nodes and method nodes and gives a weight on each node by topic occurrence. As a result, for 25 years, management information system, information need analysis, bibliometrics, information policy were top topics. Modeling, literature review, scientific research impact analysis, web data analysis were top methods. A recent rise of text mining is highlighted. We also analyzed communities made from the past 25 years and the recent 5 years. Bibliometrics is extending its field by applying various network analyzing algorithms. Text mining is specialized in medical information system and user interface. This result identifies the interests of excellent studies in Library and Information Science. It also can be fundamental resource for the development of Library and Information Science.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of online catalogs' interface of elementary school libraries, and to propose how to design user-friendly interfaces. The online catalogs of elementary school libraries are categorized into 6 types. Such topics as the features of search methods, the record display formats, the terminology usage, and the special features of the 6 types are discussed. Some shortcomings are examined and how to improve them is suggested.

  • Services for the elderly is a new challenge for the libraries in aging society. This study reviewed the obstacles faced by the old readers and presbyopia, and analyzed the states of the large-print books to understand and estimate the Korean large-print books availability. Based on the bibliographic list of large-print books collected by the National Library of Korea, large-print book stock list of the Kyobo Book Center, large-print book lists supplied to the libraries by the Korean Library Association, and the data of the previous Library Survey for the Disabled, number of titles and volumes, publication year, duplication, and subject field of the large-print books available are analyzed. Based on the results, problems are identified and recommendations for bibliographic control, collection development, reading promotion, and further research area are suggested.

  • Locating function of a particular item is more of added entry than a main entry heading. This function was expanded especially in the machine readable cataloging by introducing the control number and standard bibliographic number. Assembling function of the main entry heading is on a level with that of cross reference and notes, added entries, uniform headings. Links among all variant forms of a heading in hypercatalog will be made for collocating of all publications of a given author. The link of bibliographic records in this catalog can be freed from the dependence on standardized heading form. The function of the catalog is not affected even though by abandoning the concept of main entry heading. Further efforts should be made to raise users' finding opportunities through expansion of acces points and linking devices among related records.

  • This study proposes a national cooperative model of access point control, that enables local systems to utilize national access point control record, without creating their own authority records. In order to applying this model, a client/server system is developed using SRU (Search and Retrieve URL Service) protocol. The suggested access point control system will be a cost-effective and time-saving model for the local system, and will be more flexible and extensible with concept of access point control, XML record format and SRU protocol.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present core elements of bibliographic records to effective cataloging a variety of information materials such as monographs, non-book materials, serials, and internet resources. At first, AACR2R bibliographic data elements, the minimal level cataloging, and core records proposed by Progrma for Cooperative Cataloging(PCC) in Library of congress are discussed. After that elements of Core Records, dublin Core, KORMARC, and AACR2R are compared. Upon the results, this study suggests mandatory common core elements and optional core elements for cost-effective cataloging to all kinds of documents including internet resources.

  • This study proposes a 'Bibliographic Universe Relationship Vocabulary'(burv) using the RDF/OWL Object Property under the SPO predicate logic according to the relationship type among all entities of bibliographic universe and implemented a 'relationship ontology system' to establish a new cataloging business domain called 'Relationship Description Cataloging' based on the ontology.

  • This study aims to clearly understand 'Functional Requisite of Authority Data(FRAD)' being studied by IFLA focused on aspect of change from FRAR. In addition, it has established relationship between FRAD and concerned rules by analyzing effect of FRAD on RDA and MARC21 and reviewed cataloguing rules, format and situations of major authority DB implementations concerned about domestic authority controls in reflection of IFLA's activities for authority control. Based on the analysis, it has looked into considerations for domestic authority controls standards such as access control methods, expansion of application scope, introduction of new approaches such as entity-relationship model, reinforcement of roles for national bibliographic agency. These study results would be utilized as basic data for authority control.

  • This study attempts to infer research fronts using factor graph model based on heterogeneous features. The model suggested by this study infers research fronts having documents with the potential to be cited multiple times in the future. To this end, the documents are represented by bibliographic, network, and content features. Bibliographic features contain bibliographic information such as the number of authors, the number of institutions to which the authors belong, proceedings, the number of keywords the authors provide, funds, the number of references, the number of pages, and the journal impact factor. Network features include degree centrality, betweenness, and closeness among the document network. Content features include keywords from the title and abstract using keyphrase extraction techniques. The model learns these features of a publication and infers whether the document would be an RF using sum-product algorithm and junction tree algorithm on a factor graph. We experimentally demonstrate that when predicting RFs, the FG predicted more densely connected documents than those predicted by RFs constructed using a traditional bibliometric approach. Our results also indicate that FG-predicted documents exhibit stronger degrees of centrality and betweenness among RFs.
