A Case Study of Emotion Expression Technologies for Emotional Characters (감성캐릭터의 감정표현 기술의 사례분석)

  • As interactivity is becoming one of the key success factors in today's digital communication environment, increasing emphasis is being placed on technologies for user-oriented emotion expression. We aim for development of enabling technologies for creation of emotional characters who can express personalized emotions in real-time. In this paper, we conduct a survey on domestic and international researches and case studies for emotional characters with a focus on facial expression. The survey result is believed to have its meaning as a guideline for future research direction.

  • We call WBI the educational program of this new teaching method which uses the web system. The instruction in WBI settings can make students feel more excited and interested in learning activities because it combined various sorts of multimedia materials such as moving pictures, graphics, and sound.. The diverse learning contents of this program not only supplement student's needs but also stimulate their creativities and application abilities. Based on the internet web courseware, this paper attempts to suggest the new program. This design implements the text, image and sound by using Explorer 5.0 in HTML, Javascript, Photoshop 5.0, Flash 4.0, and finally Gif Construction.

Analyzing vocational outcomes of people with hearing impairments : A data mining approach (청각장애인의 취업결정요인 분석 연구 -데이터마이닝 기법(Exhaustive CHAID)의 적용)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine demographic, human capital and service factors affecting employment outcomes of people with hearing impairments. The total of 422 individuals (age from 20 years to 65 years) with hearing impairments were collected from the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled from Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled. The dependent variable is employment outcomes. The predictor variables include a set of personal history, human capital and rehabilitation service variables. The chi-squared automatic interaction detector (CHAID) analysis revealed that the status of the national basic livelihood security played a determining role in predicting the employment of people with hearing impairments. Also, it was found that the three factors of the status on the national basic livelihood security, needed help about activities of dailey living, licenses & employment service factors created bigger synergy effect when they inter-complemented one another.

  • WiBro (Wireless Broadband) service, developed in Korea, can provide the host mobility while its users hang around within the subnet. Next-generation Internet protocols, IPv6 and Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), provide a plenty of addresses to the nodes and enable the handover between different subnets. However, MIPv6 is not enough to support a real time service such as VoIP (Voice over IP) due to the long latency, and it is necessary to develop an enhanced handover mechanism which is optimized to the WiBro networks. In this paper, we suggest an improved fast handover mechanism while the mobile node moves around WiBro networks. The proposal is based on Fast Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) which is the representative protocol for fast handover, and reduces the handover latency by the close interaction between the link layer (WiBro MAC) and IP layer (FMIPv6). Finally, we analyze the performance of proposed mechanism through the mathematical analysis.

Object-oriented Simulation Modeling for Service Supply Chain (서비스 공급사슬을 위한 객체지향 시뮬레이션 모델링)

  • Recently it is important to understand service supply chain because the economy moves from manufacturing to services. However, most of existing supply chain research focuses exclusively on the manufacturing sector. To overcome this situation, it needs to investigate and analyze service supply chain. Simulation is one of the most frequently used techniques for analysis and design of complex system. Service supply chain is complex and large systems that require an accurate designing phase. Especially, it is important to examine closely the dynamically interactive behavior of the different service supply chain components in order to predict the performance of the servcie supply chain. In this paper, we develop a conceptual model of service supply chain. Then, we present a new procedure to develop simulation model for the developed conceptual model of service supply chain, based on the UML analysis and design tools and on the ARENA simulation language. The two main characteristics of the proposed procedure are the definition of a systematic procedure to design service supply chain and of a set of rules for the conceptual model translation in an ARENA simulation language. The goal is to improve the knowledge on service supply chain management and support the simulation model development efficiency on service supply chain.

A Study on a Quantified Structure Simulation Technique for Product Design Based on Augmented Reality (제품 디자인을 위한 증강현실 기반 정량구조 시뮬레이션 기법에 대한 연구)

  • Most of product designers use 3D CAD system as a inevitable design tool nowadays and many new products are developed through a concurrent engineering process. However, it is very difficult for novice designers to get the sense of reality from modeling objects shown in the computer screens. Such a intangibility problem comes from the lack of haptic interactions and contextual information about the real space because designers tend to do 3D modeling works only in a virtual space of 3D CAD system. To address this problem, this research investigate the possibility of a interactive quantified structure simulation for product design using AR(augmented reality) which can register a 3D CAD modeling object on the real space. We built a quantified structure simulation system based on AR and conducted a series of experiments to measure how accurately human perceive and adjust the size of virtual objects under varied experimental conditions in the AR environment. The experiment participants adjusted a virtual cube to a reference real cube within 1.3% relative error(5.3% relative StDev). The results gave the strong evidence that the participants can perceive the size of a virtual object very accurately. Furthermore, we found that it is easier to perceive the size of a virtual object in the condition of presenting plenty of real reference objects than few reference objects, and using LCD panel than HMD. We tried to apply the simulation system to identify preference characteristics for the appearance design of a home-service robot as a case study which explores the potential application of the system. There were significant variances in participants' preferred characteristics about robot appearance and that was supposed to come from the lack of typicality of robot image. Then, several characteristic groups were segmented by duster analysis. On the other hand, it was interesting finding that participants have significantly different preference characteristics between robot with arm and armless robot and there was a very strong correlation between the height of robot and arm length as a human body.

A Study on Collaborative Governance: Focusing on the Cultural Heritage Guardians (문화재지킴이 정책의 협력적 거버넌스 운영 체계 연구)

  • Governance is valued as a new concept and principle of social operation and public policy management, and its influence is gradually expanding. Among the various governance theories being put into practice and in case analysis studies, collaborative governance embracing various governance concepts has been found to increase interdependence and responsibility beyond participation and compromise, and create new public values by integrating and utilizing optimal social coordination forms. In the field of cultural assets, governance-related research is also being conducted for the efficiency, sustainability, and scalability of public policy enforcement. This study explored the government's role (promotion, arbitration, and condition creation) in collaborative governance, focusing on the "Cultural Heritage Guardians" to understand how collaborative governance operates in the cultural heritage sector. Regarding governance policies in the cultural asset sector, the cultural asset guardians highlighted the status, role, and characteristics of policies by examining their introduction, development, and implementation. The results of the analysis revealed that private-led, horizontal public-private cooperation, collaborative governance, policy introduction, solidarity, professionalism, resource/knowledge imbalance, cooperation precedence, etc., facilitate increased participation. The government has accordingly proposed measures to establish comprehensive legal stability centered on cooperation; strategic reorganization of dedicated organizations; strengthened, supportive intermediate organizations; and individual and multi-party consultative bodies.

A Framework of Intelligent Middleware for DNA Sequence Analysis in Cloud Computing Environment (DNA 서열 분석을 위한 클라우드 컴퓨팅 기반 지능형 미들웨어 설계)

  • The development of NGS technologies, such as scientific workflows, has reduced the time required for decoding DNA sequences. Although the automated technologies change the genome sequence analysis environment, limited computing resources still pose problems for the analysis. Most scientific workflow systems are pre-built platforms and are highly complex because a lot of the functions are implemented into one system platform. It is also difficult to apply components of pre-built systems to a new system in the cloud environment. Cloud computing technologies can be applied to the systems to reduce analysis time and enable simultaneous analysis of massive DNA sequence data. Web service techniques are also introduced for improving the interoperability between DNA sequence analysis systems. The workflow-based middleware, which supports Web services, DBMS, and cloud computing, is proposed in this paper for expecting to reduceanalysis time and aiding lightweight virtual instances. It uses DBMS for managing the pipeline status and supporting the creation of lightweight virtual instances in the cloud environment. Also, the RESTful Web services with simple URI and XML contents are applied for improving the interoperability. The performance test of the system needs to be conducted by comparing results other developed DNA analysis services at the stabilization stage.

Research Trends in the Service Quality of Korean Restaurants - Centering on the Researches in Academic Journals from 2000 to 2008 - (국내 한식당의 서비스 품질과 관련된 연구 논문의 경향 분석 - 2000~2008년 학술지에 수록된 연구를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to study academic tendency in the researches on the service quality of Korean restaurants by analyzing the studies related to the service quality of Korean restaurants. As a result of this study, the studies related to the service quality of Korean restaurants, included in 7 academic journals selected, are totally 26 articles. Among them, there are 14 researches targeting medium-large size Korean restaurants with more than 100 seats. In the methodological aspect, the scales, which were used most frequently in measuring the service quality of Korean restaurants, were indicated to be SERVQUAL in Parasuraman et al.(1988), DINESERV in Stevens et al.(1995) and Brady & Cronin(2001)'s scale. Also, as a result of examining the tendency of researches related to the service quality in Korean restaurants in the contextual aspect, the interaction quality between employees and customers out of customers' perceived service quality was surveyed to have greater influence upon customers' behavioral reaction than the physical quality or technical quality. Consequently, in order to conduct an institutional research through examining the service quality in Korean restaurants, understanding the customers' perceived service quality needs to be implemented preferentially with a systematically verified scale. Moreover, such researches on the service quality of Korean restaurants appear to focus on specific subjects. Thus, in order to escape from this tendency, it is necessary to explore creative research subjects and design diversely and scientifically analytical methods.

Design and Implementation of Nools-based Rule Engine for Smart IoE Platform (지능형 IoE 플랫폼을 위한 Nools 기반 룰 엔진의 설계 및 구현)

  • In order to make the IoT ecosystem more usable and friendly to general users, the interaction between the users and platforms/devices and its UX must be improved. In this study, a web-based rule engine system to help users intuitively interact with the various devices and services in IoE (Internet of Everything) platform is proposed. The proposed system consists of web interfaces and UI components for creating and managing rule-based scenarios using sensors, actuators, and external services in an intuitive way. Also, a rule management module for automatically translating the rules from the web interface into Nools rule engine compatible ones is proposed. Finally, we show the usability and feasibility of the proposed system by demonstration of rule-based use cases of IoT devices and external services.
