Objectives: This study was conducted to develop a participatory learning process and apply it to community empowerment for health promotion. Methods: The participatory learning sessions were composed of three stages according to the modified Freirean model of empowerment education. Stage 1 of generating themes (listening stage) was replaced with a community health forum. Stage 2 of problem-posing was executed via a two-session small group brainstorming discussion for selecting priority community health problems and strategies to solve them. Stage 3 of act-reflect-act, the implementation of the chosen strategies, is ongoing. We tested the feasibility of the participatory learning processes in the pilot programs for health education. Then, 14 Myeon (or Dong) Health Committee members used them in Health Plus Happiness Plus projects for community empowerment to achieve health equity in Gyeongsangnam-Do, Korea. Results: In the pilot program for feasibility, more than 80% of the 95 participants gave positive responses to evaluation questionnaires after three or four participatory learning sessions. Health Committee members successfully selected various strategies relevant to their communities with facilitation, but without any teaching from outside professionals. Conclusions: We successfully applied the participatory learning process to health promotion. However, more studies are warranted to evaluate its long-term applicability.

This study is a descriptive study to investigate the relationship between communication competency, interpersonal relationship ability and self-management competency of nursing college students in graduation year. Data collection was conducted from November 1, 2016, to December 9, 2016, in 135 students of 4th grade nursing students in M and K areas. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 21.0 program. The result of this study showed that average degree of communication competency was $3.55{\pm}.34$(5 point-scale), interpersonal relationship ability was $3.79{\pm}.50$(5 point-scale), self-management competency was $3.67{\pm}.47$(5 point-scale). The communication competency of nursing college students in graduation year showed a significant positive correlation with interpersonal relationship ability(r=.65, p<.001) and self-management competency(r=.70, p<.001). In addition, interpersonal relationship ability also showed a significant positive correlation(r=.69, p<.001) with self-management competency. Therefore, this study proposes an intervention program to help nursing graduates maintain efficient interpersonal relationships through smooth communication with patients, guardians and staff at the job site after graduation by building their own management competency in their academic life.
The study aims to evaluate the outcomes of the Centers for Independent Living(CILs) demonstration program and to recommend future directions for CILs in 2006. The framework for the evaluation is a logic model, which facilitates outcome-based performance measurement. The measures associated with the logic model include input, activity, output, and outcomes. The data were collected by interviewing the executive directors of 10 CILs and conducting telephone survey with 231 consumers with disabilities. The study found that 69% consumers acquired new knowledge and skills for independent living. The study also revealed that 87% consumers experienced the positive changes in their lives and 83% consumers were satisfied with the services of the Centers. After using the services, consumers reported significant increases in self-confidence, and in the number and the level of involvement in the activities. In addition, the study found that the employment status of the consumers was improved, and the number of persons who were living in institutions was decreased. The study supports the advancement of policy to institutionalize Centers for Independent Living, and points to the importance of developing the capacity of the Association of Centers for Independent Living to ensure high quality services. In addition, it is suggested that the development of a manual for these services is necessary, and that services should be provided across disabilities and throughout the country, especially in rural areas.

Recently many higher education institutes in Korea try to improve the education excellence, because there are some criticisms on the readiness of graduates for the needs of companies. We study the relationship between the satisfaction of college life and their academic achievements for freshmen during last 5 years at a certain university (so-called H University). In this paper, we study some requirements for freshmen to meet their needs to upgrade their capability throughout both curricular and extra-curricula activity and also study to improve their satisfaction of college life. This study investigates the effects of different types of digital informatization (i.e. access, skill, utilization) on life satisfaction. The mediation effects of the outcome of digital device use between digital informatization and life satisfaction are also tested. The '2020 Survey on the Digital Divide' conducted by the National Information Society Agency was referenced for empirical analysis. The findings show that in general, digital informatization contributes to improving life satisfaction. In addition, the outcome of digital device use mediates the positive relationship between digital informatization and life satisfaction. However, the magnitudes of the effects of digital informatization and mediation effects differed according to the types of digital informatization. This study supports the necessity and justification for a digital informatization policy and provides valuable information that helps establish and promote digital informatization policies. In addition, this study helps to understand the determinants of the third-level digital divide information by examining the relationship between digital informatization and the outcome of digital device use.

The purpose of this research is to develop a Home Economics education curriculum that can promote citizenship through critical literacy. To this end, the 'housing' area in the 2015 revised curriculum of home economics and textbooks were analyzed from a critical literacy perspective. Using Laster(1986)'s critical science curriculum development course and "A Teacher's guideFamily, Food and Society"(Staaland & Storm, 1996), a 'Citizenship raising curriculum of home economics education in the housing area.' was developed. The results of this research are as follows. First, when the the curriculum was examined, the teaching objectives of the overall subject, or the achievement criteria, learning elements, and evluative methods of the housing area consisted of practical problem solving curriculum that can include critical literacy content. In addition, as a result of analyzing the text of the three textbooks' housing areas, it was found that most of them were described as adapting to and coping with the current culture, and few problems or social issues were mentioned that could lead to critical literacy. Second, the housing area curriculum for critical literacy learning was developed, with a total of 13 plan of 7 modules including continuous interests, valued ends, learning contents, and 26 learning materials including reading materials, and video materials. Based on the findings, the next curriculum and textbook should address social issues related to critical literacy and various classes of housing, and teachers' communities and training should be operated to support teachers who can be examplary for practical reasoning and critical thinking.

Results: A significant positive correlation was found in self-awareness (r=.301). The highest positive correlations were with social adjustment in both private (r=.340) and public self-awareness (r=.331) (p<0.01). Recognition of others (r=-.051) showed a negative correlation with college life adjustment, though it was not statistically significant. As factors for adapting to college life, private self-awareness (β=.232) and public self-awareness (β=.254) had a positive (+) effect, and internal self-awareness (β=-.205) was found to have a negative (-) effect (p<0.01) Conclusion: The self-awareness and recognition of others among dental hygiene students influence their smooth adjustment to college life.
