Categorization of Citiesin Gyeonggi-do Using Ecosystem Service Bundles (생태계서비스 번들을 이용한 경기도 도시의 유형화)

  • The concept of ecosystem services is important for the effective management of regional ecological resources. Multiple ecosystem services provided by regional ecosystems are represented as ecosystem service bundles, which define the co-occurrent ecosystem services in a specific region. Bundles provide useful information to identify regional characteristics of ecosystem services and categorize sub-regions with similar patterns of ecosystem service provision. We assessed eleven ecosystem services using modeling approaches and statistical data and produced bundles of cities in Gyeonggi-do.We also conducted principal component analysis and cluster analysis to categorize these cities according to the characteristics of ecosystem services. The results indicated that the cities in Gyeonggi-do were categorized into three groups depending on the types of provision,regulation, and cultural services, and were designated as urbanized, urban-forest, agriculture, or forest cities. These groups were influenced by land use patterns reflecting regional social-environmental features. The results provide useful information for identifying regional ecosystem services and facilitate decision-making in regional ecosystem service management.

  • Ecosystem service accounting must measure ecosystem supply functions, demand, and the actual service flows that occur between them. In order to measure flows, supply and demand relationships must be defined, and a methodology that can objectify complex connections is needed. Although various studies on ecosystem services have been conducted in Korea, but researches on accounting for ecosystem services are not enough. The purpose of this study is to evaluate flood control ecosystem services by applying the EU methodology studied in the Experimental Ecosystem Account (EEA) of System of Environmental Economy Account (SEEA) and explore ways to introduce ecosystem account. To conduct the study, the ecosystem's runoff retention potential, social and economic demand for flood control, and actual service benefit flows formed from the relationships between them were modeled and quantified on a spatial basis. As a result of calculating the actual flow of flood control ecosystem services, the total domestic service amount was calculated to be 165,595 (ha), and it was confirmed that much of it was concentrated in agricultural land. In order to account for domestic flood control services in the future, key spatial data such as land cover maps must be continuously established and managed, and researches on input data and methodologies applicable to various spatial scopes such as national, regional, and unit watersheds are expected to be necessary.

Development and Feasibility of Indicators for Ecosystem Service Evaluation of Urban Park (도시공원의 생태계서비스 평가지표 개발 및 측정가능성 검토)

  • A human in urban areas has depended on ecosystem for well-being, so it is important to evaluate urban ecosystem services which contribute significantly to human well-being. In this study we classified ecosystem functions and set indicators used for evaluating ecosystem services of urban park by Delphi method. As a result, it derived 12 items and 14 indicators of ecosystem services to evaluate them such as vegetable garden, canopy cover, biodiversity, and educational programs. Based on the derived evaluation indicators, the feasibility of the indicators was examined by applying to two urban parks, Maetan park and Seoho-Ggotme park, in Suwon City. We also suggested strategies to improve each ecosystem services based on the results of evaluation. It is significant to recognize unknown services in urban parks. The results can be used for improving urban ecosystem services consistently in response to current rapid urbanization. In the future, the city should make a master plan on ecosystem service on urban area, beyond urban park, considering both of quality and quantity.

Valuation of Ecosystem Water Quality Regulation Service Using TMDL (수질오염총량을 이용한 생태계 수질조절 서비스 가치 평가)

  • In this study, we developed a method to assess quantitatively the amount and the economic value of water quality regulating service of ecosystem services. Numbers of species and aquatic organisms such as fish increased because of the improved water, but it was due to complex factors such as water quality regulation services of ecosystems, installation of environmental facilities for water quality treatment, and water quality regulation. Therefore we sought ways to quantitatively estimate the value of ecosystem regulation services. In this study, we propose a method to estimate the quantitative value of water quality regulation service of ecosystem by utilizing the total amount of water pollution. In addition, the economic value evaluation method was proposed by multiplying the estimated the quantitative value of water quality regulation service of ecosystem by the unit cost per unit capacity. Finally, the ecosystem water quality regulation service was estimated by using the evaluation method for BOD and T-P in Nakdong river watershed.

  • This review paper examines various terms used for the definitions and classifications of ecosystem services, often times mixed and confused, in the literature and re-establishes the concepts of important terms, including ecosystem functions, services and benefits, to enhance communication among the stake-holders in the process of decision making. The definitions and scopes of ecosystem services are differentiated depending on the policy purposes such as environmental accounting, environmental valuation and natural resource management. The importance of identification and enumeration of final outputs associated with a particular policy is addressed. In addition, the usefulness of an alternative pathway-analysis beginning from benefits, via services and function, to process/structure of ecosystem is emphasized.

  • This study was conducted to identify various types of activities of payment contract for ecosystem services. As supporting services, 12 types of activities were derived: fallow, eco-friendly crop cultivation, shelter creation management, etc. As regulating services, 5 types of activities were derived: stream environment purification, creation and management of riparian vegetation, creation and management of forests for responding to climate change, etc. As cultural services, five types of activities were derived: creation and management of landscape forests, creation and management of ecological trails, managing ecosystem conservation, etc.

  • 다양한 센서와 네트워크의 발달로 인하여 여러 분야의 사물인터넷 서비스들이 보급되기 시작하였다. 국내 사물인터넷 서비스의 인프라 수준은 높지만 사물인터넷의 생태계의 부족으로 인하여 사물인터넷 서비스의 경쟁력이 약하다. 이는 사물인터넷 발전에 부정적이 영향을 가져올 수 있으므로 사물인터넷의 생태계의 구성에 관한 논의가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 사물인터넷 생태계를 비즈니스 관점과 시장 중심의 관점으로 분석하고, 세부적으로 생태계를 구성하는 4가지 요소에 대해 분석한다. 또한 국내 사물인터넷의 생태계의 부족한 점에 관하여 논의를 한다. 본 논문은 사물인터넷 생태계의 분석을 통하여 국내 사물인터넷의 생태계의 도움을 주는 역할을 할 것이다.

IPTV 동향을 중심으로 본 국내 디지털 생태계에 대한 연구

  • 디지털 생태계에 대한 관심이 작년 다보스 세계경제 포럼(WEF)과 최근의 이론적 문헌을 통해 국내외에서 주목을 받고 있다. 국내에 관련 전담 연구조직이 생기고 일정한 성과물을 시현하기 시작하고 있다. 이와 관련, 이 연구는 최근 이슈가 되고 있는 디지털 생태계에 대한 이론적 연구를 토대로 국내 IPTV 영역에서의 동향과 응용가능성에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 우선, 기존의 통방융합의 한 형태인 IPTV에서의 주주 중심(Share-holderism)에서 이해관계자 중심관점(Stake-holderism)으로의 이론적 연구를 바탕으로 한다. 또한 디지털 생태계의 생태중심 관점(Eco-holderism)으로의 상호 공존과 공진화(Co-evolution)를 위한 연구로 외연 확장을 모색 하고자 한다. 이 연구를 통해 아직 법적 문제, 서비스 내용과 사업 영역에 있어서 방송계와 통신계의 이해가 상충되고 있는 IPTV의 원활한 서비스를 위한 토대를 마련 하고자 한다. 국내외 문헌연구를 바탕으로 국내에서 IPTV의 선행 형태로 서비스중인 하나TV와 메가TV 등의 사례 분석을 통해 디지털 생태계 연구에서 의미있는 시사점을 추가하고자 한다.

Evaluation of the Spatial Distribution of Water Yield Service based on Precipitation and Population (강수량 및 인구인자를 반영한 수원함양서비스의 공간분포 평가)

  • The study of ecosystem service assessment has been actively researched and developed from Millennium Ecosystem Assessment(MA) and The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity(TEEB). However, current assessments are limited to monetary assessments of ecosystem function and do not account for the effects of environmental factors and socioeconomic status. This study proposes methods to evaluate ecosystem service based on environmental and socioeconomic factors. The study assesses water yield function through the water yield model in InVEST Tool, and evaluates the overall ecosystem service of water yield as reflected by the amount of precipitation and population of the area. Results show that a difference exists between spatial distributions of the ecosystem function of water yield derived from natural conditions such as land cover and soil, and the spatial distribution of the ecosystem service that accounts for climate and socioeconomic factors. The value of ecosystem service increases for an area of higher population and lower precipitation with similar water yield. Thus, the ecosystem service of water yield should be evaluated not only by the water yield function, but also by climate and socioeconomic factors. The evaluation process described for this study should also be applicable to the evaluation of ecological services in other sectors.
