  • This paper has studied the concept and technical factors of e-Learning system to which we intend to apply domestic biodiversity information. This article describes how we analyzed and designed the e-learning system to serve biodiversity information as e-Learning contents. It would be useful for the public and students if this information are organized and provided as e-learning contents especially in our country which has well-established network infrastructure considering the limited land space. It is expected that the establishment of e-Learning system based on this proposed design will help students and public to access and team biodiversity on cyber space.

  • The marine life culture contents added with fun and learning factors are created in a 3D space, and the development of augmented reality contents concerning marine life resources in islands and the utilization method of experience-based learning are proposed. As a WYSIWYG-based authoring tool, an augmented reality authoring tool was made to easily use a authoring tool through a node structure and drag & drop. Marine life contents add the animation effect through a marker and event factors such as the change of modeling data, and also, they support real experience-based learning with the narration of marine life. Based on around 50 species of marine animals augmented reality contents, a marine animal AR book can be utilized as a textbook for elementary school classes, and as a 3D image education utilizing augmented reality, it enhances a learning effect by allowing realistic observation, various ways of thinking, and the maximum flow.

  • Internet, a world wide network of computers, is considered as a sea of information because it allows people to share information beyond the barriors of time and space. However, in spite of the unmeasurable potential applications of the internet, its use in the field of biology education has been extremely limited mainly due to the scarcity of good biology-related sites. In order to provide useful guidelines for constructing user-friendly study sites, which can help high school students with different intellectual levels to study biology, comparative studies were performed on selected educational sites. Initially, hundreds of related sites were examined, and, subsequently, four distinct sites were selected not only because they are well organized, but also because each is unique in its contents. Also, a survey was carried out against the users of each site. The survey results indicated that the high school students regard the web-based biology study tools as effective teaching methods although there might be some bias in criteria for selecting target sites. In addition to the detailed biology topics and the related biology informations, multimedia data including pictures, animations and movies are found to be one of the important ingredients for desirable biology study sites. Thus, the inclusion of multimedia components should also be considered when developing a systematic biology study site. Overall, the role of the cyber space is expected to become more and more important. Since the development of the user-satisfied and self-guided sites require interdisciplinary collaborational efforts which should be made to promote extensive communication among teachers, education professionals, and computer engineers. Furthermore, the introduction of good biology study sites to the students by their teachers is also important factor for the successful web-based education.

  • This study was to inquire the effectiveness of concept mapping on the learning of biology concept. In this study the achivement acquired by the students in the classes of individual concept mapping and cooperative concept mapping were compared with those of traditional lecture on "photosynthesis and plant respiration". The concept mapping teaching methods, by individuals and groups. were more effective than traditional one. The results of analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) showed that these difference were statistically significant; individual concept mapping was more effective than traditional class result(p<.008). Also the cooperative concept mapping was effective than traditional class result(p<.0001). And the cooperative concept mapping was more effective than the individual one(p<.04). So that cooperative concept mapping is the most effective method in biology class.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of biology contents of cyber home learning systems which provided by 16 metropolitan and provincial offices of education. The contents were evaluated by the 9 categories: needs assessment, instruction design, learning contents, teaching & learning strategy, interaction, supporting system, evaluation, ethicality and copy right. The result showed that the contents have advantage in detailed learning goal, useful learning environment, learning activities by level, and various learning parts material, but lack in evaluation method tool for personal learning by level and the latest learning material. Based on this results, it is expected that the barrier of the efficient learning contents should be searched for the complement, as well as the development high-quality educational contents and the management of cyber home learning system.
