The purpose of this study is to call on better understanding and having interest in Shepping(1880~1934)'s life and nursing missionary work which are represented in 'Not success, but service' and especially to review the course of her sacrificial life as a nursing missionary during Japanese colonial period. The structure of the contents is as follows: First, the outline of Shepping's missionary life is described. Second, understanding of her nursing missionary work and nursing missionary work is reviewed in detail. Third, future directions of nursing education that puts its core value on human life-respect and is based on principles of loving and serving are provided.

This study was performed to investigate the quality characteristics and antioxidant activity of black soybean Sunsik product with functional food ingredients and functional labeling system. We prepared black soybean Sunsik (BS) containing black beans, cereals, and vegetables. Black soybean Sunsik with nondigestible maltodextrin and calcium lactate (BSN) was prepared by adding non-digestible maltodextrin and calcium lactate to the base recipe to apply a functional labeling system. The particle size in BS was 118.00 ㎛, whereas BSN was 127.00 ㎛. The respective L, a, and b color values of BS were 73.25, 2.36, and 14.21. The respective L, a, and b values of BSN were 73.21, 2.36, and 14.31. The respective water retention capacities of BS and BSN were 241.67% and 216.33%. No significant difference was observed between BS and BSN in the three physicochemical properties described above. However, the pH of BSN was 5.45, which was significantly lower than that of BS. The total respective phenolic contents of BS and BSN were 1.75 mg GAE/g and 1.61 mg GAE/g, and total respective flavonoid contents of BS and BSN were 6.36 mg RE/g and 5.95 mg RE/g. The antioxidant capacities of BS and BSN were compared via assays of DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, FRAP, and reducing power. The antioxidant activities of BS and BSN increased in a dose-dependant manner. No significant difference between BS and BSN was observed in any measure of antioxidant capacity. These results suggested that the addition of functional food ingredients (non-digestible maltodextrin and calcium lactate) did not affect the quality characteristics and antioxidant activity of black soybean Sunsik.

The paper was inspired by Jung's words in the Red Book "just as Christ tormented the flesh through the spirit, the God of this time will torment the spirit through the flesh." I propose that the new form of torment in this era could be eroticism as a way of the individuation process because it seems to be one of a very few ways left to modern men to grasp the sense of permanence, the essence of the divine, without religion because of its peculiar nature of transcendence. I suppose that it is not only a man who is tortured but also god is in torment since the divine needs a man as a womb for his incarnation. Therefore I suggest that man and god are fated to seduce each other to be redeemed by each other. I imagine that Eros with numinous sexuality seduces a man who has potentials for the god's incarnation and who would be willing to give in to the god's demand. This god needs a man who desires his essence of perpetuity, the eternal water of life, in ecstasy. Thus the purpose of the divine's seduction is to make a man awake from unconsciousness to pursue god himself, namely the individuation process. I call such divine seduction "eroticism of god" There seem to be a certain type of people who are destined to live eroticism as a way of individuation process. Through investigations, a melancholic tendency appears to be suitable for this type of individuation. Melancholia is deeply related to the poignant awareness of impermanence as the existential condition, which is a precondition for seeking permanence through eroticism. Melancholia essentially causes deep longing for eternity that bears fulfillment, which exists in eroticism, so melancholic agony seems inevitable for eroticism as the path for individuation in that, without knowing about deficiency, we never seek what is lacking in us. It can also be viewed that while a lover is driven to seduce lost love, what actually waits to become seduced for redemption is the god of love itself behind the human beloved. Man and god are fated to seduce each other for redemption. I suppose that the initiation to Eros implies how to seduce Eros. In a woman's psyche, psychological virginity is one of the essential qualities that her ego needs to attain. To the male it is vital to live his sensuality thoroughly and to experience his own and his lover's emotions to their limit. It cannot be an easy task because it demands us to give up our egotism entirely. Through eroticism, unconsciousness seduces us to make us live life as a whole. The god of love brings powerful sexuality as a means of "spiritual crisis" to redeem our lukewarm soul. Only a few can withstand the experience since it requires a strong will to bear the brunt of the sword despite the keen awareness that it may leave us bleeding in pain.

Human microbiota is a community of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, that inhabit various locations of the body, such as the gut, oral, and skin. Along with the development of metabolomic analysis and next-generation sequencing techniques for 16S ribosomal RNA, it has become possible to analyze the population for subtypes of microbiota, and with these techniques, it has been demonstrated that bacterial microbiota are involved in the metabolic and immunological processes of the hosts. While specific bacteria of microbiota, called commensal bacteria, positively affect hosts by producing essential nutrients and protecting hosts against other pathogenic microorganisms, dysbiosis, an abnormal microbiota composition, disrupts homeostasis and thereby has a detrimental effect on the development and progression of various types of diseases. Recently, several studies have reported that oral and gut bacteria of microbiota are involved in the carcinogenesis of gastrointestinal tumors and the therapeutic effects of anticancer therapy, such as radiation, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Studying the complex relationships (bacterial microbiota-cancer-immunity) and microbiota-related carcinogenic mechanisms can provide important clues for understanding cancer and developing new cancer treatments. This review provides a summary of current studies focused on how bacterial microbiota affect gastrointestinal cancer and anticancer therapy and discusses compelling possibilities for using microbiota as a combinatorial therapy to improve the therapeutic effects of existing anticancer treatments.

These days sex has become a tool of interest, a constant stream of sex crimes occurs and it brings the age of population cliffs to an age of low birth rates. As an alternative to overcome these problems, we should establish the praying for a child, which has been our ancestors' way of life, as a sacred culture that holds the mystery of life-birth with a new awareness. Therefore, the purpose of this study is not to re-enact the Zhaungam area as a fun and interesting place, but as a sacred place to pray for the nobility, longevity and wealth of life. Based on the spirit of natural love, meeting, healing, and love based on the spirit of traditional culture, Doridori was chosen as the main theme of the project based on the spirit of natural love and life-respect, and the name "Doridori Secret Garden" was given out of 10 medals in Dandong for tourism storytelling. Cultural content becomes a marketing tool for the region and acts as a force for tourists to visit the area. In this context, it was confirmed that the creation of "Doridori Secret Garden" could lead to a high value-added industry that attracts tourists by enhancing the brand value of Andong and showing sufficient significance to become a new attraction. This study is intended to re-create the Zhaungam area as a sacred place to pray for the nobility of life and longevity and wealth of life, noting that people still pray for the birth of their children in Zhaungam and Zhagungam.

This study aimed to predict the shelf life of black soybean Sunsik to develop a functional labeling system for the product. The Arrhenius equation was used to calculate the shelf life by examining alterations in the dietary fiber and calcium levels of black soybean Sunsik stored at 25, 35, and 50℃ for 0, 6, and 12 months. Dietary fiber and calcium analyses were performed according to the experimental methods specified in the Food Code of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Both black soybean Sunsik (BS) and black soybean Sunsik containing nondigestible maltodextrin and calcium lactate (BSN) exhibited an upward trend in dietary fiber content after 12 months of storage, compared to their initial levels. During storage, the phytate in Sunsik degraded, releasing cations that facilitated the formation of new cross-links between pectic acid and middle lamella, which ultimately increased dietary fiber content. Conversely, the calcium contents of both BS and BSN decreased with prolonged storage. Based on these findings, the expected shelf life of BS and BSN was calculated as 15.65 and 28.34 months, respectively.

This is a study on the flower pattern artwork of the west wall of the Jagyeongjeon in Gyeongbokgung to find out the type of plants and flowers represented and their symbolism. The research was conducted from July 2010 to March 2011 and the artwork classified on the basis of its horticultural traits. A number was assigned to each pattern for analysis: No. 1 is Prunus mume, No. 2 is Prunus persica, No. 3 is Paeonia suffruticosa, No. 4 is Punica granatum, No. 5 and 6 is Dendranthema grandiflora, No. 7 is Rhododendron mucronu and No. 8 is Phyllostachys bambusoides. These 8 flower patterns symbolize longevity and fecundity and their presense around the Jagyeongjeon helped to bestow good fortune on the royal family so that they might live long lives and bear many children. 4 artworks symbolize longevity, 2 artworks symbolize integrity and 1 artwork symbolizes wealth and happiness. There is also symbolism of the need to have constancy in a royal household even during secular change. Out of the 8 artworks, the imagery of a bird and a moon is represented only once, but the image of a butterfly is represented five times in the surrounding elements. The bird and butterfly symbolise freedom and happiness from free love. Women in the palace are like a butterfly wanted to be like love as a freedom and have a free and open relationship like a butterfly. But a harmonious relationship between the royal family wanted to have a symbolic meaning that could be seen of the symbolistic. Based on the "Yangwhasorok"only plants with the highest values, from the 1st and 2nd grades, were used in the artwork of the west wall of the Jagyeongjeon.

The present study examined the cytotoxic effects of a Smilax china L. extract (SCLE) in human cancer (A-549, MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, U87-MG, AGS, MKN-74, and SNU-601) and normal MRC-5 fibroblasts, as well as in mesenchymal stem cells derived from dental tissue (DSC). The 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) values for SCLE were significantly (p<0.05) lower in the cancer cell lines (A-549, MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, U87-MG, AGS, MKN-74 and SNU-601) than in the MRC-5 and DSC cells. Cell growth was significantly (p<0.05) more inhibited in the cancer cell lines treated with 200 ㎍/ml SCLE than in the normal MRC-5 and DSC, and anoikis-like floating cell morphology was observed in the SCLE-treated cancer cells. The cells detached by SCLE treatment were retrieved daily and assayed for viability and telomerase activity. Cells retrieved at 4 days showed significantly decreased viability and telomerase activity (p<0.05), as well as apoptosis-like abnormal morphology, when compared to cells retrieved in the previous 3 days. The ratio of apoptosis and cells in the G1 phase was significantly (p<0.05) increased in the A-549, AGS, and MCF-7 cancer cells treated with SCLE for 4 days compared to untreated controls. However, after SCLE treatment, cell adhesion was not increased by application of an inhibitor of the associated protein kinase (ROCK) that mainly contributes to the increase in cell attachment. This suggests that the cellular detachment by SCLE is probably controlled by a Rho-independent mechanism(s). These observations indicate that SCLE readily induces anoikis in cancer cells and could serve as a potent agent for cancer chemotherapy.

Psychology of color is a research field of psychology for studying human's behavior connected with color. Color carries symbolism and image while sharing psychological consensus with human. Each color has a respective image such as hope, passion, love, life, death, and so on. Peculiar stimuli by colors on these images have great influence on human's emotion and psychology. We therefore proposed a method for understanding human's state of emotion based on colors in this paper. In order to understand human's state of emotion, we analyzed color information used to model a room by a user and then described frequencies of each color as percent using fuzzy inference rules by membership values of fuzzy membership functions for colors used for modeling the room. When we applied the proposed color-based emotion analysis method to emotional state based on colors of Alschuler and Hattwick, we could see the proposed method is efficient.

This study looked into the inner experience of foster mothers who adopted children under 3 months old and found out they were disabled while they were rearing with Van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological approach. In-depth interviews were used with six foster mothers who live in Seoul, Gwangju, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeollabuk-do. The study resulted in a hermeneutic writing with titled "Love of Mothers Who Want to Make Their Children's Dreams Come True" with six essential themes as follows: 'being at a loss wrapped in a dense fog,' 'venting off the frustration,' 'gratitude amid painfulness,' 'bold confrontation with prejudices,' 'disabled children's return to the center of their moms' life,' and 'expectation for their future life.' As they are disabled, foster mothers want to rear their children with more care and attention to make their children's dreams come true. Seen above, this could be interpreted as mothers' love to a life. For foster mothers, the disability of their adopted children is not a burden but an expectation for a new world. They help the children live by themselves. It shows that every child can have his own home.
