  • Color qualities investigated on the basis of Munsell code and Korean standard color code for the cocoons from various strain of mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori. 16 of different color qualities were identified from 21 of original silworm strains, and determinated international name with the revision of Korean color name for cocoon. The various cocoon color confirmed on the sphere from 567 to 593 nm wavelength, 78% of those located at the region about 580 nm (575~584) of sensitive "color difference limen". Y gene engaged broad ranges of wavelength (575~593 nm) in the color expression, by contrast with other genes of Pk (593 nm), F (584~593), Grc and relative G group (567~570 nm), on the transmission of carotenoid or flavonoid color substance. YC gene expression by original silk worm strain was also distinguished by those variation of specific yellow than other colors from Grc, GaGb, Gc, and YPkF. Appearance of chrome yellow cocoon was dominant than other yellow in the cross among vivid yellow group. F1 of pin${\times}$green produced the cocoon of yellow such as "additive mixture" as color light, however, most of the hybrid between yellow cocoon showed the color similar to "subtractive mixture" as a mixture of dyestuff. Hybrid cocoons among yellow or green colors were decreased their hue, value, and chroma, than those of parent. Diallel cross among the strain of various green cocoon suggest the existence of Grc, Ga, Gb, Gc genes. Cream colored cocoon of B. mandarina was differed from other yellow cocoon of Bobyx mori B. mori. Y$^A$ with Ymc showed the similar role of Y with C, therefore, segregated yellow cocoon from the B. mori${\times}$B. mandarina (+$^YC/Y^AYmc$). YC expression of $Y^AY$mc genes might be suppressed by deficiency of outer layer sericin on the middle division of silk giand in the B. mandarina.

  • The study is about how the difference in education levels can affect the subjects' use of color and find out the features of the effect. This experimental study focused on the differences in color expression using the outline picture of a painting before and after being exposed to a full-color picture of the original painting. Differences between two conditions with two different stimuli were observed and the cause of the differences was analyzed based on the number of colors and the quantity of colors and composition of the colors used by the subjects. The study precedes an experiment based on how the level of education though experience can affect the use of colors. This study is focused on the various effects of color usage by children and adults who have various degrees of visual experience. In addition, the study analyzes how design majored subject differed in the use of color from non-design majored subject and compares the use of colors by the two groups. The results showed that design majored subject tended to use less coloring patterns after seeing the stimulus of the Monet picture with more colors, and included the colors from the stimuli they were exposed to. The non-design majored subject who viewed the Mondrian painting demonstrated opposite results by using less number of colors than before seeing the stimuli. In comparison to design majored subject, the variations in selected colors and the quantity of color by non-design majored subject were not consistent.

  • In this paper, we propose a color transient improvement (CTI) algorithm based on image fusion to improve the color transient in the television(TV) receiver or in the MPEG decoder. Video image signals are composed of one luminance and two chrominance components, and the chrominance signals have been more band-limited than the luminance signals since the human eyes usually cannot perceive changes in chrominance over small areas. However, nowadays, as the advanced media like high-definition TV(HDTV) is developed, the blurring of color is perceived visually and affects the image quality. The proposed CTI method improves the transient of chrominance signals by exploiting the high-frequency information of the luminance signal. The high-frequency component extracted from the luminance signal is modified by spatially adaptive weights and added to the input chrominance signals. The spatially adaptive weight is estimated to minimize the ${\iota}_2-norm$ of the error between the original and the estimated chrominance signals in a local window. Experimental results with various test images show that the proposed algorithm produces steep and natural color edge transition and the proposed method outperforms conventional algorithms in terms of both visual and numerical criteria.

  • In this paper, we propose the chromatic adaptation models (CAM) for the variations of the luminance levels. A chromatic adaptation model, CAM$\Delta$Y , is proposed according to the change of luminance level under the same illuminants. The proposed model is obtained by the transform the test colors of the high luminance into the corresponding colors of the low luminance. In the proposed model, the optimal coefficients are obtained from the corresponding colors data of the Breneman's experiments. In the experimental results, we confined that the chromaticity errors, $\Delta$u'v', between the predicted colors by the proposed model and the corresponding colors of the Breneman's experiments are 0.004 in u'v' chromaticity coordinates. The prediction performance of the proposed model is excellent because this error is the threshold value that two adjacent color patches can be distinguished. Additionally, we also propose equal-whiteness CCT curves (EWCs) by CAM$\Delta$Y according to the luminance levels of the surround viewing conditions. And the proposed EWCs can be used as the theoretical standard which determines the reference white of the color display devices.

  • Two experiments were conducted to investigate the impact of binocular disparity information on Neon color spreading (NCS). The stimuli was the modification of Ehrenstein figure used by Redies and Spillmann(1981); inner and outer segments were achromatic and middle segments was chromatic. In experiment 1, the effect of binocular disparity was tested in each segment that were divided inner, middle and outer segments. In experiment 2, the impact of added segments that were put in different depth place were tested. The results showed that the segments on same place were, the clearer the NCS was. Consistent with the previous studies, the effect of color segment in front or in behind was not appeared. The case of added segments, regardless of added segments were placed either front or behind, the NCS was reduced. But the effect of added outer segments was more affect then added inner segments. This results were suggested that NCS could be affected by depth information but more affected by stage of before depth processing.

  • This paper proposes a color-matching 3D look-up table that simplifies the complex color-matching procedure between a monitor and a mobile display device, where the image colors are processed in a device-independent color space, such as CIEXYZ or CIELAB, and gamut mapping performed to compensate the gamut difference. The transform from a device-dependent RGB color space to a device-independent color space is implemented by performing display characterization. The mobile LCD characterization error using the S-curve model is larger than the tolerance error since the mobile LCD has the channel-chromaticity-inconstancy and channel-dependence characteristics. In this paper we reduced the characterization error using the electro-optical transfer functions of X, Y, and Z value for R, G, B, C, M, Y, K components. Experimental results demonstrated that 64 ($4{\times}4{\times}4$) was the smallest size of color-matching look-up table that could produce an image with an acceptable reproduction error, based on a comparison of color-matched images resulting from the proposed color-matching look-up table and complex step-by-step color-matching procedures.

  • Colors of 2D animation characters are generally assigned by art directors' subjective color sense. Even same characters should be colored differently according to the mood of animation scenes. In this study, we introduce the model for automatic color transformation of characters by using neural network. It can not only create automatically colors of characters which are good matched with 2D animation scenes but also reproduce art directors' subjective color sense. Specifically, this neural network model is initially made to learn the patterns of color change between basic colors of characters and colors of characters in various scene. Then if you know basic colors of some characters, you can derive colors of characters under other light source environments using the learned neural network. Subjective ratings(which is adopted to verify the proposed model) by color experts on the automatically transformed colors showed that the colors created by the model tended to be evaluated natural.

  • When the same image is displayed in many different devices, the reproduced colors are not same due to the differences in the gamut between devices. Therefore, many gamut mapping method were proposed to solve this problem. In this paper, color discrimination enhancement gamut mapping method using color distribution rearrangement is proposed to reduce the unnecessary distortions by compression mapping and to minimize the decrease of color discrimination by clipping method. The proposed method constructs color distribution, the 3-dimension array of input image's colors. if the maximum of color distribution is within the boundary of printer gamut. the colors are mapped to the same colors. Otherwise, out-of-gamut colors are compressed into the printer gamut with minimum distortion. Consequently, the printer output image was highly consistent with the corresponding monitor image and had an enhanced color discrimination in region where high chroma varied linearly.

  • People with color vision deficiency (CVD) experience difficulties in discriminating some color combinations and color differences due to the abnormal retinal cone systems. While there exist smartphones with a re-coloring function for CVD, monitors do not provide the re-coloring function. In this paper, we propose a new re-coloring algorithm that adjusts the displayed colors for CVD using a color controller embedded in the monitor. The proposed algorithm converts the hue and saturation in HSV color space, according to the type and strength of the color deficiency. The results of the performance evaluation with a certain number of people with CVD show that the proposed system can convert colors imperceptible into perceptible.
